President Donald Trump
âs
approval rating
has dropped to its lowest point during the second term of his presidency,
according to one poll
, while
another found
that the war with Iran is souring many Americansâ views of the president.
The latest
Economist/YouGov poll
, released Tuesday, revealed that 38% of Americans strongly or somewhat approve of the Republican presidentâs job performance, compared with 59% who disapprove. That net approval of minus-21 is Trumpâs lowest mark during his second term and nearly matched his all-time low (also minus-21) recorded in November 2017.
More than half of respondents, 51%, said they strongly disapprove of the way Trump is doing his job. That marks an all-time high for either of Trumpâs terms.

The president also is experiencing a record-high disapproval rating among independents, with 69% of them disapproving compared with 26% approving. That net approval of minus-43 also is a record low.
Trumpâs overall negative net approval rating is nearing the levels of minus-22 and minus-23 that former President Joe Biden recorded during spring and summer 2024.
The YouGov poll, which surveyed 1,515 U.S. citizens from Feb. 27-March 2, has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
Meanwhile, a
Daily Mail/J.L. Partners poll
showed Trumpâs approval rating at 44%, a dip of four points since last week and the lowest mark recorded by the Daily Mail.
The war with Iran was a major driver of the dip, with 40% of respondents saying they viewed Trump more negatively in the past week. Asked why their view of Trump had worsened, 59% said the war with Iran.
RECOMMENDED
Just 26% said they viewed Trump more positively in the past week.
The presidentâs approval rating has indeed dipped to the lowest point of his second term in recent weeks, according to The New York Times, which averages dozens of polls into
an ongoing data visualization
. The Times graphic showed Trumpâs approval rating at 41% as of Thursday, compared with a disapproval of 56%. The approval hit a low of 40% in mid-February, while the disapproval reached a high of 57% on March 1.
Other recent polls found a range of results. The latest Angus Reid Global poll showed Trumpâs approval at 35% and disapproval at 58%; Republican pollster Trafalgar Group found that 50% approve and 48% disapprove; and Quantus Insightsâ poll showed approval at 45% and disapproval at 54%.
