Your adventure at a glance. Daily highlights, included activities, and optional extras to make it unforgettable.
The sights of Santiago de Chile
Welcome to Santiago, Chileâs bustling capital. With its colonial-era architecture, award-winning restaurants, and fascinating museums, itâs the perfect place to start your expedition cruise. Thereâs a lot to see, from the Mercado Central market to the Plaza de Armas and the Presidential Palace. Check out the Sky Costanera, which offers panoramic views of the city from 1,000Â feet up.
We recommend arriving a few days early and joining one of our optional
Pre-Programs
.
Board your expedition cruise in Punta Arenas
Youâll have an early start today, as we depart Santiago and fly to Punta Arenas, Chileâs southernmost port. Your expedition ship awaits. Once on board, get settled in, explore the ship, and meet your Expedition Team.
As well as being your guides, hosts, and local experts, theyâre also your travel companions for the next three weeks. Friendly and welcoming, theyâll answer any questions you may have during your Antarctic adventure.
Through the Strait of Magellan
Â
With our course set for the Falkland Islands, soak up the mesmerising views all around you as you cruise through the Strait of Magellan. You can take in the scenery from the deck, the outdoor hot tub or the panoramic Explorer Lounge & Bar. Â
You can also join your Expedition Team in the onboard Science Center to listen to lectures, participate in Citizen Science projects and more. Whether itâs marine biology, Antarctic survival, oceanography or photography, your Expedition Team offers fascinating insights into the places youâll see on your journey, and youâll feed off their enthusiasm.
Enjoy birding and hiking in these green islands
Â
The Falkland archipelago is filled with seamless horizons and white sands teeming with birdlife. Only the occasional farm dots the landscape. Youâll find grassy hills and wildflowers, in contrast to the vast whiteness of Antarctica to come. Â
You'llâŻalsoâŻenjoy a community walk of Stanley, taking in the Jubilee Villas gardens, Christ Church Cathedral and the Historic Dockyard Museum.âŻÂ
Our landings, hikes and excursions are, as always, guided by the conditions. We hope to visit albatross and penguin colonies, which are often found sharing space with seals, and getting as close as we can without disturbing them.
Cruising the South Atlantic
Â
Sailing from the Falklands, we spend two days cruising towards beautiful South Georgia. You can look forward to seeing an archipelago filled with diverse wildlife. Â
Meet up with the Expedition Team as they prepare you for what lies ahead. Theyâll tell you everything they know about South Georgia, including the areaâs wildlife, polar history, geology, glaciology, and stories of Norwegian whalers. Â
Youâll also learn how to make your visit as safe and low-impact as possible, and you can join our Citizen Science programmes to help collect data for global research projects.
Visit a wildlife watcherâs paradise
Â
South Georgiaâs abundant wildlife has earned it the nickname âSerengeti of the Southern Oceanâ. Its unique position free from sea ice makes the island a breeding site for large colonies of penguins, other seabirds and seals. In fact, itâs an Important Bird Area, home to albatrosses, petrels, shags, skuas and terns. Â
You'll spend four days exploring this remarkable area. Weâll also try to reach Grytviken, the final resting place of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. Weâre always guided by nature, responding to daily conditions to bring you the best possible experience.Â
While our itineraries are always flexible, theyâre even more so during peak breeding seasons when the wildlife is most vulnerable to disturbance. When itâd safe to do so, weâll wildlife watch. When our presence could disturb the animals, weâll choose another place to visit and as always, these decisions are made by your Expedition Team and are based on lifetimes of combined experience in these destinations. Sometimes weâll land, sometimes weâll cruise, itâs all part of the adventure!
Time to relax and reflectÂ
After visiting the Falklands and South Georgia, take some time while we head towards Antarctica to relax and reflect on your journey so far. Antarctica is a symbol of global cooperation, dedicated to peace, science and wildlife conservation. Protected by the Antarctic Treaty, it remains free of military conflict, preserving its pristine environment for future generations. Â
As a hub for scientific research on climate change and ecosystems, it offers unique insights into nature's resilience. Why not join one of our Citizen Science programmes to help collect data for global research projects.Â
Experience Antarctica in all its majesty
Â
Nothing prepares you for your first sight of Antarcticaâs immense, frozen beauty. Icebergs, sculpted by nature, float in the straits. Gentoo, Chinstrap and AdĂŠlie Penguins watch erect from the shores. Countless seabirds wheel overhead. Nature is in charge.Â
Youâll spend four exciting days exploring several possible landing sites, on and around the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands. Wherever we go and whatever we do, each day will offer something different and thrilling.Â
We might sail into a flooded volcanic caldera or land in icy bays, where remnants of whaling paraphernalia lie abandoned. You may also get a chance to go kayaking among icebergs and seals, or snowshoe to a stunning viewpoint.Â
Bird enthusiasts should look skywards for Antarctic seabirds such as skuas, petrels and terns. Through onboard lectures and onshore talks, you'll learn more about this precious habitat and how we can all protect it for the future
Looking for land ahead
Â
As we say goodbye to the frozen continent, MS Fram turns to take you north over the Drake Passage and towards Punta Arenas. Â
This is the perfect time to go through your pictures and relive your experiences in the Falklands, South Georgia, and Antarctica. Enjoy the onboard comforts. Relax in the hot tubs or panoramic sauna or unwind in our Explorer Lounge & Bar. Â
When the Drake Passage is behind us, weâll enter the scenic Beagle Channel, surrounded by mountains plunging straight into the icy water. Watch for Patagonian wildlife as we sail through this wild and remote area.
Onward from Punta Arenas
Your Antarctica and Patagonia expedition cruise comes to an end in Punta Arenas. From here, you'll catch a flight to Santiago de Chile and then your connecting flight home, taking with you a wealth of fantastic memories.Â
If you're not ready to end your adventures just yet, we recommend extending your trip and joining our optional
Post-Program

Three distinct destination all in one: South Georgia, the Falkland Islands and Antarctica - with **four** days in the White Continent.
Witness a wide variety of iconic wildlife species, including nesting penguins, fur seals and whales.
Explore the lush green hills of the Falklands and the alpine landscapes of South Georgia, as well as the iceberg-studded seas of Antarctica.
## An Antarctic expedition
Weâll set sail from Chile to explore the unique world of South Georgia and Antarctica. Every day our route will be guided by nature, and weâll make the best of local conditions. Each sunrise will offer something different and thrilling. In October and November on the Seventh Continent, penguins start courting and nesting. In December and January, the summer brings longer, milder days, and in February and March whales and penguin chicks abound.
## Wild islands of adventure
The Falkland Islands are windswept and beautiful, and theyâre home to a wide variety of wildlife, while South Georgia has colonies of penguins and seals, and is designated an Important Bird Area. Itâs a place of spectacular alpine landscapes, fur seal colonies and ghostly, abandoned whaling stations. The weather sets the agenda on these rugged islands, so in true expedition style weâll adapt to the conditions and have a truly unforgettable adventure.

## Frequently Asked Questions
[View all FAQâs](https://www.travelhx.com/en-us/support/faq/)
How do I complete the Medical Screening Form?
We require all guests (including children) to submit and complete the Medical Form prior to departure to Antarctica.
Complete the form online through the [Vikand Medical portal](https://vikandmedical.com/hx-en/). It includes sections for both you and your doctor to fill out. You can begin the process up to **120 days** before your sailing start date. Group bookings: access opens 90 days before your sailing start date. To start, Vikand will verify your name against our passenger list. If your name isnât found, please contact HX or your local travel agent(if you booked through one) to ensure your name has been added to the booking exactly as it appears on your passport. For Doctorâs section - if your doctor can't sign the form, please consult an alternative or use Vikandâs online doctor service.
To make sure you receive important updates about yourMedical Screening Form, weâll send a verification email to the address you provided. Please check your inbox (and Spam/Junk folders) and click the verification link to continue. Once verified, you can complete the Guest Section of the form. If you donât receive the email, try using an alternative address for future updates.
**Please note:** We only accept the Medical Screening Form available through Vikand portal and has been specially designed for HX sailings to remote destinations.
Why do I need to complete a Medical Screening Form?
At HX Expeditions - we explore some of the world's most remote locations and as such, in many of these locations, sophisticated medical services are few and far between. Medical care at sea is limited, and often emergency sea and air services may also be inaccessible, particularly in the polar regions. It is therefore vital that you make us aware of any current or past health issues, and as such we require a [Medical Screening Form](https://vikandmedical.com/hurtigruten-en-stripe/) to be completed for [Expeditions to Antarctica](https://www.travelhx.com/en-us/destinations/antarctica-cruises/).
The Health, Safety and well-being of you our guests and our on-board crew are our top priority, and we want to ensure that all our guests are fit for travel. On board all our ships, we will have a qualified physician, which have a small, limited medical facility with basic medical supplies and equipment. Still, that makes it more difficult to diagnose and treat even the simplest conditions. This often leads to missed diagnoses, worsening conditions, a greater burden of chronic disease, and in some cases, unnecessary costly medical disembarkations.
What is the Medical Screening Form Promise?
Our promise to you is that if your Medical Screening Form is declined for medical reasons as determined by Vikand Solutions, we will refund you of all bookings made by HX up until the date of declinature. This includes all applicable flights, hotels and ground transportation. Rebookings can be made at no additional cost, subject to applicable booking conditions.

Your adventure at a glance. Daily highlights, included activities, and optional extras to make it unforgettable.
**The sights of Santiago de Chile**
Welcome to Santiago, Chileâs bustling capital. With its colonial-era architecture, award-winning restaurants, and fascinating museums, itâs the perfect place to start your expedition cruise. Thereâs a lot to see, from the Mercado Central market to the Plaza de Armas and the Presidential Palace. Check out the Sky Costanera, which offers panoramic views of the city from 1,000 feet up.
We recommend arriving a few days early and joining one of our optional [Pre-Programs](https://www.travelhx.com/en-us/enhance-your-cruise/catalog/?contentType=program&voyageIds=74399).

**Board your expedition cruise in Punta Arenas**
Youâll have an early start today, as we depart Santiago and fly to Punta Arenas, Chileâs southernmost port. Your expedition ship awaits. Once on board, get settled in, explore the ship, and meet your Expedition Team.
As well as being your guides, hosts, and local experts, theyâre also your travel companions for the next three weeks. Friendly and welcoming, theyâll answer any questions you may have during your Antarctic adventure.

**Through the Strait of Magellan**
With our course set for the Falkland Islands, soak up the mesmerising views all around you as you cruise through the Strait of Magellan. You can take in the scenery from the deck, the outdoor hot tub or the panoramic Explorer Lounge & Bar.

**Enjoy birding and hiking in these green islands**
The Falkland archipelago is filled with seamless horizons and white sands teeming with birdlife. Only the occasional farm dots the landscape. Youâll find grassy hills and wildflowers, in contrast to the vast whiteness of Antarctica to come.
You'll also enjoy a community walk of Stanley, taking in the Jubilee Villas gardens, Christ Church Cathedral and the Historic Dockyard Museum.
Our landings, hikes and excursions are, as always, guided by the conditions. We hope to visit albatross and penguin colonies, which are often found sharing space with seals, and getting as close as we can without disturbing them.

**Cruising the South Atlantic**
Sailing from the Falklands, we spend two days cruising towards beautiful South Georgia. You can look forward to seeing an archipelago filled with diverse wildlife.
Meet up with the Expedition Team as they prepare you for what lies ahead. Theyâll tell you everything they know about South Georgia, including the areaâs wildlife, polar history, geology, glaciology, and stories of Norwegian whalers.
Youâll also learn how to make your visit as safe and low-impact as possible, and you can join our Citizen Science programmes to help collect data for global research projects.

**Visit a wildlife watcherâs paradise**
South Georgiaâs abundant wildlife has earned it the nickname âSerengeti of the Southern Oceanâ. Its unique position free from sea ice makes the island a breeding site for large colonies of penguins, other seabirds and seals. In fact, itâs an Important Bird Area, home to albatrosses, petrels, shags, skuas and terns.
You'll spend four days exploring this remarkable area. Weâll also try to reach Grytviken, the final resting place of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. Weâre always guided by nature, responding to daily conditions to bring you the best possible experience.
Sometimes weâll land, sometimes weâll cruise, itâs all part of the adventure\!

**Time to relax and reflect** After visiting the Falklands and South Georgia, take some time while we head towards Antarctica to relax and reflect on your journey so far. Antarctica is a symbol of global cooperation, dedicated to peace, science and wildlife conservation. Protected by the Antarctic Treaty, it remains free of military conflict, preserving its pristine environment for future generations. As a hub for scientific research on climate change and ecosystems, it offers unique insights into nature's resilience. Why not join one of our Citizen Science programmes to help collect data for global research projects.

**Experience Antarctica in all its majesty**
Nothing prepares you for your first sight of Antarcticaâs immense, frozen beauty. Icebergs, sculpted by nature, float in the straits. Gentoo, Chinstrap and AdĂŠlie Penguins watch erect from the shores. Countless seabirds wheel overhead. Nature is in charge.
Youâll spend four exciting days exploring several possible landing sites, on and around the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands. Wherever we go and whatever we do, each day will offer something different and thrilling.
We might sail into a flooded volcanic caldera or land in icy bays, where remnants of whaling paraphernalia lie abandoned. You may also get a chance to go kayaking among icebergs and seals, or snowshoe to a stunning viewpoint.
Bird enthusiasts should look skywards for Antarctic seabirds such as skuas, petrels and terns. Through onboard lectures and onshore talks, you'll learn more about this precious habitat and how we can all protect it for the future

**Looking for land ahead**
As we say goodbye to the frozen continent, MS Fram turns to take you north over the Drake Passage and towards Punta Arenas.
This is the perfect time to go through your pictures and relive your experiences in the Falklands, South Georgia, and Antarctica. Enjoy the onboard comforts. Relax in the hot tubs or panoramic sauna or unwind in our Explorer Lounge & Bar.
When the Drake Passage is behind us, weâll enter the scenic Beagle Channel, surrounded by mountains plunging straight into the icy water. Watch for Patagonian wildlife as we sail through this wild and remote area.

**Onward from Punta Arenas**
Your Antarctica and Patagonia expedition cruise comes to an end in Punta Arenas. From here, you'll catch a flight to Santiago de Chile and then your connecting flight home, taking with you a wealth of fantastic memories.
If you're not ready to end your adventures just yet, we recommend extending your trip and joining our optional [Post-Program](https://www.travelhx.com/en/enhance-your-cruise/catalog/?contentType=program&voyageIds=118859).
