Police Chief Eric King said Friday there was no truth to the allegation.

Veronica McQueen's federal lawsuit, filed Thursday against the former superintendent, principal, teachers and a school social worker, says three teachers had been told on Feb. 29, 2000, that the boy, also 6, had a gun when he went to school that day.

It also alleges that the boy had attacked other students in the months before Kayla's shooting, including stabbing one boy in the neck with a pencil and assaulting another child the day before Kayla's death.
The lawsuit, seeking compensatory and punitive damages, accuses school officials of failing to follow their own policies and expel the boy.

There is "very strong and compelling evidence of recklessness" by the school district, McQueen's attorney J. Dallas Winegarden said in Friday's Detroit Free Press. McQueen has declined to comment.
Beecher Community Schools Superintendent Kenneth Jackson said he hadn't seen the lawsuit.

King said Friday that his officers in Mount Morris Township, just north of Flint, had interviewed numerous witnesses after the shooting and found no evidence that school officials knew about the gun before the boy pulled it out in class that day.
There is "absolutely no truth to the allegation whatsoever," King said.

Kayla was shot once in the chest with a stolen gun the boy had found at the house where he was living with an uncle, police said. The boy, deemed to young to be charged, was placed in foster care, and his mother later gave up her parental rights to the child. |

# Mother Sues Over School Shooting

Two years after 6-year-old Kayla Rolland was fatally shot by a classmate, her mother is suing, saying teachers knew the boy had a gun at school and did nothing.
