If you were hyped for the return of Prison Break, thinking you’d get the same gritty genius and adrenaline-pumping escape magic of the OG seasons.. brace yourself. This revival crashes harder than a car through a windshield - which, apparently, leaves zero scratches in this universe.
The first episode? Yikes. It hits you instantly with that bargain-bin, low-budget energy: cheesy dialogue, painfully weak writing, and clichés stacked so high they could form their own prison tower. Instead of feeling like a slick reboot, it feels like a parody that doesn’t know it’s a parody.
Let’s talk about the wild, unintentionally hilarious moments. We’re thrown into a "radicalized neighborhood" in Yemen where everyone is armed to the teeth.. except the hired killers who show up swinging, a chain and a hatchet. And when our heroes escape, they grab a phone that’s magically unlocked and already on the right screen revealing conveniently timed info. Tech realism? Absolutely not. Comedy? 10/10.
Then there’s the 7-year-old kid talking like a college grad, the superhero jump through a windshield with zero damage, and that IT guy who somehow inspects a blurry, potato-quality printout and instantly declares it "not Photoshopped". Meanwhile a guard recognizes Michael Scofield from a picture where you can barely see an eyeball. Apparently, everyone in Yemen has night-vision detective powers.
It’s moments like these that make it almost impossible to take the episode seriously. The revival tries hard to capture the intense, brainy energy of the original.. yet ends up drowning in bad acting, shallow characters, and a storyline that feels more like a chaotic fanfic than a professional production.
Fans of the earlier seasons deserved better. This season’s glowing ratings? Yeah, call those what they are, deceptive. The disappointment is real, and even loyal fans might lose some respect for the series after watching this.
Though, hey.. on the bright side? T-Bag accidentally turning into Anakin Skywalker was pretty hilarious.
Final Verdict: A messy, cliché-loaded revival that feels cheap, rushed, and painfully hard to take seriously. Watch only if you’re ready to meme it to death.. otherwise, save yourself the heartbreak and rewatch the classics instead.

Seasons 1 and 2 were great—they showed every detail of how the characters planned their escape, and each episode left you asking, “What’s gonna happen next?” That’s exactly what a series should do: make you hungry for more. But by Season 3, I lost that appetite, as the show drifted away from its own title, “Prison Break.” They should have focused more on the prison escape aspect, since that’s what the title promises. From there up to Season 5, it felt like the story was milked too much. I feel the show could have ended stronger, but if you just watch Seasons 1 and 2, it’s truly worth it.

(ENGLISH) Revisiting Prison Break end to end (revival included) confirmed two things: its opening run is dynamite TV, and the farther it gets from the prison, the more wear shows. Season one is a breathless puzzle—inked blueprints, micro-missions, tension episode by episode, and suspense paced almost like music (Ramin Djawadi’s score helps). It’s high-grade entertainment. The cast clicks, too: Wentworth Miller crafts a cerebral hero without losing humanity, Dominic Purcell balances him with weary grit, and Robert Knepper makes T-Bag an unforgettable villain; in season two, William Fichtner (Mahone) elevates the manhunt as Michael’s dark mirror. Then the cracks appear: conspiracies that balloon, miracle coincidences, and a repetition of beats that sometimes demand more faith than logic. Sona (S3) injects fresh air but briefly; S4 pivots to a “heist squad” vibe with mixed results; the 2017 return is fun, though it feels more espionage than escape. Even so, Prison Break remains a highly watchable binge: addictive, expert at cliffhangers, and driven by characters who hook you. If you once dropped it, the full ride is worth it… even if the best memories stay behind bars.

Critics Consensus
*Prison Break* is confident pulp with a crackerjack premise that spreads thinly enough to smooth over the show's more lunkheaded flourishes.

The series' hook -- a season-long escape helps one overlook the many improbabilities.

It is like being on an escalator. You wouldn't call it a lively ride but, once on, it's surprisingly hard to get off.

Daniel S @RT37151421 Nov 14 If you were hyped for the return of Prison Break, thinking you’d get the same gritty genius and adrenaline-pumping escape magic of the OG seasons.. brace yourself. See more Mr. S @RT50725044 Sep 13 Seasons 1 and 2 were great—they showed every detail of how the characters planned their escape, and each episode left you asking, “What’s gonna happen next?” That’s exactly what a series should do: make you hungry for more. See more
