Panasonic Lumix offers a variety of cameras, each with distinct specs to meet the needs of its users. The S series offers full frame options for professionals, while the GH series is perfect for hybrid photographers. They also offer spectacular compact cameras, with the TZ series aimed at travel photographers who want more reach. It appears that Panasonic is keen to launch a model, the successor to the popular TZ-200. And here is a glimpse of its first look.
According to Photo Rumors
, the TZ-300 will allegedly feature a 20MP 1-inch sensor and a Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens offering a 24-360mm f3.3-6.4 equivalent zoom. It is also said to have a 3cm macro mode. The camera’s video capabilities offers image stabilization, 4K support, and a flip-out screen, making it ideal for vlogging. Another inclusion includes USB-C charging, which was missing from the previous camera.

The TZ-200 was launched in 2018, which means it’s been 8 years since Panasonic has been keen to introduce another luxury compact camera. The lineup is now finally getting an update, which will be ideal for everyday shooting.
Since the announcement, there has been
quite a buzz on Reddit.
The most common complaint has been the lack of an EVF, which really takes away from the experience of using a camera and therefore the mindset when making images. There are also people who are disappointed with the exclusion, as it seems like there is no difference other than the USB-C. There is also a group of people who do not see the appeal of a camera of this nature.
As one commentator pointed out:
Still not understanding the resurgence of cameras like these. Unless you want to use 110% of a large pocket, you’re probably using at least a small bag. At that point, I can easily fit g85 with a compact + pancake lens in a little tactical man purse/sling with little room taken, so I’d much rather have that.
On the video side, improvements are geared toward vloggers, potentially including better stabilization, 4K support, and a flip-out screen. Practically, USB-C charging has also been added — a long overdue update that the TZ200 frustratingly lacked.
At the same time, people are keen on getting a successor to
the LX100
series, which is touted to be one of the best offerings from Lumix. In fact, it is a camera that people still opt for in the second-hand market.
As we said in our review of the original camera:
The LX100 was a joy to use with superb image quality and manual controls that makes it a strong contender in the premium compact space. It’s retro aesthetic makes it a boon for street photographers because of how inconspicuous it, and its fast-AF guarantees you’ll get most of your shots.Â
The closest thing that we have to an LX100 successor is the
Leica D-LUX 8
.
The TZ-300 is reportedly going to launch on March 24. So, it remains to be seen what kind of specification has been introduced. Either way, it is clear that compact cameras are making a return, and it seems the trend won’t die down soon. |
