| Boilerpipe Text | U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating has been "in a free fall" for weeks, pollster
Nate Silver
has said.
Writing in his Substack blog, Silver Bulletin, the statistician and political analyst said Trump's net approval rating is now at "the lowest it's been during his second term."
Newsweek
reached out to the White House by email outside of normal business hours for comment.
Why It Matters
Approval ratings are useful in gauging the mood of the nation and the public's response to Trump's policies.
On November 4, there were a series of elections across the country in which Democrats made a number of gains in key seats including the New York City mayoral election, where Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani defeated independent Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. These election results have concerned the GOP ahead of future votes.

What To Know
Silver, who founded 538, a website that offers opinion poll analysis, said that Trump's net approval rating has declined from -7.5 percentage points on October 19 to -13 points on November 8.
He added that the proportion of Americans who strongly disapprove of Trump hit a second-term high of 45 percent and that finding "means Trump is once again less popular than Joe Biden was at this point in his term." He said that at the same point, Biden's net approval rating was at -8.3 percentage points.
However, he said Trump's approval rating was about 5 points higher than it was at the same point in his first term.
"Donald Trump's approval rating has been in free fall since last October," Silver wrote.
It follows other negative approval rating polls. A recentÂ
poll
 byÂ
The Economist
/YouGov found Trumpâs approval rating at itsÂ
lowest level since he returned to office
in January, with 39 percent of people saying they approved of the job he is doing, while 58 percent disapproved, resulting in a net approval rating of -19 points.
According toÂ
Rasmussen
Reports, a pollster that has beenÂ
accused of leaning toward Republican candidates
but claims to be independent, Trump's net approval rating is -8 percentage points. As per their tracker, this is the president's lowest approval rating since his second term started in January.
Meanwhile, according to RealClearPolitics, which aggregates several polls, the president's net approval rating is at -8.9 percentage points, the lowest in his second term so far, as per the website's tracker.
What People Are Saying
President Donald
Â
Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social on Monday:Â
"So many Fake Polls are being shown by the Radical Left Media, all slanted heavily toward Democrats and Far Left Wingers ⊠Fake News will never change, they are evil and corrupt but, as I look around my beautiful surroundings, I say to myself, 'Oh, look, Iâm sitting in the Oval Office!'"
Thomas Gift, associate professor of political science
previously told
Â
Newsweek
:
"Itâs hard to look at the shutdown and not see it weighing on Trumpâs polling. Even if voters are frustrated with Democrats as well, prolonged dysfunction rarely benefits anyone politically. Government shutdowns tend to reinforce the sense that Washington is brokenâand while both sides may take heat, the president typically bears the brunt of the blame."
Harry Enten, CNN's chief data analyst, recently said
Trump's approval rating is
"down there with the Titanic."
What Happens Next
As his presidency continues, Trump's popularity will likely fluctuate. Whether his low approval ratings affect the GOP's performance in upcoming elections, including the November 2026 midterms, remains to be seen.

Pollsters and the science of doctored figures. What really matters is what the voters say and we have to remain vigilant that we will still have a right to vote fairly next November. The repugnicans are doing everything they can to restrict voting rights to control the elections. We must remember in November, again, if we can.

Are Republicans really going after peopleâs right to pray? We know theyâre going after other rights but also prayer? I thought they were like all Christian and stuff? What happened? This is whatâs going on in Chicago:
Fridayâs âFaith over Fearâ rally featured prayers and speeches from groups including Indigenous Americans, Catholics, Jews, Muslims and Unitarians. The Faith over Fear rally will be held on the first Friday of every month from November forward, organizers said.
In a possible violation of the First Amendment, federal officials instructed demonstrators to stop holding religious gatherings outside the immigration processing facility in suburban Broadview.
Federal authorities told demonstrators Friday that there would be âno more prayerâ in front of or inside the Broadview ICE facility, in a move that mystified local leaders and raised legal questions.
"Iâm dumbfounded,â the police chief told Block Club. âEvery time I talk with \[federal officials\], it feels like their rules keep changing. We donât really know whatâs happening, Iâm sorry I canât say more. We just want to keep people safe and let them peacefully protest without getting hurt.â

Republicans are trying to make Democrats cave and vote so later on they can say well you voted for it. It's your fault you voted for it.
But Democrats are refusing to fall for that again. The first time was when George Bush said youâre with us or youâre with the terrorist so you better vote for the Iraq war, the one where they couldnât find WMDâs and thought Iraq was behind 911. So Democrats voted for it, and as soon as we found out that everything Republicans said were untrue, they were pointing at Democrats and said itâs your fault, you voted for it. While Schumer and Durbin may have fallen for that again, the rest of the Democrats are refusing to be conned.edited

LOL, I see you have no logical and coherent reply to my post. Typical MAGA. When they have nothing they can say to defend their post, they make an attempt at humiliating the other poster.
But it doesn't work, Cletus. Incidentally and not for nothing, I just retired, after over 50 years in the workforce. Never had to take one dime from gubmint, not even unemployment compensation.
Unlike you, able-bodied but who I'm sure has been on the dole for years. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Ekena Millwork must be ecstatic having the dictatorking gluing their plastic and wood appliqués all over the White House. Wonder if the dictatorking is getting a volume discount? Those big plastic ones list for \$70 each without the gold leaf over the primer paint. Beautiful tacky oval office indeed.

Really? Well to hear Trump talk, his approval rating is 99.9%, gas is two bucks a gallon, and groceries will cost you less now than they did in 1968. Is he WRONG? Say it ain't so!!!\!

| Readable Markdown | U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating has been "in a free fall" for weeks, pollster [Nate Silver](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/nate-silver) has said.
Writing in his Substack blog, Silver Bulletin, the statistician and political analyst said Trump's net approval rating is now at "the lowest it's been during his second term."
*Newsweek* reached out to the White House by email outside of normal business hours for comment.
## Why It Matters
Approval ratings are useful in gauging the mood of the nation and the public's response to Trump's policies.
On November 4, there were a series of elections across the country in which Democrats made a number of gains in key seats including the New York City mayoral election, where Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani defeated independent Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. These election results have concerned the GOP ahead of future votes.

## What To Know
Silver, who founded 538, a website that offers opinion poll analysis, said that Trump's net approval rating has declined from -7.5 percentage points on October 19 to -13 points on November 8.
A recent [poll](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/poll) by *The Economist*/YouGov found Trumpâs approval rating at its [lowest level since he returned to office](https://www.newsweek.com/trumps-net-approval-rating-hits-second-term-low-poll-shows-10955247) in January, with 39 percent of people saying they approved of the job he is doing, while 58 percent disapproved, resulting in a net approval rating of -19 points.
According to [Rasmussen](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/rasmussen) Reports, a pollster that has been [accused of leaning toward Republican candidates](https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-approval-rating-polls-republican-2059459) but claims to be independent, Trump's net approval rating is -8 percentage points. As per their tracker, this is the president's lowest approval rating since his second term started in January.
Meanwhile, according to RealClearPolitics, which aggregates several polls, the president's net approval rating is at -8.9 percentage points, the lowest in his second term so far, as per the website's tracker.
## What People Are Saying
**President Donald** **Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social on Monday:** "So many Fake Polls are being shown by the Radical Left Media, all slanted heavily toward Democrats and Far Left Wingers ⊠Fake News will never change, they are evil and corrupt but, as I look around my beautiful surroundings, I say to myself, 'Oh, look, Iâm sitting in the Oval Office!'"
**Thomas Gift, associate professor of political science [previously told](https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-approval-rating-hits-new-low-10980503) *Newsweek****:* "Itâs hard to look at the shutdown and not see it weighing on Trumpâs polling. Even if voters are frustrated with Democrats as well, prolonged dysfunction rarely benefits anyone politically. Government shutdowns tend to reinforce the sense that Washington is brokenâand while both sides may take heat, the president typically bears the brunt of the blame."
**Harry Enten, CNN's chief data analyst, recently said** Trump's approval rating is ["down there with the Titanic."](https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trumps-approval-rating-down-there-with-the-titanic-analyst-11008768)
## What Happens Next
As his presidency continues, Trump's popularity will likely fluctuate. Whether his low approval ratings affect the GOP's performance in upcoming elections, including the November 2026 midterms, remains to be seen.
