"We should make banana bread with those," my husband and I would both wistfully say, knowing that it would never come to fruition. Those sad, brown bananas were all headed for the same fate: A trip to the blender for smoothies. For some reason, preparing a batch of banana bread with our freezer stash of fruit seemed like an insurmountable task. Luckily, hopping aboard a meal train for our friends with a newborn baby would change that. Breakfast is my favorite thing to bring new parents for several reasons. Sometimes, creators will purposefully place a shocking item in the frame to stir up engagement. Other times, it’s accidental, like [the comical amount of butter](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DP64fXdAIdz/) in Senior Lifestyle Editor Ivy Odom’s fridge (she is a recipe developer, y’all). "We should make banana bread with those," my husband and I would both wistfully say, knowing that it would never come to fruition. Those sad, brown bananas were all headed for the same fate: A trip to the blender for smoothies. For some reason, preparing a batch of banana bread with our freezer stash of fruit seemed like an insurmountable task. Luckily, hopping aboard a meal train for our friends with a newborn baby would change that. Breakfast is my [favorite thing to bring new parents](https://www.southernliving.com/muffins-are-best-gift-for-new-parents-11682053) for several reasons. It’s often forgotten about in a sea of poppy seed chicken and lasagna, but exhausted moms and dads need something hearty in the morning, too. Plus, they can eat a breakfast casserole at dinnertime. My ideal drop-off meal for this scenario is a savory, filling main like our [Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole](https://www.southernliving.com/recipes/tater-tot-breakfast-bake-recipe), a big, fresh fruit salad they can pick on anytime, and a little something sweet they can enjoy at breakfast or dessert after other meals. Normally, I would simply buy a package of muffins to fill that void, but my husband and I decided that this meal train was our chance: We would finally bake homemade banana bread with our lonely freezer bananas. I went to Southern Living’s website to find the simplest recipe that would be a cinch to make and didn’t require a trip to the store, and there it was: [Our Best-Ever Banana Bread](https://www.southernliving.com/banana-bread-6540840). After making one loaf for our friends, my husband was so impressed with how easy the recipe was that he immediately whipped up another for us to dig into. ## What You Need For Our Best-Ever Banana Bread Credit: Caitlin Bensel; Food Stylist: Torie Cox One of the best aspects of this recipe is that it only calls for seven ingredients, and they are all probably already in your kitchen right now: butter, sugar, eggs, flour, baking soda, salt, and bananas. That’s it. Of course, you can get fancy with add-ins like chocolate chips, blueberries, or chopped nuts, if you’re feeling it. My husband opted for a dash of cinnamon and a splash of vanilla extract in his second loaf for added flavor, and we’ll definitely include those additions next time. ## How To Make Our Best-Ever Banana Bread Credit: Caitlin Bensel; Food Stylist: Torie Cox The most effort you need to put into this recipe is greasing and flouring your loaf pan. Once that’s done, it’s just mixing, pouring, and baking. Simply cream the butter and sugar together, add the eggs, dry ingredients, and bananas, and pour the batter in the pan.
