Though it’s pricier than non-electric rivals, the Niro EV doesn’t use a drop of gas, and it includes a wealth of premium features. Additional driver-assistance features ### Trims and Pricing Kia keeps things simple for customers, producing the Niro EV in two trims: EX and EX Premium. The base EX starts at around \$39,500, coming well-equipped with tech and safety features for the price. Kia’s included driver-safety tech includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring. The vehicle also has pedestrian detection for extra peace of mind. Drivers will appreciate conveniences like automatic headlights and power-folding mirrors. Meanwhile, the interior comes trimmed in premium synthetic leather, with heated front seats and a 10-way power driver’s seat. Other highlights are remote engine start, a leather steering wheel, keyless entry/ignition, automatic climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. For around \$45,000, the EX Premium adds amenities like parking sensors, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and wireless smartphone charging. ### Engine and Performance While the hybrid Kia Niro makes adequate power while returning great fuel economy, the EV model takes things to another level. Its all-electric powertrain produces 201 hp and 291 lb-ft of torque, providing it with impressive acceleration around town and on the highway. A 64-kWh lithium-ion battery sits beneath the passenger compartment; it allows the Niro to cruise for up to 239 miles. Regenerative braking helps recycle kinetic energy and store it for use with the cabin electronics. ### Interior Kia recently redesigned the Niro’s interior to align with the South Korean automaker’s design direction. The cabin is modern and straightforward, with intuitive controls that are easy to access. Outward visibility is very good.
