Ethereum acts as an āopen-source app storeā that runs software and allows for transfers of value. The ecosystem is primarily known for apps which operate smart contracts. These programs automatically execute a transaction when certain pre-determined and agreed upon conditions are met. Current uses include payments, banking, trading exchanges, social media, and video games. A small fee is charged to each of these transactions in ethereumās native currency ether which generates revenue across the ecosystem.

## The Investment Case for Bitcoin and Ethereum
In its early years, Bitcoin was largely used by a small group of tech enthusiasts with limited real world applications. Over the years, Bitcoin adoption has grown substantially with more interest and investment from institutional and retail investors. Approximately \$196 billion worth of Bitcoin are now held by ETFs, countries, public and private companies.
Investing in Ethereum is about more than just buying a cryptocurrency; it's about investing in a platform with wide-ranging applications, from DeFi to tokenization and beyond. In our view, the investment case for Ethereum is strong and diverse.
We assessed the ideal weight of BTC and ETH in a 60% equity and 40% bond portfolio, limiting the maximum combined allocation to 6%. This was done using 169 sample portfolios with incremental additions of crypto exposure.

## Bitcoin and Ethereum: Progress to Mainstream Adoption

Bitcoin has since grown to become a formidable asset. Ethereum acts as an āopen-source app storeā that runs software and allows for transfers of value. The ecosystem is primarily known for apps which operate smart contracts. These programs automatically execute a transaction when certain pre-determined and agreed upon conditions are met. Current uses include payments, banking, trading exchanges, social media, and video games. A small fee is charged to each of these transactions in ethereumās native currency ether which generates revenue across the ecosystem.
