Among the many highlights expected on the rinks and slopes of the Chinese capital are U.S. champion skier Mikaela Shiffrin and snowboarder Chloe Kim, as they both attempt to retain their historic gold medals. While this is the first time China has hosted the Winter Olympics, many will remember how Beijing was the host city for the successful 2008 Summer Olympics, a fact reflected in the torch designed for the 2022 Games. The Games' organizers wrote in a statement: "The design of the 2022 torch honors the Olympic legacy in the Chinese capital by featuring a similar design to the cauldron of the 2008 Olympic Games, which looked like a giant scroll."
