I'm coming under sustained pressure from my sister to go on a
cruise
. I suffer from travel sickness and am very nervous about spending lots of money on a
cruise
only to spend it feeling ill. I know you can take things to help but I like to have a drink and I haven't found anything that you can take with alcohol. Can anyone give me a honest view on what to expect? My sister says you don't feel any motion on board but she's bound to say that to make me go! I've been looking at a fly/
cruise
canaries
cruise
with P & O. I was hoping I could hop off and fly home if I felt ill but the first two days are at sea. I would value opinion and advice. Thanks.

The only time you are aware that you have been on a ship is when you get off in port and find you are still swaying. You won't notice being aboard as they use electronic stabilisers to counteract the wave motion at sea. In fact you may find that you have the best sleep of your life due to the gentle motion.
If you do still get motion sickness, you could try NOT drinking alcohol as hard as that may seem and take medication. Although if this is impossible there is always ginger, which has been used for hundreds of years with great effect.
It sounds to me like you may be talking yourself in to it and it is more fear based than motion based. To counteract that, try "Rescue Remedy"". It is really amazing and you can get it at pharmacies, health food stores or Amazon. It comes in all forms including liquid drops or gummies.

If you’re on a fly
cruise
to the Canaries and just cruising from one island to the next then I very much doubt you will even notice you’re at sea. If any movement occurred it would normally be in the Bay of Biscay but I’ve sailed through it with no movement.
You could try wearing wristbands as a just in case scenario which l will save you having to take medication.
I’ve done the Canaries several times and only had movement in the Bay of Biscay on one occasion which didn’t affect any of us. All other times it was as calm as a millpond.
Don’t overthink it. We all do it but shouldn’t. I’m sure you will be fine.

I agree with the others
Get the wrist bands if worried
I take ginger candy & book mid ship cabin on the lower decks
If you should happen to feel the motion of the ocean just go to the middle of the ship in the public room & relax or go lie down in the cabin for a bit
I will not last the whole
cruise
If it does get bad they usually have a pill at reception you may feel better after just 1
Enjoy the
cruise

As someone who owns a boat and belongs to a group of sailors, the remedy I use is one that has been popular with sailors for many years: ginger. I take ginger pills or chew crystallised ginger. There’s no problem with drinking alcohol (although I don’t) and AFAIK no side effects.
Pre boat, I tried otc travel sickness tablets to ward off car sickness but quickly realised whilst they stopped me being sick they didn’t actually stop me feeling sick

As so
Some who loves cruising but is a poor sailor, I have been sea sick a number of times on a
cruise
.
The only
cruise
ships that I can say with any confidence that I did not feel the swells or winds has been The Majestic and the
Royal Princess
.
Midships, on a lower deck is a good place to be during the day if you feel the effects of swells/ weather. Usually I go to an outside deck, “cool
Off” with the wind in my face then go to the atrium Deck 5 ( Princess ship ) and I’m fine .. or go back to my cabin and lie down.
I don’t drink a lot of alcohol but found that steering clear of dairy products helped.
None of the other regularly suggested remedies worked on me at all.
If you’re really sea sick, a visit to the Medical Centre may result in an injection which will help you sleep it off.
So why go on a
cruise
if you - like me - get travel sickness ? Because the ports offer a new adventure and it’s unlikely you’ll be sea sick every day.

Good advice above if we start to get a bit queasy, we just chew on ginger jubes (Buderim ginger jubes) if we can get them or crystallized ginger if we can't. The only time we get the wobbles is when we disembark at our home port, and I put that down to withdrawal symptoms from our
cruise
and then the countdown starts until we get our next fix. đź¤

Sea Sickness
I'm coming under sustained pressure from my sister to go on a [cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises). I suffer from travel sickness and am very nervous about spending lots of money on a [cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises) only to spend it feeling ill. I know you can take things to help but I like to have a drink and I haven't found anything that you can take with alcohol. Can anyone give me a honest view on what to expect? My sister says you don't feel any motion on board but she's bound to say that to make me go! I've been looking at a fly/[cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises) canaries [cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises) with P & O.

If you’re on a fly [cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises) to the Canaries and just cruising from one island to the next then I very much doubt you will even notice you’re at sea.

I will not last the whole [cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises)
If it does get bad they usually have a pill at reception you may feel better after just 1
Enjoy the [cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises)

As someone who owns a boat and belongs to a group of sailors, the remedy I use is one that has been popular with sailors for many years: ginger. I take ginger pills or chew crystallised ginger. There’s no problem with drinking alcohol (although I don’t) and AFAIK no side effects.
Pre boat, I tried otc travel sickness tablets to ward off car sickness but quickly realised whilst they stopped me being sick they didn’t actually stop me feeling sick

As so
Some who loves cruising but is a poor sailor, I have been sea sick a number of times on a [cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises).
The only [cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises) ships that I can say with any confidence that I did not feel the swells or winds has been The Majestic and the [Royal Princess](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises-a_sh.15691765-Royal_Princess-Cruises).
So why go on a [cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises) if you - like me - get travel sickness ? Because the ports offer a new adventure and it’s unlikely you’ll be sea sick every day.

Good advice above if we start to get a bit queasy, we just chew on ginger jubes (Buderim ginger jubes) if we can get them or crystallized ginger if we can't. The only time we get the wobbles is when we disembark at our home port, and I put that down to withdrawal symptoms from our [cruise](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Cruises) and then the countdown starts until we get our next fix. đź¤

FYI: the USA posters mentioning Meclizine ?
Common trade names are Bonine, Bonamine, Antivert, Postafen.
It's no longer available here in Canada - supply chain issue for ingredients, not a health issue.
I heartily endorse crystallised ginger as a sovereign remedy.
