Child Tax Credit
The 2021 Child Tax Credit is up to $3,600 for each qualifying child.
Eligible families, including families in Puerto Rico, who don't owe taxes to the IRS can claim the credit through April 15, 2025, by filing a federal tax return—even if they don't normally file and have little or no income.
Hiring someone to help with your tax return? Be sure to seek
reputable tax assistance
. Be wary of preparers who promise a larger refund, base their fees on a percentage of the refund, or promise other too-good-to-be-true outcomes.
See the
Advance Child Tax Credit 2021
webpage for the most up-to-date information about the credit and filing information. Families in Puerto Rico can check eligibility rules and find more information at

Eligible families, including families in Puerto Rico, who don't owe taxes to the IRS can claim the credit through April 15, 2025, by filing a federal tax return—even if they don't normally file and have little or no income.
Hiring someone to help with your tax return? Be sure to seek [reputable tax assistance](https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/choosing-a-tax-professional "Choosing a tax professional"). We're offering tax help for individuals, families, businesses, tax-exempt organizations and others – including health plans – affected by coronavirus.
## Child Tax Credit
The 2021 Child Tax Credit is up to \$3,600 for each qualifying child.
Be wary of preparers who promise a larger refund, base their fees on a percentage of the refund, or promise other too-good-to-be-true outcomes.
See the [Advance Child Tax Credit 2021](https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/advance-child-tax-credit-payments-in-2021 "Advance Child Tax Credit payments in 2021") webpage for the most up-to-date information about the credit and filing information. Families in Puerto Rico can check eligibility rules and find more information at [Resources and guidance for Puerto Rico families that may qualify for the Child Tax Credit](https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/resources-and-guidance-for-puerto-rico-families-that-may-qualify-for-the-child-tax-credit "Resources and guidance for Puerto Rico families that may qualify for the Child Tax Credit").
## IRS mission-critical functions continue
We continue to process returns and issue refunds, and we are making progress. Get up-to-date status on affected [IRS operations and services](https://www.irs.gov/help/processing-status-for-tax-forms "Processing status for tax forms").
## Economic impact payments
The IRS has issued all first, second and third economic impact payments.
Most eligible people already received their economic impact payments. People who are missing stimulus payments should review the information on the [Recovery Rebate Credit](https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/recovery-rebate-credit "Recovery Rebate Credit") page to determine their eligibility to claim the credit for tax year 2020 or 2021.
Securely access your [IRS online account](https://www.irs.gov/payments/online-account-for-individuals "Online account for individuals") to view the total of your first, second and third Economic Impact Payment amounts under the Tax Records page. You can no longer use the Get My Payment application to check your payment status.
