You're only paying \\$5 a person.\n  \n  YouTube music to me works just as well as Spotify or Pandora. Cancel that subscription. Money saved.\n  \n  No ads.\n  \n  I have Netflix. I have Disney plus..\n  \n  I spend more hours per day on YouTube than anything else.\n  \n  Netflix famously said their biggest competitor is YouTube.\n  \n  YouTube famously said their biggest competitor is your time. Time spent reading \/ playing video games is time not spent on YouTube.\n  \n  But YouTube competes with that. Or that allows me to swap between apps while a video or playlist is playing.\n  \n  Derek also has a fantastic point. We have the family plan and I, my partner, my step kids and we have a house account for running Google Home from. I was a Play Music subscriber before they scrapped it and moved us to YouTube Music, which is when I found that Premium was only about £1 more. YouTube premium is insanely generous with the amount of content available on the platform. I’m shocked it doesn’t cost more. I save another \\$12 a month since I canceled Spotify when they added YouTube music in as part of premium.\n  \n  People have taken YouTube for granted since its inception. It’s insane how much content you can watch, for free might I add. I hate watching ads. The music is a great added benefit and now you can listen to podcast on there as well. It trumps literally every it be music streaming platform out there. Whilst all of them must play Licensed songs only, YT music has licensed, unlicensed, remixes, unreleased LP's, mixtapes, instrumentals, fan-made and alternative music content. That alone makes it all worth it. On top of that, no ads on videos, plus the Premium features like listening to video content with your phone off. I remember when I lost my original discount, but single users got to keep it until they eventually took it away from them too. But lately, they’ve added some value by adding a lot of blockbuster movies. Not exclusives, but they have a nice library, and sometimes I use it instead of finding my movies with my pirate hat. But yes, these prices are getting out of hand. I share my YTP with friends and family, and some give me shared access back, but I’m being locked out of that. Hulu just created this unified login system with D+, etc., and I can’t get into it anymore. I do use the music service, but it sucks compared to the original Google Music. I’m constantly forced to listen to video versions of songs (with parts I can’t see, obviously, while driving). I've never had an issue with the correct versions of songs playing, regardless of driving or on mobile or desktop. But I canceled all my streaming services *except* for YT Premium and Amazon Prime. (although I have been a Prime subscriber since before Prime Video and consider that an add-on value to my Prime subscription)\n  \n  As so many others have pointed out, YTP + YT Music is a fantastic bundle value. I've been using YT Music since the first day Play Music came out, never used Spotify at all. The insane amount of ads on free YouTube is enough to drive me bonkers.\n  \n  The HUGE amount of content on YouTube, with just about every subject matter imaginable makes YT a unique value that no other streaming service can offer. (sorry Legal Eagle, Nebula is never really going to take off)\n  \n  One thing nobody else has mentioned is how much YouTube generates for the economy. It's the only video platform where any average citizen can build a revenue source from. There are tons of creators who make great income and have even built entire companies around their YT channel. There are many YT creators that have gone on to get actual traditional TV contracts because of their YT content. (VGG comes to mind) YT creators also can build an entire community - and interact directly with said community, with their YT channels. The amount of support VGG gets, all over the country, is just amazing. In addition to the potential income that can be made, YT is the only place that gives everyone a chance to have their voices heard. (within the rules and guidelines of course) For better or worse, it's an unprecedented thing in human history where any random person can find audience from all over the world.\n  \n  Creators get more money from YT Premium views than they do from the insane amount of spammy ads (per LTT).\n  \n  The value of YT Premium extends far beyond just no ads in videos and YT Music. Getting rid of ads is nice, but is anybody actually fine with paying the price of an entire streaming service just to have ad-free watching? While I'd likely welcome a Premium Lite with open arms, it doesn't solve the bigger problem plaguing all streaming services. YouTube Premium isn't the only streamer that's lost value with the price hikes. Unlike Netflix or Max, YouTube doesn't have a wide assortment of exclusive movies or shows to keep me subscribed. YouTube Premium has competition from Apple Music and Spotify that it has to ward off. With the price increase, it's just as expensive as those services, and while ad-free music is nice, it's unlikely YouTube could overcome Spotify's built-in audience. It leaves me wondering exactly who YouTube Premium is for. It's not a bad deal if you use YouTube a ton and don't have a subscription to Apple Music or Spotify. The problem is, along with all streaming services really, is the constantly increasing price. At the time of this writing, YouTube Premium costs $14 a month , and the cost rises to over $20 for a family plan. Getting rid of ads is nice, but is anybody actually fine with paying the price of an entire streaming service just to have ad-free watching? I got started on YouTube Premium through a free trial, and the allure of no ads eventually led me to pay for a few additional months, but I had to ask myself if the price was worth it at a certain point. It might be worth it for people who have large disposable incomes, but anybody who has to limit their spending won't be able to find a lot of value here. I would have a much easier time convincing myself to pay a lower price for YouTube Premium if that existed, and it seems like there might be some hints of a plan like that returning . While I'd likely welcome a Premium Lite with open arms, it doesn't solve the bigger problem plaguing all streaming services. YouTube Premium isn't the only streamer that's lost value with the price hikes. Unlike Netflix or Max, YouTube doesn't have a wide assortment of exclusive movies or shows to keep me subscribed. With the price increase, it's just as expensive as those services, and while ad-free music is nice, it's unlikely YouTube could overcome Spotify's built-in audience. It leaves me wondering exactly who YouTube Premium is for. YouTube premium has a generous share with five accounts policy. Divide the family price by five. You're only paying \$5 a person. YouTube music to me works just as well as Spotify or Pandora. Cancel that subscription. Money saved. No ads. I have Netflix. I have Disney plus.. I spend more hours per day on YouTube than anything else. Netflix famously said their biggest competitor is YouTube. YouTube famously said their biggest competitor is your time. Time spent reading / playing video games is time not spent on YouTube. But YouTube competes with that. Netflix competes with TV. Or that allows me to swap between apps while a video or playlist is playing. Derek also has a fantastic point. We have the family plan and I, my partner, my step kids and we have a house account for running Google Home from. I was a Play Music subscriber before they scrapped it and moved us to YouTube Music, which is when I found that Premium was only about £1 more. YouTube premium is insanely generous with the amount of content available on the platform. I’m shocked it doesn’t cost more. I save another \$12 a month since I canceled Spotify when they added YouTube music in as part of premium. People have taken YouTube for granted since its inception. It’s insane how much content you can watch, for free might I add. I hate watching ads. The music is a great added benefit and now you can listen to podcast on there as well. It trumps literally every it be music streaming platform out there. Whilst all of them must play Licensed songs only, YT music has licensed, unlicensed, remixes, unreleased LP's, mixtapes, instrumentals, fan-made and alternative music content. That alone makes it all worth it. On top of that, no ads on videos, plus the Premium features like listening to video content with your phone off. I remember when I lost my original discount, but single users got to keep it until they eventually took it away from them too. But lately, they’ve added some value by adding a lot of blockbuster movies. Not exclusives, but they have a nice library, and sometimes I use it instead of finding my movies with my pirate hat. But yes, these prices are getting out of hand. I share my YTP with friends and family, and some give me shared access back, but I’m being locked out of that. Hulu just created this unified login system with D+, etc., and I can’t get into it anymore. I do use the music service, but it sucks compared to the original Google Music. I’m constantly forced to listen to video versions of songs (with parts I can’t see, obviously, while driving). About 95% of the content I view is on YouTube, across all the channels I watch I'm able to be endlessly entertained whenever I want. Before I go YouTube premium I was paying for Spotify so I could download songs (I work a lot where I have no phone signal) but id still stubbornly sit through endless YouTube ads. Then I thought I'll just cancel Spotify, and get and free YouTube and YouTube music for basically the same price. I agree there. But I canceled all my streaming services *except* for YT Premium and Amazon Prime. (although I have been a Prime subscriber since before Prime Video and consider that an add-on value to my Prime subscription) As so many others have pointed out, YTP + YT Music is a fantastic bundle value. I've been using YT Music since the first day Play Music came out, never used Spotify at all. The insane amount of ads on free YouTube is enough to drive me bonkers. The HUGE amount of content on YouTube, with just about every subject matter imaginable makes YT a unique value that no other streaming service can offer. (sorry Legal Eagle, Nebula is never really going to take off) One thing nobody else has mentioned is how much YouTube generates for the economy. It's the only video platform where any average citizen can build a revenue source from. There are tons of creators who make great income and have even built entire companies around their YT channel. There are many YT creators that have gone on to get actual traditional TV contracts because of their YT content. (VGG comes to mind) YT creators also can build an entire community - and interact directly with said community, with their YT channels. The amount of support VGG gets, all over the country, is just amazing. In addition to the potential income that can be made, YT is the only place that gives everyone a chance to have their voices heard. Creators get more money from YT Premium views than they do from the insane amount of spammy ads (per LTT). The value of YT Premium extends far beyond just no ads in videos and YT Music. For the uninitiated, YouTube Premium offers ad-free viewing on YouTube along with ad-free listening on YouTube Music. It's not a bad deal if you use YouTube a ton and don't have a subscription to Apple Music or Spotify. The problem is, along with all streaming services really, is the constantly increasing price. At the time of this writing, YouTube Premium **costs \$14 a month**, and the cost rises to over \$20 for a family plan. Getting rid of ads is nice, but is anybody actually fine with paying the price of an entire streaming service just to have ad-free watching? I do most of my YouTube viewing on my Apple TV 4K, and it wasn't until then I realized how invasive the ads were once I dropped my subscription. I had the annoying Apple TV 4K issue of a flashing black screen any time ads popped up, but instead of resubscribing to Premium, I just watched YouTube less. Personally, I don't take advantage of features like downloading videos or listening to music, so while that adds value for some people, it's not a selling point for me. At the end of the day, I was paying \$14 a month just to have no ads. While I'd likely welcome a Premium Lite with open arms, it doesn't solve the bigger problem plaguing all streaming services. YouTube Premium isn't the only streamer that's lost value with the price hikes. Unlike Netflix or Max, YouTube doesn't have a wide assortment of exclusive movies or shows to keep me subscribed. Instead, I was simply paying for a better viewing experience. The pricing of services like YouTube Premium is becoming a big issue, and that's the case even if you don't take traditional streaming services like Netflix into account. YouTube Premium has competition from Apple Music and Spotify that it has to ward off. With the price increase, it's just as expensive as those services, and while ad-free music is nice, it's unlikely YouTube could overcome Spotify's built-in audience. It leaves me wondering exactly who YouTube Premium is for.
