The parade is designed as a
pedestrian parade, with most participating groups walking the route
. While vehicles are limited to dignitaries and a small number of long-standing ceremonial exceptions, groups still bring plenty of Irish flair. From banners and costumes to music, decorated wagons, and creative displays, walking units help make the streets of downtown St. Paul come alive.
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is traditionally held on March 17th unless it falls on a Holy Day or a Sunday. Our association has been sponsoring the parade since 1967. We love celebrating this long-standing tradition with everyone in the Twin Cities. And we hope to continue doing so for generations to come! |

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade celebrates St. Paul’s Irish heritage and the many Irish clans that still reside in the area today. Irish pride and spirit run deep in this town, and it shows each year – lining the streets of downtown St. Paul with Irish and non-Irish alike.

**What is the parade route?** The parade will **begin at Mears Park**, run along 5th St, and **conclude at Rice Park**.
**Where is the best place to park?**
We recommend parking in lots & ramps along Kellogg and north of 6th St E. The staging area usually closes each year at 10 am. Then, 5th St E and intersecting roads between 6th St E & 4th St E close at 11 am.
