Brandon Brown, the NASCAR racer at the center of the Republican catchphrase "let's go Brandon," said he hopes to use his new enhanced profile to speak out about issues affecting Americans after finding himself in the "middle of the American political conversation." In an opinion piece for Newsweek, Brown said he has no plans to become actively engaged in politics on the back of his viral fame, but he understands why people are frustrated at the government right now. The NASCAR driver said for months he has "kept quiet" over his name being used as a thinly veiled attack on Biden over fears that he would be "canceled by my sponsors, or by the media" if he spoke out one way or another. Brown said he has now decided to publicly speak about the chant after realizing there is a reason "millions of people" continue to chant his name in such a way. "I have no interest in leading some political fight. I race cars. I am not going to endorse anyone, and I am certainly not going to tell anyone how to vote," Brown wrote. "But I'm also no longer going to be silent about the situation I find myself in, and why millions of Americans are chanting my name. I hear them, even if Washington does not. "Ninety-nine percent of my time this upcoming NASCAR season will be spent trying to take the next lap a little faster. But, when I have the opportunity and the time, I am not going to hesitate to speak about issues I am passionate about, or the problems we face together as Americans." Brown inadvertently became a central figure in the highly divisive current state of politics after he was interviewed NBC Sports reporter Kelli Stavast following his victory at the Talladega Superspeedway in October. During the interview, a section of the crowd was chanting "f**k Joe Biden "—which had been heard at major sporting events for a number of weeks. Stavast referenced the chant during the broadcast but stated that they were actually singing: "Let's go Brandon," in support of him. It is unclear if Stavast genuinely thought the crowd were saying "let's go Brandon" or if she was trying to divert from the obscene chant because she was live on air. Since then, "let's go Brandon" has been used as a direct replacement for the "f**k Joe Biden" chant, with the phrase even being used on merchandise sold by Donald Trump. In the opinion piece, Brown brought up rising gas prices as an issue that not only affects his line of work, but millions of other Americans as one such "struggle we all feel and share" which he can speak about with his newfound fame. "I buy more gas than most. I don't like that $4 per gallon has become the norm," Brown said. "I know the cost of everything is rising and I know first-hand that making ends meet can be a struggle for middle-class folks like me." Brown also suggested a new slogan to be used in the future instead of the one bearing his name: "Let's Go, America." brandon brown Brandon Brown, driver of the #68 American PetroLog Chevrolet, walks the grid prior to the NASCAR Xfinity Series Drive for the Cure 250 presented by Bl... | Jared C.
