Instead of holding power to account and challenging the myriad lies being told by Trump and Netanyahu, leading media outlets are just happily manufacturing consent for this devastating and illegal war. CBS News, 0:16 now owned by the pro-Israel billionaire David Ellison and run by Barry Weiss, did a softball interview with an Israeli general. 60 Minutes, also part of CBS, referred to Iran's nuclear weapons. No one, not even the Israelis, say Iran has nuclear weapons. CNN can't stop putting Israeli officials on the air or echoing Israeli talking 0:33 points about this being a preemptive war against Iran. Sky News says Israeli soldiers are killed, but hundreds of Lebanese, they just die. The New York Times referred to the illegal bombing of Iran and Lebanon as Israel seizing opportunities to remake the region. That's what they called it. The paper of record also chose to put the U.S. 0:52 killing of more than 170 Iranian schoolgirls on the first day of this war on page 11. Yes, page 11. There are millions of Americans the oppose this war against Iran. What can we do. We can try to build curiosity about the 75-year of US intervention in Iran, and counter the lies by using social media. Our job is to layout facts, make logical arguments, and recommend alternative sources of information from Zateo to Wikipedia. I do this several times a week on Reddit and Nextdoor. Reddit is the most open and it is a good place to build a discussion thread. NextDoor is trickier because of heavy moderation. Up until last October, faceBook was good, but FB began to censor by banning and disabling millions of accounts - which happened to my account. Keep that in mind. Breaking through the lies and misinformation is not easy but it can be fun. By the way - I liked the use of the phrase manufacturing consent. I was used in the title of a book, the first scientific approach to shapping public opinions written by Edward Bernays just over 100 years ago. He wrote several books. One was called simply "Propaganda." A true journalist would do the due diligent to understand the difference between the leader of a cult that is responsible for killing of tens of thousands of innocent people of Iran who doesn't even represent the majority of the population in Iran and true spiritual leader. That’s part of what makes them theocracies. That, and that they are governed by religious law. I don’t recall anyone referring to Iran as anything other than a theocracy, even when the Shah was in power. BTW, Israel is governed by rabbinical law, regardless of a citizen’s faith. Thus, it’s a theocracy as well, though it’s run by a godless government.
