Donald Trump
's approval rating has changed course and is improving slightly, according to a new poll.
Latest polling by TIPP found that Trump's net approval rating in terms of job performance specifically has increased from -5 in May to -2 in June, suggesting his standing among voters is improving.
Why It Matters
Trump's popularity has fluctuated
in the first few months of his second term, with some polls more favorable than others.
Providing a snapshot for the electorate's mood, approval ratings help policymakers understand the public response to Trump's decisions. Positive polling could improve his reputation and be used to justify his policies. Negative polling, on the other hand, may persuade him to change them, or bolster his opposition.

What To Know
According to the latest poll of 1,395 registered voters by TIPP for Issues & Insights, 43 percent of people approve of the job Trump is doing while 45 percent disapprove, giving him a net approval rating of -2.
The polling was conducted between May 28 and May 30 and had a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points.
This is an improvement from May, when 42 percent of people approved of Trump's job performance and 47 percent disapproved, giving him a net approval rating of -5.
The June poll means Trump's approval rating has almost returned to the point it was at in April, when TIPP found he had a -1 approval rating. That poll found that 44 percent approved and 45 percent disapproved of the job Trump was doing.
TIPP is considered the most accurate pollster as it is the only national poll to correctly identify the winners of the last six presidential elections.
However, other polls
paint a less positive picture
of the president. A YouGov/Economist poll, conducted between June 20-23 among 1,590 adults, showed
Trump with a net approval rating of -14 points,
with 40 percent approving and 54 percent disapprovingâdown slightly from -13 last week. The poll had a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percent.
Meanwhile, a Tyson Group poll, conducted between June 25-26 among 1,027 U.S. adults, showed Trump's net approval rating 6 points underwater, with 45 percent approving and 51 percent disapproving.
What People Are Saying
Mark Shanahan, who teaches American politics at the University of Surrey in the U.K., told
Newsweek
:
"At the moment, polls are pretty much following the news cycle. Trump's perceived successes in at least delaying the Iranian uranium enrichment program, plus steering fellow
NATO
members to commit to far higher defense contributions, are playing well.
"But much now rests on his powers of persuasion in getting
Republican
senators onside to get his 'Big Beautiful bill' over the line in
Congress
. Failure to do that, or to nail down his much-touted 90 trade agreements, and his numbers will doubtless slip again.
But we're still a long way out from the midterms and we're likely to see huge fluctuations while voters have little to focus on. The only predictable element of Trump's second term is unpredictability. And that's the stuff of nightmares for anyone trying to predict future elections."
What Happens Next
As his presidency continues, Trump's approval rating is likely to fluctuate in line with his policies and his response to national and international events.
His popularity will be tested in earnest when voters head to the polls in the November 2026 midterms. |

| Readable Markdown | President [Donald Trump](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/donald-trump)'s approval rating has changed course and is improving slightly, according to a new poll.
Latest polling by TIPP found that Trump's net approval rating in terms of job performance specifically has increased from -5 in May to -2 in June, suggesting his standing among voters is improving.
## Why It Matters
[Trump's popularity has fluctuated](https://www.newsweek.com/trump-approval-rating-states-no-kings-protest-2083997) in the first few months of his second term, with some polls more favorable than others.
Providing a snapshot for the electorate's mood, approval ratings help policymakers understand the public response to Trump's decisions. Positive polling could improve his reputation and be used to justify his policies. Negative polling, on the other hand, may persuade him to change them, or bolster his opposition.

## What To Know
According to the latest poll of 1,395 registered voters by TIPP for Issues & Insights, 43 percent of people approve of the job Trump is doing while 45 percent disapprove, giving him a net approval rating of -2.
However, other polls [paint a less positive picture](https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-approval-rating-update-polls-2089788) of the president. A YouGov/Economist poll, conducted between June 20-23 among 1,590 adults, showed [Trump with a net approval rating of -14 points,](https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-approval-rating-update-polls-2091964) with 40 percent approving and 54 percent disapprovingâdown slightly from -13 last week.
## What People Are Saying
**Mark Shanahan, who teaches American politics at the University of Surrey in the U.K., told *Newsweek*:** "At the moment, polls are pretty much following the news cycle. Trump's perceived successes in at least delaying the Iranian uranium enrichment program, plus steering fellow [NATO](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/nato) members to commit to far higher defense contributions, are playing well.
"But much now rests on his powers of persuasion in getting [Republican](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/republican) senators onside to get his 'Big Beautiful bill' over the line in [Congress](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/congress).
## What Happens Next
As his presidency continues, Trump's approval rating is likely to fluctuate in line with his policies and his response to national and international events.
His popularity will be tested in earnest when voters head to the polls in the November 2026 midterms. |
