Among the many highlights expected on the rinks and slopes of the Chinese capital are U.S. champion skier Mikaela Shiffrin and snowboarder Chloe Kim, as they both attempt to retain their historic gold medals.
While this is the first time China has hosted the Winter Olympics, many will remember how Beijing was the host city for the successful 2008 Summer Olympics, a fact reflected in the torch designed for the 2022 Games.
The Games' organizers wrote in a statement: "The design of the 2022 torch honors the Olympic legacy in the Chinese capital by featuring a similar design to the cauldron of the 2008 Olympic Games, which looked like a giant scroll."
With the Winter Olympics coming so soon after the pandemic-postponed Tokyo Games, people have probably developed a taste for wall-to-wall sport, meaning they are likely eager to know when the Beijing Games will start.

Where Are the Winter 2022 Olympics?

The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics are officially scheduled to kick off on Friday, February 4.
However, the Games are in actuality beginning on Wednesday, February 2, with the curling mixed doubles round-robinâtwo days before the official curtain-raiser at the Opening Ceremony.
China's capital city is 13 hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone, which is similar to Tokyo's time difference. As a result, sports fans should again expect to see evening events broadcast live to their screen in the morning, and vice versa.
The 2022 Games will then proceed to run for more than a fortnight, before being brought to a close on Sunday, February 20 with a second ceremony.
There, the Games will be handed over to the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, hosts of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
