Normal GFR varies according to age, sex, and body size, and declines with age.\n\nThe National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) convened a Task Force in 2021 to focus on [eliminating the use of race when estimating GFR](https:\/\/www.kidney.org\/laboratory-implementation-nkf-asn-task-force-reassessing-inclusion-race-diagnosing-kidney-diseases). Normal GFR varies according to age, sex, and body size, and declines with age. The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) convened a Task Force in 2021 to focus on [eliminating the use of race when estimating GFR](https://www.kidney.org/laboratory-implementation-nkf-asn-task-force-reassessing-inclusion-race-diagnosing-kidney-diseases). The joint NKF/ASN Task Force recommends using the race-free CKD-EPI equations to estimate GFR.
