Enjoy this classic comfort food with this creamy and flavorful ground beef stroganoff recipe. This dish has tender ground beef, onions, mushrooms, and sour cream. It will satisfy your taste buds and leave you feeling full and satisfied. This quick and easy comfort food meal can be prepared in less than thirty minutes, making it doable for busy weeknights. For a complete meal suitable for company, I love to serve this dish with garlic knots and green bean bacon bundles . My family loves this quick and easy hamburger stroganoff made without cream of mushroom soup. If I cook my egg noodles while I prepare the rest of the dish, I can have this easy ground beef stroganoff on the table in less than 30 minutes. As a bonus, it is made without any canned soups. Have you tried any of my other quick and easy recipes? One Skillet Pepper Steak ,  Skillet Sausage and Peppers ,  Chicken Enchiladas , and this recipe are just a few of our favorites and perfect for hectic weeknights. Ingredient Notes and Substitutions See the complete list of ingredients below on the recipe card. Ground beef : use ground beef with a bit of fat. Fat gives the dish flavor. You can also substitute ground turkey, pork, or chicken. Butter : salted or unsalted. If using salted butter, cut down on any added salt. Mushrooms : Both white button mushrooms and cremini mushrooms work well in this recipe. Heck, you can use some of each for more flavor. Seasonings : dried thyme, fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper. Dill and mustard are other seasonings to try in moderation. Beef Broth : preferably low-sodium Sour cream : full-fat works best How to Make Ground Beef Stroganoff Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Halfway through the browning process, add the butter, onion, and mushrooms. Continue cooking until the beef cooks through and the mushrooms are brown. Reduce the heat to low and add garlic, thyme and parsley. Cook for one minute while stirring. Sprinkle the beef mixture with flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring to combine. Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard, stirring to combine. Simmer over low heat for about ten minutes. Then, stir in the sour cream. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Serving Suggestions Serve it over egg noodles, angel hair pasta , or garlic mashed potatoes . I like to serve it with a garden salad with Dutch oven bread or crusty baguettes with soft butter. My favorite side dishes are roasted parmesan asparagus and sauteed green beans . Preparation Tips If you have excess grease after browning the ground beef, drain it before proceeding with the rest of the recipe. I like to use Amish egg noodles, but any egg noodle will work. You can also serve them over mashed potatoes, angel hair pasta, or rice. Wait until serving time to combine with the egg noodles, as the noodles tend to soak up too much of the gravy and get mushy. Storage and Reheat Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. They can be reheated in a pan over medium-low heat or in the microwave at reduced power.  Frequently Asked Questions Can I use other ground meats? Substitute an equal amount of ground turkey, pork, or chicken for the ground beef. Can I freeze this dish? To freeze, cool completely, then store in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat in a pan over medium-low heat or the microwave at reduced power.  What can I do if the stroganoff gets too thick? If the stroganoff becomes too thick, thin it with 1/4 cup of beef broth until it reaches the desired consistency. Made exactly as written and it was fantastic. Did only use the 2 1/2 cups if beef broth and added the 2 1/2 TBL’s of flour and the consistency was perfect. Don’t forget the thyme as that added a nice flavorful touch. Served over wide noodles with side of honey glazed carrots. Family loved it. Fat gives the dish flavor. You can also substitute ground turkey, pork, or chicken. - **Butter**: salted or unsalted. If using salted butter, cut down on any added salt. - **Mushrooms**: Both white button mushrooms and cremini mushrooms work well in this recipe. Heck, you can use some of each for more flavor. - **Seasonings**: dried thyme, fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper. Dill and mustard are other seasonings to try in moderation. - **Beef Broth**: preferably low-sodium - **Sour cream**: full-fat works best ## How to Make Ground Beef Stroganoff Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat.
