A second powerful storm, Hurricane Maria, moved across the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on September 20, bringing catastrophic wind and rain to the Caribbean parks.\nFrom early September through November, teams from across the National Park Service have been in the Caribbean parks to provide support for the recovery process. This page will provide stories about that process, from these early days of stabilization after the storms, through the stages of reopening the park, and into the longer-term effort to fully recover from the extensive damage wrought by Irma and Maria.\nShowing results 1-5 of 5\nDr. Caroline Rogers and Jeff Miller gave presentations to the public on April 7, 2018. The presentations provided information on the damage caused to the coral reefs, marine life and mangroves in the Virgin Islands National Park and Coral Reef National Monument. A second powerful storm, Hurricane Maria, moved across the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on September 20, bringing catastrophic wind and rain to the Caribbean parks. From early September through November, teams from across the National Park Service have been in the Caribbean parks to provide support for the recovery process.
