The Division strives to protect consumers and legitimate business enterprises from those who engage in illegal activity as provided under the “Tennessee Consumer Protection Act of 1977,” T.C.A. §§ 47-18-101 et seq. The Division also encourages the development of fair consumer practices and promotes statewide consumer education. As of September 30, 2019, the Division will be housed within the Consumer Protection Division of the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office. The Attorney General has authority to enforce the Consumer Protection Act and other consumer protection related laws, both state and federal. Please note that while the Division transitions to a new home, you may continue to see references on this website and materials from the Division that reference the Department of Commerce and Insurance.
