Or should I say,\nconcerns\n?\nBut, I went down anyway; made plans right after the festive light-up was announced on TV news. Other than an annual photo-taking ritual that I loathe to miss, I guess the pandemic is not going to go away anytime soon and I might as well learn to live with it.\nJust to highlight, I took reasonable steps to be careful too, beginning with how I went down on a (wet) weekday evening. I also didn’t linger outside the shops and for the first time ever, refrained from entering Tekka Centre.\nTo be clear, I’m not saying that you should mimic me; the stalls and shops do need your business in these trying times. However, if you’re there to check out the illumination, you should try to visit during off-peak hours.\nPlease observe social distancing too. The last thing anybody wants is for the lights to be shut off, the likes of what happened before\nCNY 2021\n.\nWelcoming Deepavali 2021 at Serangoon Road, Little India\nThe festive gateway. This year’s version features a mini gopuram, i.e., the monumental tower found at the entrances of Hindu temples.\nThere’s only one grand peacock mascot at the Tekka Market junction this year. (Because of roadworks, not COVID) But he’s as majestic and as haughty as ever.\nSuch an awesome, mesmerizing tunnel of lights. Agreed?\nModern Tekka Place has some atmospheric, eye-catching decorations too.\nCampbell Lane is now a spacious pedestrian only walkway. There are still festive stalls with huge flower garlands, though. Or should I say, *[concerns](https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/singapore\/covid-19-moh-new-cases-sep-26-death-toll-clusters-2202751)*?\n\nBut, I went down anyway; made plans right after the festive light-up was announced on TV news. Other than an annual photo-taking ritual that I loathe to miss, I guess the pandemic is not going to go away anytime soon and I might as well learn to live with it.\n\nJust to highlight, I took reasonable steps to be careful too, beginning with how I went down on a (wet) weekday evening. I also didn’t linger outside the shops and for the first time ever, refrained from entering Tekka Centre.\n\nTo be clear, I’m not saying that you should mimic me; the stalls and shops do need your business in these trying times. However, if you’re there to check out the illumination, you should try to visit during off-peak hours.\n\nPlease observe social distancing too. Or should I say, *[concerns](https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/singapore\/covid-19-moh-new-cases-sep-26-death-toll-clusters-2202751)*?\n\nBut, I went down anyway; made plans right after the festive light-up was announced on TV news. Other than an annual photo-taking ritual that I loathe to miss, I guess the pandemic is not going to go away anytime soon and I might as well learn to live with it.\n\nJust to highlight, I took reasonable steps to be careful too, beginning with how I went down on a (wet) weekday evening. I also didn’t linger outside the shops and for the first time ever, refrained from entering Tekka Centre.\n\nTo be clear, I’m not saying that you should mimic me; the stalls and shops do need your business in these trying times. However, if you’re there to check out the illumination, you should try to visit during off-peak hours.\n\nPlease observe social distancing too. There are still festive stalls with huge flower garlands, though. Or head down to Serangoon Road at a much later date. For obvious reasons. But, I went down anyway; made plans right after the festive light-up was announced on TV news. Other than an annual photo-taking ritual that I loathe to miss, I guess the pandemic is not going to go away anytime soon and I might as well learn to live with it. Just to highlight, I took reasonable steps to be careful too, beginning with how I went down on a (wet) weekday evening. I also didn’t linger outside the shops and for the first time ever, refrained from entering Tekka Centre. To be clear, I’m not saying that you should mimic me; the stalls and shops do need your business in these trying times. However, if you’re there to check out the illumination, you should try to visit during off-peak hours. Please observe social distancing too.
