The story is about how I found my lost love with Honda Civic, once again. 3 years ago I had my 2010 fully customized Civic MT sold. And below is the story of why and how I got a used 2019 Honda Civic VX 1.8L CVT. My Old Civic at home, Another View. Journey with Altroz In January 2022, I decided to replace my trusted, fun, and frugal Swift ZDI with a safer, highway-capable intercity car. With a budget of ₹10 lakhs in hand, the Tata Altroz 1.2L iTurbo ticked all the boxes: 5-star safety, striking design and looks, fun-to-drive nature, and decent fuel efficiency. After a one-and-a-half-month wait, I took delivery of my Harbour Blue Altroz on 11th March 2022. The delivery was smooth, and the service executive handled the process very efficiently. Altroz at home Here’s what I loved: Black-themed interiors A steering wheel that feels great to hold Excellent steering response and suspension tuned for spirited driving and cornering Great looks, enhanced by the beautiful Harbour Blue color Overall stability of the car at triple-digit speeds During my 3.5 years of ownership, I faced quite a few issues. The major problems faced are: Jun 2022: Faced an engine indicator warning while using Sport mode; the vehicle went into limp mode Mid 2023: Clutch assembly replaced due to persistent engine noise, even while idling Oct 2023: Gearbox replaced under warranty Jan 2025: Steering rack assembly replaced under warranty (paid ₹6,401 for consumables) Apr 2025: Cylinder head assembly failed – replaced under warranty (paid ₹3,934 for consumables) Fortunately, I had opted for the 5-year extended warranty, which covered the major replacements: the gearbox, steering rack, and cylinder head assembly. However, despite these repairs and the new cylinder head, the fuel economy dropped to 9 KMPL in moderate suburban traffic—down from the earlier 12–13 KMPL and there was very high petrol smell when kept at idling. That was the last straw and I couldn’t take any more. Parting shot with Altroz Selection of Cars I had a few key criteria in mind for my next car: High reliability Fun to drive Should be a sedan Registered in Coimbatore / Tirupur / Erode Budget around ₹15 lakhs After researching and narrowing down my options, I zeroed in on three cars: 1. Used Honda Civic (2019/2020 model – preferably ZX or VX variant) Reasons: Having owned a 2010 Civic Manual for nearly 5 years, it wasn’t just me—my whole family loves Civic. • Iconic fluidic design • Naturally aspirated 1.8L i-VTEC engine • Great ride and handling dynamics (as widely reviewed and appreciated) It was naturally the top contender in my list. 2. Used Volkswagen Virtus GT 1.5 TSI Manual Reasons: • 150 bhp of turbocharged power • Slick 6-speed manual gearbox • Clean, classic front styling 3. Used Honda City V/VX MT i-VTEC Reasons: • 1.5L naturally aspirated i-VTEC engine • Honda’s bulletproof reliability • The charm of owning one of the last old-school sedans Cars I test drove VW Virtus GT 1.5 TSI DSG Had a chance to test drive a colleague’s car. Things I liked: • Immediate surge of power and strong acceleration even with a light tap on the accelerator • Excellent fit and finish, both inside and out Things not to my liking(purely personal opinion): • Fixed red theme in the instrument cluster • Rear-end design didn’t appeal to me • Very high ground clearance took away the low-slung sedan look I prefer • Rear seat under-thigh support could have been better • Concerned about potential DSG gearbox issues after 4–5 years of use Honda City Hybrid Requested a test drive from Sundaram Honda, Coimbatore. The sales executive was quick to respond and arranged test drives for both the City Hybrid and the ZX MT on the same day. The City Hybrid arrived first. Things I liked: • Felt more sure-footed on the road, likely due to the battery pack adding weight and balance • Slightly heavier steering, which inspired confidence around corners • Seamless transition between ICE and battery power, making for a smooth drive • Impressive fuel efficiency of ~24 to 25 KMPL within city limits ( as read in reviews) Things not to my liking(purely personal opinion): • ICE engine noise was audible even during low-speed drives • On the highway at 100–110 kmph, I could achieve only ~20 kmpl (compared to 16–17 kmpl in the manual city as per reviews) • Very few used vehicle available; new ones cost nearly ₹25 lakhs on-road Honda City ZX MT The ZX MT followed the Hybrid for the test drive. Things I liked: • Loved the sound of the naturally aspirated engine when revved up to ~6500 RPM through each gear • ADAS features are available from the V variant onwards • Driving position, seating comfort, and layout similar to the Hybrid Things not to my liking(purely personal opinion): • Another 20–30 bhp of power would have made it more exciting • Steering feedback didn’t inspire confidence at high speeds or around corners • No 5-star safety rating (not yet tested) • On-road price touching ₹18.7 lakhs VW Virtus GT 1.5 TSI Manual Same driving impressions as the DSG version, except: Things I liked: • Very slick manual gearbox added to the fun part of driving Things not to my liking(purely personal opinion): • Long clutch travel was tiring at times • Very hard to find a used manual variant in the market Honda City V MT Since the City V MT checked all the boxes, I tracked down an OLX ad and on a fine day, visited the owner around 9 PM for a test drive. It was a short drive, but the car appeared to be in great shape, apart from a slightly hard clutch (as it was often driven to Ooty). The 2023 model car had clocked just 25,000 km, had new tyres, and around 11.5 months of insurance left. I quoted ₹12 lakhs and asked the owner to get back to me if he was fine with it. The only concern was that the car was under loan, so I decided to think it over and wait for a response. Honda Civic – 2019 Model As I regularly browsed OLX 5 to 8 times a day, one fine Saturday morning I found a 2019 Honda Civic VX in Tirupur. It had done around 87,000 km and was listed by a dealer who was open to a trade-in for my Altroz. I drove down from Coimbatore to Tirupur to check the car. When I arrived, it was being polished at a nearby accessories shop. First impressions were great — the body lines were sharp, the white paint was in pristine condition, and the interiors looked very well maintained (likely parked under shade most of its life). Took the car for a 25 km test drive up to Avinashi. Immediate likes: • Steering weight felt extremely confidence-inspiring • Firm suspension allowed the car to glide over patchy roads • Driving a car with paddle shifters — made spirited driving much more enjoyable ( though felt the rubber band effect of CVT when accelerating hard) • Ample interior space • As a fan of long sedans, I loved the overall design • Car had a new set of Yokohama BlueEarth tyres and 10 months of insurance remaining • Very much liked the solid feel of the car At the end of the test drive, I felt this was the one. I took a copy of the RC for a service history check and asked the dealer to evaluate the Altroz and drove back to home. The next morning, I called a Honda service executive I’ve stayed in touch with even after selling my 2010 Civic. He confirmed that the service history was clean and the 90,000 km oil service had already been done. With all the prerequisites met, I informed the dealer I’d visit his showroom by 11:30 AM that day. After some tough negotiation to reach a win-win deal, I closed the purchase, handed over Altroz keys and took the delivery of the 2019 Honda Civic VX. Some pictures of the car while taken to nearby temple(Alagumalai), After the Pooja, Ready to prance downhill. Story to be continued.

I explored this, Brigade Honda (Bangalore) quoted 26K for 6th year warranty. I haven't made a decision yet, given Honda's long-term reliability, but at the sametime- concerned about discontinued car + expensive parts. | | | | | | Originally Posted by **AsphaltNomad** [![View Post](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/images/bhpsilverrounded/buttons/viewpost.png)](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-32.html#post6005058) Congratulations @anbusatish on acquiring the new Civic. The Primacy 4STs helped a lot with tire noise. Madhu's helped me get a good set of tires. I used Madhu's last time and I do the wheel alignment/balancing always from there. The tires are due for change soon, so wondering if there are any quieter tires. Considering Continental SC5. Is Primacy better at keeping noise away than Pilot Sport ? I don't need that extra sharp handling as I don't drive that hard and mine is a diesel cruiser. | | | ![andafunda is offline](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/images/bhpsilverrounded/statusicon/user_offline.gif) | [![](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/images/bhpsilverrounded/buttons/collapse_tcat.gif)]()(1) Thanks | | | | |---|---| | The following BHPian Thanks andafunda for this useful post: | sgm | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | [![Reply](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/images/bhpsilverrounded/buttons/reply.gif)](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=6025762) | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Page 32 of 35 | [**«** First](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review.html "First Page - Results 1 to 15 of 512") | [\<](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-31.html "Prev Page - Results 451 to 465 of 512") | [22](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-22.html "Show results 316 to 330 of 512") | [23](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-23.html "Show results 331 to 345 of 512") | [24](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-24.html "Show results 346 to 360 of 512") | [25](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-25.html "Show results 361 to 375 of 512") | [26](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-26.html "Show results 376 to 390 of 512") | [27](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-27.html "Show results 391 to 405 of 512") | [28](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-28.html "Show results 406 to 420 of 512") | [29](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-29.html "Show results 421 to 435 of 512") | [30](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-30.html "Show results 436 to 450 of 512") | [31](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-31.html "Show results 451 to 465 of 512") | **32** | [33](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-33.html "Show results 481 to 495 of 512") | [34](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-34.html "Show results 496 to 510 of 512") | [35](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-35.html "Show results 511 to 512 of 512") | [\>](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/211179-honda-civic-official-review-33.html "Next Page - Results 481 to 495 of 512") | Most Viewed [Show More \>](https://www.team-bhp.com/hot-threads) | | | |---|---| | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | ![](https://sb.scorecardresearch.com/p?c1=2&c2=24416377&cv=2.0&cj=1) ×

The story is about how I found my lost love with Honda Civic, once again. 3 years ago I had my 2010 fully customized Civic MT sold. And below is the story of why and how I got a used 2019 Honda Civic VX 1.8L CVT. My Old Civic at home, [![Honda Civic : Official Review-oldcivicfront.jpg](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/official-new-car-reviews/2781533d1753458657t-honda-civic-official-review-oldcivicfront.jpg)](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/official-new-car-reviews/2781533d1753458657-honda-civic-official-review-oldcivicfront.jpg) Another View. [![Honda Civic : Official Review-oldcivicback.jpg](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/official-new-car-reviews/2781532d1753458657t-honda-civic-official-review-oldcivicback.jpg)](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/official-new-car-reviews/2781532d1753458657-honda-civic-official-review-oldcivicback.jpg) ### Journey with Altroz In January 2022, I decided to replace my trusted, fun, and frugal Swift ZDI with a safer, highway-capable intercity car. Altroz at home [![Honda Civic : Official Review-altrozathome.jpg](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/official-new-car-reviews/2781528d1753458657t-honda-civic-official-review-altrozathome.jpg)](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/official-new-car-reviews/2781528d1753458657-honda-civic-official-review-altrozathome.jpg) Here’s what I loved: - Black-themed interiors - A steering wheel that feels great to hold - Excellent steering response and suspension tuned for spirited driving and cornering - Great looks, enhanced by the beautiful Harbour Blue color - Overall stability of the car at triple-digit speeds During my 3.5 years of ownership, I faced quite a few issues. The major problems faced are: - Jun 2022: Faced an engine indicator warning while using Sport mode; the vehicle went into limp mode - Mid 2023: Clutch assembly replaced due to persistent engine noise, even while idling - Oct 2023: Gearbox replaced under warranty - Jan 2025: Steering rack assembly replaced under warranty (paid ₹6,401 for consumables) - Apr 2025: Cylinder head assembly failed – replaced under warranty (paid ₹3,934 for consumables) Fortunately, I had opted for the 5-year extended warranty, which covered the major replacements: the gearbox, steering rack, and cylinder head assembly. However, despite these repairs and the new cylinder head, the fuel economy dropped to 9 KMPL in moderate suburban traffic—down from the earlier 12–13 KMPL and there was very high petrol smell when kept at idling. That was the last straw and I couldn’t take any more. Parting shot with Altroz [![Honda Civic : Official Review-altrozparting.jpg](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/official-new-car-reviews/2781529d1753458657t-honda-civic-official-review-altrozparting.jpg)](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/official-new-car-reviews/2781529d1753458657-honda-civic-official-review-altrozparting.jpg) **Selection of Cars** I had a few key criteria in mind for my next car: - High reliability - Fun to drive - Should be a sedan - Registered in Coimbatore / Tirupur / Erode - Budget around ₹15 lakhs After researching and narrowing down my options, I zeroed in on three cars: 1\. 2\. Used Volkswagen Virtus GT 1.5 TSI Manual Reasons: • 150 bhp of turbocharged power • Slick 6-speed manual gearbox • Clean, classic front styling 3\. Used Honda City V/VX MT i-VTEC Reasons: • 1.5L naturally aspirated i-VTEC engine • Honda’s bulletproof reliability • The charm of owning one of the last old-school sedans ### Cars I test drove **VW Virtus GT 1.5 TSI DSG** Had a chance to test drive a colleague’s car. Things I liked: • Immediate surge of power and strong acceleration even with a light tap on the accelerator • Excellent fit and finish, both inside and out Things not to my liking(purely personal opinion): • Fixed red theme in the instrument cluster • Rear-end design didn’t appeal to me • Very high ground clearance took away the low-slung sedan look I prefer • Rear seat under-thigh support could have been better • Concerned about potential DSG gearbox issues after 4–5 years of use **Honda City Hybrid** Requested a test drive from Sundaram Honda, Coimbatore. The sales executive was quick to respond and arranged test drives for both the City Hybrid and the ZX MT on the same day. The City Hybrid arrived first. Things I liked: • Felt more sure-footed on the road, likely due to the battery pack adding weight and balance • Slightly heavier steering, which inspired confidence around corners • Seamless transition between ICE and battery power, making for a smooth drive • Impressive fuel efficiency of ~24 to 25 KMPL within city limits ( as read in reviews) Things not to my liking(purely personal opinion): • ICE engine noise was audible even during low-speed drives • On the highway at 100–110 kmph, I could achieve only ~20 kmpl (compared to 16–17 kmpl in the manual city as per reviews) • Very few used vehicle available; new ones cost nearly ₹25 lakhs on-road **Honda City ZX MT** The ZX MT followed the Hybrid for the test drive. Things I liked: • Loved the sound of the naturally aspirated engine when revved up to ~6500 RPM through each gear • ADAS features are available from the V variant onwards • Driving position, seating comfort, and layout similar to the Hybrid Things not to my liking(purely personal opinion): • Another 20–30 bhp of power would have made it more exciting • Steering feedback didn’t inspire confidence at high speeds or around corners • No 5-star safety rating (not yet tested) • On-road price touching ₹18.7 lakhs **VW Virtus GT 1.5 TSI Manual** Same driving impressions as the DSG version, except: Things I liked: • Very slick manual gearbox added to the fun part of driving Things not to my liking(purely personal opinion): • Long clutch travel was tiring at times • Very hard to find a used manual variant in the market **Honda City V MT** Since the City V MT checked all the boxes, I tracked down an OLX ad and on a fine day, visited the owner around 9 PM for a test drive. **Honda Civic – 2019 Model** As I regularly browsed OLX 5 to 8 times a day, one fine Saturday morning I found a 2019 Honda Civic VX in Tirupur.
