(WCSC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says it is still looking for a man wanted in a St. Helena Island after discovering his abandoned vehicle on Thursday. Deputies say Tyre Joe Atkins, 21, of St. Helena Island is wanted on the charge of murder in the Wednesday afternoon shooting that killed 20-year-old Ty Haskell Jenkins IV. Earlier on Thursday, deputies released a description of the vehicle they were searching for in connection to Atkins. (Photo from September 2024)(Beaufort County Sheriff's Office) Deputies responded to a report of shots fired at around 4 p.m. Wednesday to the Independence Mobile Home Park on Shanklin Road. When they got there, they said they found Jenkins dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators say they have determined that Atkins was the shooter and obtained the warrant for his arrest. Atkins is described as being 5’10”, weighing around 170 pounds and he is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him is urged to call 911.
