Learn from my mistakes about outdoor clothes in Iceland so you will stay dry and warm
I have learned from the mistakes I have made when dressing for the Icelandic outdoors, so you don’t have to
And what do I know about staying warm in Icelandic weather? I have
hiked all over Iceland in different seasons
, been on glaciers, and I cycle daily to work, some 13 kilometers (8 miles) every day of the year. I have seen it all: Horizontal rain, hail or sleet, howling icy winds, snowstorms, icy fog, and slippery ice. And that is just in Reykjavik on my way to work on my bike in winter!
Fact: When your butt is frozen you won’t enjoy your vacation
I have frozen my butt in the highlands in awful weather and learned from many mistakes. My biggest mistake was in
2005 when I hiked the Fimmvörðuháls trail in the highlands in the high summer in an old-fashioned tracksuit
. When the weather turned to horizontal sleet, zero visibility, and the temperature dropped to four degrees Celsius (39 Fahrenheit), I realized I was in for a rough, wet, cold ride. This experience, and many others, is why I have ample specialized clothing for the variety of weather I will encounter daily. You probably don’t need it in your everyday life. Therefore, the benefits of renting your clothes for your Iceland trip are many:
Rent outdoor clothes for your Iceland trip to get the correct type of outdoor clothes for Icelandic weather
You can be sure that you get the right piece of clothing for Iceland that is breathable and repels water. For example, Iceland Clothing won’t give you jeans or anything containing cotton. Cotton is terrible for Icelandic conditions since it soaks up wetness and cold.
Iceland requires warm clothes.
Quality of the outdoor clothing items is ensured
The quality of the items is assured, and you will look good wearing them. Looking good is, of course, essential on your dream vacation in Iceland!
Camping gear on demand
If you are thinking about camping in Iceland, there is no longer any need to bring all the gear in bulky luggage. Simply
rent all the camping gear that you might need with Iceland Cover
.
Save money by renting outdoor clothes for you Iceland trip
You don’t have to buy a warm coat or pants that you will only need for Iceland. You just rent and pass the clothes on to the next person that needs them.
Get more tips on saving money in Iceland
.
It is convenient
You get the clothing delivered to you, saving a lot of hassle. Returning them is also easy. And you don’t need to go shopping or pack bulky clothing for your flight to and from Iceland.
Renting clothes is environmentally friendly
Imagine how bad it is for the environment to buy a coat or pants just to use for a few days, and then it ends up in a cupboard for a long time.
As I said before, I am very aware of how tricky dressing is here in Iceland, and when I came across
Iceland Cover,
, I knew I wanted them as partners. I contacted them, and DavĂð Ă–rn Ingimarsson, who owns
Iceland Cover,
with Sveinbjörn Traustason, was quick to answer and willing to work with me to reduce the cost my readers staying warm and dry in Iceland. Thank you for that, DavĂð and Sveinbjörn! I used the opportunity and asked DavĂð a few questions about his experience about dressing and traveling in Iceland.
DavĂð Ă–rn Ingimarsson wearing a weary sensible outfit for Iceland.
What items are the most popular outdoor clothes to rent?
The two most popular items are definitely the parka and hiking boots. If you could only pick two things to protect you from the weather in Iceland, it’s a parka and good hiking boots.
What are the biggest mistakes people make when packing for their Iceland trip?
People tend to either overestimate the weather in Iceland or underestimate it.
They might show up with wayyy too much stuff, enough to fill 2 full check-in bags! Or, arrive with nothing but a bomber jacket, sneakers, and a smile!
She is smiling because she is warm in Iceland.
What are the fundamentals of staying warm and dry in Iceland?
Good boots, waterproof pants, and a waterproof jacket. Waterproof clothes are the name of the game here in Iceland.
What are your favorite places or activities here in Iceland?
A glacier hike is definitely a must-do. As well as kayaking in the glacier lagoon
What advice would you give those visiting Iceland for the first time?
Make sure to stop and smell the roses. Leave some time to breathe and take your time. |

I have frozen my butt in the highlands in awful weather and learned from many mistakes. My biggest mistake was in [2005 when I hiked the Fimmvörðuháls trail in the highlands in the high summer in an old-fashioned tracksuit](https://www.stuckiniceland.com/hiking-in-iceland-weather-is-sit1/).
## Rent outdoor clothes for your Iceland trip to get the correct type of outdoor clothes for Icelandic weather

## Quality of the outdoor clothing items is ensured
The quality of the items is assured, and you will look good wearing them. Looking good is, of course, essential on your dream vacation in Iceland\!
## Camping gear on demand
If you are thinking about camping in Iceland, there is no longer any need to bring all the gear in bulky luggage. Simply [rent all the camping gear that you might need with Iceland Cover](https://icelandcover.com/camping-equipment-iceland/).
## Save money by renting outdoor clothes for you Iceland trip
You don’t have to buy a warm coat or pants that you will only need for Iceland. You just rent and pass the clothes on to the next person that needs them. [Get more tips on saving money in Iceland](https://www.stuckiniceland.com/iceland-on-a-budget/).
## It is convenient
You get the clothing delivered to you, saving a lot of hassle. Returning them is also easy. And you don’t need to go shopping or pack bulky clothing for your flight to and from Iceland.
## Renting clothes is environmentally friendly
Imagine how bad it is for the environment to buy a coat or pants just to use for a few days, and then it ends up in a cupboard for a long time.

Thank you for that, DavĂð and Sveinbjörn! I used the opportunity and asked DavĂð a few questions about his experience about dressing and traveling in Iceland.
