The trip includes more than just the parade performance. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the country, including a visit to Blarney Castle, the Cliffs of Moher, and a city tour of Dublin.
The group will play “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” during their performance in the St. Patrick’s Day parade.
“I’m looking forward to spending a lot of time with the people in the band because they’re just kind of a group of people that I really enjoy hanging out with,” said drum major Amelia Zimmerman. “And also, I just love seeing the world and just going and seeing other people and learning about other cultures.”
The trip carries added significance for the group, as it is band director Joe Finnegan’s final year before he retires.
“I hope that they just bond together even more with their friendships as they’re making lasting memories,” Finnegan said. “They’re going to have great performances and performance venues as well as see the history just unfold in front of their eyes.”
Band Booster parent Brett Danke also noted the occasion. “What an opportunity for Mr. Finnegan, all the work that he’s done for not only this group, but all the kids before this that he’s done,” Danke said.
During their time in Ireland, the D.C. Everest band will attend dance workshops, try traditional food, and visit historical sites.
The group is scheduled to leave from Minneapolis on March 13 and return to Wisconsin on March 21.
