President Donald Trump 's approval rating has taken a plunge, according to new polling. The latest J.L. Partners/ Daily Mail poll , conducted on June 6 among 1,006 registered voters, found that 47 percent of respondents approve of the president's job performance, while 53 percent disapprove, giving him a net approval rating of -6 points. That is down from an approval rating of 50 percent in May. However, it is still up from the 45 percent approval rating recorded in the J.L. Partners/ Daily Mail April poll, a second-term low. Both polls had a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points. The latest YouGov/ Economist poll , conducted between June 6 and 9 among 1,533 adults, shows Trump's approval rating at 43 percent, down from 45 percent the previous week, while his disapproval rating stands at 52 percent, up from 49 percent the week before. The most recent poll had a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points. Why It Matters Recent surveys have shown Trump's approval rating creeping back up after a period of decline following the introduction of his "Liberation Day" tariffs in April, which led to a decline in the stock market. However, some polls published in recent days reveal a more complex picture of Trump's support. donald trump speaks white house President Donald Trump speaks during an "Invest in America" roundtable with business leaders at the White House, Monday, June 9, 2025, in Washington. | Evan Vucci/AP/AP What To Know While some polls show Trump's approval rating declining, they stand apart from the general trend recently, which has seen his approval rating creep back up in recent weeks after the fallout from his "Liberation Day" tariffs. That includes the most recent ActiVote poll, which showed that Trump's approval rating stands at 46 percent, while 50 percent disapprove. That is up from last month, when 45 percent approved and 51 percent disapproved, and breaks a trend that had seen Trump's approval ratings in the poll decline each month since January. The numbers from May are also significantly better than Trump's average over the 48 months of his first presidency (41 percent), surpassing former President Joe Biden 's average approval rating for his full term (41 percent) and his approval rating for his final year (40 percent). The ActiVote poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points. In the latest YouGov/ Economist poll, Trump's approval rating increased by 1 point to 45 percent, while his disapproval rating decreased by 3 points to 49 percent. Meanwhile, in the Trafalgar Group's latest poll, conducted May 30 to June 1, 54 percent of voters approved, while 46 percent disapproved—a net approval rating of +8. That was up from a month ago, when a survey conducted by pollsters with Insider Advantage between April 30 and May 1 put Trump's approval rating at 46 percent, while 44 percent disapproved. Newsweek's poll tracker also shows Trump's approval rating trending upward. Currently, an average of 48 percent approve of Trump's job performance, while 50 percent disapprove. Last week, Trump's approval rating stood at 47 percent, with 49 percent disapproving. A month ago, according to the tracker, the president's approval rating stood at 44 percent, while his disapproval rate was firmly in the 50s. However, for the most part, Trump's approval and disapproval ratings appear stable or slightly improving, suggesting that while he's not gaining significant new support, he's also not losing ground. Poll Date Approve Disapprove Rasmussen 9-Jun 51 48 YouGov/Economist June 6-9 43 52 Morning Consult June 6-8 47 51 J.L. In the most recent Morning Consult poll, the president's approval rating stood at 47 percent, up from 46 percent the previous week. In comparison, 51 percent said they disapproved of his job performance for the third consecutive week. In the latest CBS/YouGov poll, Trump's approval rating was unchanged at 45 percent, while 55 percent disapproved for a second month running What Happens Next As the effects of his economic, immigration and other major policies come into sharper relief, Trump's approval rating is likely to fluctuate.

President [Donald Trump](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/donald-trump)'s approval rating has taken a plunge, according to new polling. The [latest J.L. Partners/*Daily* *Mail* poll](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14794205/donald-trump-elon-musk-approval-poll.html), conducted on June 6 among 1,006 registered voters, found that 47 percent of respondents approve of the president's job performance, while 53 percent disapprove, giving him a net approval rating of -6 points. That is down from an approval rating of 50 percent in May. However, it is still up from the 45 percent approval rating recorded in the J.L. Partners/*Daily Mail* April poll, a second-term low. Both polls had a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points. The latest YouGov/*Economist* poll, conducted between June 6 and 9 among 1,533 adults, shows Trump's approval rating at 43 percent, down from 45 percent the previous week, while his disapproval rating stands at 52 percent, up from 49 percent the week before. The most recent poll had a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points. ## Why It Matters Recent surveys have shown Trump's approval rating creeping back up after a period of decline following the introduction of his "Liberation Day" tariffs in April, which led to a decline in the stock market. However, some polls published in recent days reveal a more complex picture of Trump's support. The numbers from May are also significantly better than Trump's average over the 48 months of his first presidency (41 percent), surpassing former President [Joe Biden](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/joe-biden)'s average approval rating for his full term (41 percent) and his approval rating for his final year (40 percent). The ActiVote poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points. In the latest YouGov/*Economist* poll, Trump's approval rating increased by 1 point to 45 percent, while his disapproval rating decreased by 3 points to 49 percent. *Newsweek's* poll tracker also shows Trump's approval rating trending upward. | | | | | |---|---|---|---| | **Poll** | **Date** | **Approve** | **Disapprove** | | Rasmussen | 9-Jun | 51 | 48 | | YouGov/Economist | June 6-9 | 43 | 52 | | Morning Consult | June 6-8 | 47 | 51 | | J.L. In the most recent Morning Consult poll, the president's approval rating stood at 47 percent, up from 46 percent the previous week. In comparison, 51 percent said they disapproved of his job performance for the third consecutive week. In the latest CBS/YouGov poll, Trump's approval rating was unchanged at 45 percent, while 55 percent disapproved for a second month running ## What Happens Next As the effects of his economic, immigration and other major policies come into sharper relief, Trump's approval rating is likely to fluctuate.
