Kate Freud, and her husband Jack visit the
Four Seasons, Megève
for an alpine adventure with their three children, Jago, Georgia and Willow.
Four Seasons, Megève
It’s hard to imagine a more picturesque setting than the Alpine village of Megève in France during the snowy season, a perfect setting for a family-friendly mini break with my husband Jack and three children Jago, 12, Georgia, 9 and Willow, 6.
A short flight to Geneva, followed by a winding trip up through the mountains and we are at the
Four Seasons Megève
in no time. The location is hard to beat, positioned near the top of the resort with stunning 360-degree views of Megève. We receive a wonderfully warm welcome at the Four Seasons and are particularly blown away by the balloons and cake in our room to celebrate my son’s birthday.
The Hotel
The hotel underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2019 and welcomes families from all over the world with its cosy atmosphere and delightful staff. Our first stop is an easy lunch at the hotel’s Bar Edmund, which has breathtaking views over the mountains.
Before skiing, we decided to take a couple of days to just enjoy this extraordinary setting, exploring in the snow, having snowball fights and building snowmen, it’s all the kids could ask for. Whilst out and about we meet the dog sledging huskies and see the extraordinary igloo the hotel has built where you can enjoy a private dining experience like no other. Inside the hotel, we enjoy a daily swim in the indoor-outdoor heated pool and the kids love getting donned up in their mini dressing gowns and slippers too.
During Our Trip
Our first evening we dined en famile at the hotel’s Japanese restaurant Kaito. Whilst Jack and I feast on a splendid tasting menu of delicious sushi and Japanese fayre, the children get their own animal-themed chopsticks and beautiful Bento boxes with a perfect helping of chips on the side.
The next day, we venture on a short walk down a scenic path and to the centre of town, famous for its designer shops and excellent restaurants. We enjoy a fabulous horse and cart ride through the cobbled streets and over narrow bridges at dusk, all tucked up under blankets admiring the local architecture. Next stop, the ice rink, which the kids loved, followed by a trip to La Petit Creperie, a tiny restaurant offering every kind of crepe imaginable and Haribo shots for the grown-ups.
Kids Club
Another spoiling evening, the children are fed and entertained in the kid’s club – a mix of kid-friendly arts and crafts and games for the little ones, and space hockey, computer and arcade games for the bigger kids – whilst we enjoy some fine dining at the Michelin-starred La Dame de Pic. Needless to say, the food – all inspired by the glorious surroundings of the hotel – is extraordinary, and the restaurant is just beautiful.
Supreme Ski And Stroll Through Megève Treatment
On our final day, the kids head off for their ski lessons through the brilliant Supreme Ski whilst I find myself enjoying an unbelievably spoiling morning in the spa, for their signature Stroll Through Megève treatment. During a blissful 90 minutes, I have a white pine tree body exfoliation followed by a hydrating pine tree oil massage, and an organic Edelweiss extract facial massage. As if things couldn’t get any better, I then stuffed my face with delicious treats prepared by the pastry chef Jonathan Chapuy in the relaxation room afterwards.
That night we head to a very good local restaurant Spagliari for pizza and pasta, and a few rounds of UNO later, the kids are ready to fall into bed. The following morning, we waved goodbye to the wonderful Four Seasons staff, hoping to see them again one day. Taking in one last dose of that mountain fresh air before heading back to the big smoke, we all feel rested recharged, and ready to get back to real life.
