Donald Trump
's reaction to Carlos Alcaraz's U.S. Open win on Sunday evening have gone viral on social media, with some users deeming it "hilarious."
Trump's attendance at the game drew mixed reactions from the crowd, with reports of some members cheering, and others loudly booing.
While some took to social media to comment on the crowd's negative response to the president and to mock his reaction to the match outcome, others wrote that there were "screaming fans" who supported Trump in the stadium.
Why It Matters
While the president had previously avoided the tournament following a hostile reception at a game in 2015, Trump and members of this team decided to attend Sunday's final.
Implementing the necessary security measures for his arrival meant that
the game was delayed by almost an hour
âsparking
fury
among those waiting to be let in to the stadium. Even as the players walked on, thousands of fans were still waiting to enter, Sky Sports reported.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA)
also reportedly emailed broadcasters
to ask them to "refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the president's attendance in any capacity," according to tennis Substack Bounces.
In a statement previously sent to
Newsweek
via email, a spokesperson for the USTA said, "We regularly ask our broadcasters to refrain from showcasing off-court disruptions."

| Readable Markdown | Videos of President [Donald Trump](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/donald-trump)'s reaction to Carlos Alcaraz's U.S.
## Why It Matters
While the president had previously avoided the tournament following a hostile reception at a game in 2015, Trump and members of this team decided to attend Sunday's final.
Implementing the necessary security measures for his arrival meant that [the game was delayed by almost an hour](https://www.newsweek.com/president-trump-booed-us-open-match-delayed-2126039)âsparking [fury](https://x.com/matthewrlambert/status/1964754091759788270?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1964754091759788270%7Ctwgr%5Ea3eab69fbb615ba50a4adc3207fc59f262549a7e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fmetro.co.uk%2F2025%2F09%2F07%2Fdonald-trump-booed-crowd-causes-chaos-us-open-final-24101609%2F%3FITO%3Dmsn) among those waiting to be let in to the stadium. Even as the players walked on, thousands of fans were still waiting to enter, Sky Sports reported.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) [also reportedly emailed broadcasters](https://www.newsweek.com/us-open-usta-donald-trump-memo-jannik-sinner-carlos-alcaraz-2125890) to ask them to "refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the president's attendance in any capacity," according to tennis Substack Bounces.
In a statement previously sent to *Newsweek* via email, a spokesperson for the USTA said, "We regularly ask our broadcasters to refrain from showcasing off-court disruptions."

## What To Know
The Spanish player beat Italian Jannik Sinner in the final match of the tournament, securing not only his second U.S. Open title, but also taking over the No. 1 spot in the world rankingsâa position previously held by his opponent.
In the wake of Alcaraz's victory, a win of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, videos have been emerging on social media of Trump's reaction to the outcome.
In one [video](https://x.com/youvegotajmail/status/1964805319193981207), as Alcaraz celebrated his victory on court, the camera showed the president not clapping while those around him continued to applaud the player's win.

ESPN coverage captured the same moment, although it was not shown on the U.S Open Tennis Championships' [clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQLSdgCrYNg) of the championship point, which was shared on YouTube.
Other posts about the president's reception at the tournament also went viral.

Madden also shared a video, which appears to have been taken by someone sat in the stadium, where members of the crowd can be heard loudly booing.
However, other social media users took to the platform to suggest the posts were purposefully misleading.
Conservative commentator Nick Sortor [wrote](https://x.com/nicksortor/status/1964830913206108254) on X: "The paid-off Democrat 'influencers' are trying to make you believe the crowd at the U.S. Open was anti-Trump."

After his semi-final win against Novak Djokovic, Alcaraz said that it is a "[privilege for the tournaments](https://www.newsweek.com/carlos-alcaraz-donald-trump-us-open-mens-final-jannik-sinner-2125879) having the president from every country just to support the tournament, to support tennis and to support the match."
"It's great for tennis to have the president at the final," he told reporters.
A [clip](https://x.com/asud683385/status/1964297515089740265) of the president's last appearance at a U.S. Open match in 2015 was also shared on X before the match, showing news commentators joking about the audible boos from the crowd as Trump walks into the stadium.
