Visitors are not required to pay for this declaration so any website which requires a payment is a scam.\n\nIf travelling to or through Singapore, passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended date of departure.\n\nIn general, Irish citizens do not require a visa to enter or transit through Singapore however visitors should not overstay beyond their permission to remain in the country.\n\nTravellers should refer to the following list of [**prohibited items**](https:\/\/www.ica.gov.sg\/enter-transit-depart\/entering-singapore\/what-you-can-bring) that cannot be brought into Singapore.\n\nShort-term visitors to Singapore should have sufficient funds for their stay and may be asked at Immigration to provide details of onward travel.\n\n### **Emergency Assistance**\nWe suggest learning as much as possible about Singapore before before departing from travel agents, tour operators and guide books. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers. The Singaporean Government has put in place extensive measures to combat terrorism and has arrested a number of terrorist suspects.\n\n### **Crime**\nSingapore is a relatively safe city, but take basic safety precautions and be aware of the risk of street crime, particularly bag snatching.\n\n- Do not carry credit cards, travel tickets and money together - leave spare cash and valuables in a safe place\n- Do not carry your passport unless absolutely necessary and leave a copy of it (and travel and insurance documents) with family or friends at home\n### **Reporting a Crime**\nIf a victim of a crime while in Singapore, report it to the local police immediately. Please [**contact us at the Irish Embassy**](https:\/\/www.ireland.ie\/en\/singapore\/embassy\/) if assistance is required.\n\n### **Driving**\nThe rules of the road in Singapore are broadly similar to those in Ireland. Driving is on the left, and the roads are generally good. If involved in an accident, remain at the scene until the police have arrived.\n\nIf you want to drive:\n\n- Bring a full Irish driving licence and an international driving permit and make sure to have adequate and appropriate insurance\n- Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence in Singapore. The traffic police regularly carry out breath tests. Sentences can include a fine or imprisonment.\n- Be aware of Singapore’s traffic laws, such as speed limits\n- Wear seatbelts at all times\n### **Hiring a Vehicle**\nIf hiring a vehicle, we advise not to hand over your passport as a form of security. If allowing your passport to be photocopied, keep it in sight at all times.\n\nCheck that you have adequate insurance and read the small print of the vehicle hire contract (particularly any waiver that will come into effect if the vehicle is damaged).\n\n### **Air Travel**\nThe Singaporean authorities will prosecute cases of air rage within their jurisdiction.\n\n### **Sea Travel**\nThere have been attacks against ships in and around the waters of Singapore and the Malacca Straits. Be vigilant and take appropriate precautions. Reduce opportunities for theft, establish secure areas onboard and report all incidents to the coastal and flag state authorities.\n\n## Health\nHealth services in Singapore are a high standard.\n\n### **Vaccinations**\nBefore travelling, check with a doctor if any vaccinations are required.\n\n### **Medical Insurance**\nBe sure to have comprehensive medical insurance before travel to Singapore, as treatment and medication can be extremely expensive.\n\n### **Face Masks**\nFrom 13 February 2023, face masks are no longer mandatory in most public areas however they must be worn in healthcare settings.\n\n### **Medication**\nSome prescribed and over the counter medicines available in Ireland are considered controlled substances in Singapore. Visitors must apply for prior authorisation and a permit at least ten working days before travel from the Singapore Health Sciences Authority in order to bring any such medication into Singapore. For medicines that do not contain a controlled substance, visitors may bring up to three months’ supply into Singapore without prior approval, but must bring supporting documents such as a letter from a doctor or a copy of the prescription as proof that the medicines are for personal use. If you have questions please email **hsa\\_info@hsa.gov.sg**.\n\n### **Dengue Fever**\nDengue fever is common in Singapore, with 4,000 to 5,000 reported cases every year. Take adequate precautions against being bitten by mosquitoes.\n\n### **Yellow Fever**\nYellow fever vaccination is required for travellers who are arriving from, or have transited through, [**countries with risk of yellow fever transmission**](https:\/\/www.who.int\/health-topics\/yellow-fever#tab=tab_1).\n\n### **Air Pollution**\nSingapore sometimes experiences high levels of air pollution (‘haze’), from land clearance fires in Indonesia. We advise all Irish visitors and residents to monitor the updates and advisories from the [**Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA)**](http:\/\/www.haze.gov.sg\/)\n\n### **Customs Regulations**\nImporting certain controlled drugs and pirated copyright material is prohibited and there are restrictions on entering with items like replica guns, radio communications equipment, and weapons and ammunition (including empty cartridge cases and air guns). For more information visit the [**Singapore Customs website**](https:\/\/www.customs.gov.sg\/).\n\n## Local laws and customs\nRemember, the local laws apply to you as a visitor and it is your responsibility to follow them. Be sensitive to local customs, traditions and practices as your behaviour may be seen as improper, hostile or may even be illegal.\n\n### **Illegal Drugs**\nDo not get involved with drugs of any kind. There are severe penalties for all drug offences in Singapore. Consumption or possession of even very small amounts can lead to imprisonment. Singapore retains the death penalty for drug trafficking.\n\n### **Personal Identification**\nA police permit is required for any outdoor public assembly or procession. Avoid street gatherings and public demonstrations as they might be illegal. Filming an illegal public gathering is also forbidden, as is the wearing or displaying of any ‘cause related’ material without permission.\n\nAlways carry personal identification, as you may be asked to show it during your stay by, for example, the police. We advise visitors to carry photocopies of the relevant pages of your passport and arrival card, and keep the originals in a safe place.\n\n### **E-Cigarettes\/Vapes**\nIrish citizens living in, travelling to or transiting Singapore are reminded that **all vaping is illegal in Singapore**. As of 1 September 2025, stricter enforcement arrangements and penalties are in place for anyone possessing, purchasing or using an e-vaporiser. Further information on measures by the Singapore Government is available at the link below:\n\n[Stop Vaping \\| gov.sg](https:\/\/www.gov.sg\/stopvaping#27df0b102749340f569a4780a8d4ab3f)\n\n### **Criminal Offences**\nDrunk and disorderly conduct is a serious offence in Singapore. Convicted offenders could face fines, imprisonment and\/or corporal punishment, depending on the severity of the crime.\n\nIf the subject of an investigation, your passport will be confiscated by the authorities and will only be returned once the investigation has concluded. Normally, you will not be permitted to travel during this time. Be aware that investigations can take anywhere from a few days to several months.\n\n### **Outrage of Modesty**\nA wide range of offences, including ‘outrage of modesty’ (inappropriate behaviour by men towards women) and vandalism carry corporal punishment (the rattan cane).\n\n‘Outrage of modesty’ (molestation) can result in a fine, imprisonment jail or corporal punishment. Avoid any action that could be interpreted as molestation. Scams involving false claims of molestation are thought to exist. Usually once the complaint is made by the victim and the accused is arrested the police will not allow the accused person to travel and their passport will be confiscated while investigations are carried out. This can take several months.\n\n### **Other Criminal Offences**\nApproval from the Ministry of Manpower is required for a foreign national to give a talk on ‘racial, communal, religious, caused-related or political topics’.\n\nThe public display of national flags or national emblems is illegal except where a specific exemption has been granted.\n\nPenalties for overstaying visas include fines, imprisonment, corporal punishment (the rattan cane) and deportation depending on the length of overstay.\n\nBoth public and private Jehovah’s Witness meetings are illegal in Singapore. It is also against the law to possess any Jehovah’s Witness publication, including a Jehovah’s Witness bible. Similar measures exist against the Unification Church.\n\nOn-the-spot fines are common, and can be given for a wide range of behaviours which are tolerated in Ireland. Visitors will be fined for smoking in any public place or indoor restaurant, for chewing gum on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system or littering. It is also illegal to bring chewing gum into the country.\n\nThorough checks may be carried out on departing travellers’ vehicles and fingerprints may be scanned at border exit points.\n\nThe use of false ID is illegal.\n\nThere is zero tolerance for bribery. Any attempt to bribe or to otherwise prevent an official from carrying out their duties can result in arrest.\n\n## Natural disasters and climate\n### **Practical Advice**\nIf travelling to Singapore, make sure you know what to expect then plan and pack so that you are prepared.\n\nGet local advice on how to manage in the case of a serious incident or dangerous conditions.\n\nCo-operate with local authorities and emergency services in the case of serious incidents.\n\n## Entry requirements\n### **Visa\/Passport**\nYou do not normally need a visa to enter Singapore for stays of up to 30 days for tourism, business discussions or social visits.\n\nIf travelling to or through Singapore, passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended date of departure.\n\nIf unsure of the entry requirements for Singapore, including visa and other immigration information, ask your travel agent or contact the nearest [**Embassy or Consulate**](https:\/\/www.ireland.ie\/en\/dfa\/embassies-in-ireland\/) of Singapore.\n\n## Embassy contact\nIf emergency assistance is required from the Embassy, please contact us on +65 6238 7616. Visitors are not required to pay for this declaration so any website which requires a payment is a scam. If travelling to or through Singapore, passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended date of departure. In general, Irish citizens do not require a visa to enter or transit through Singapore however visitors should not overstay beyond their permission to remain in the country. Travellers should refer to the following list of [**prohibited items**](https://www.ica.gov.sg/enter-transit-depart/entering-singapore/what-you-can-bring) that cannot be brought into Singapore. Short-term visitors to Singapore should have sufficient funds for their stay and may be asked at Immigration to provide details of onward travel. ### **Emergency Assistance** We suggest learning as much as possible about Singapore before before departing from travel agents, tour operators and guide books. The best help is often close at hand so if problems arise try talking to local contacts, tour operator representative or hotel management. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers. The Singaporean Government has put in place extensive measures to combat terrorism and has arrested a number of terrorist suspects. ### **Crime** Singapore is a relatively safe city, but take basic safety precautions and be aware of the risk of street crime, particularly bag snatching. - Do not carry credit cards, travel tickets and money together - leave spare cash and valuables in a safe place - Do not carry your passport unless absolutely necessary and leave a copy of it (and travel and insurance documents) with family or friends at home ### **Reporting a Crime** If a victim of a crime while in Singapore, report it to the local police immediately. Driving is on the left, and the roads are generally good. If involved in an accident, remain at the scene until the police have arrived. If you want to drive: - Bring a full Irish driving licence and an international driving permit and make sure to have adequate and appropriate insurance - Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence in Singapore. The traffic police regularly carry out breath tests. Sentences can include a fine or imprisonment. - Be aware of Singapore’s traffic laws, such as speed limits - Wear seatbelts at all times ### **Hiring a Vehicle** If hiring a vehicle, we advise not to hand over your passport as a form of security. If allowing your passport to be photocopied, keep it in sight at all times. Check that you have adequate insurance and read the small print of the vehicle hire contract (particularly any waiver that will come into effect if the vehicle is damaged). ### **Air Travel** The Singaporean authorities will prosecute cases of air rage within their jurisdiction. ### **Sea Travel** There have been attacks against ships in and around the waters of Singapore and the Malacca Straits. Be vigilant and take appropriate precautions. Reduce opportunities for theft, establish secure areas onboard and report all incidents to the coastal and flag state authorities. ## Health Health services in Singapore are a high standard. ### **Vaccinations** Before travelling, check with a doctor if any vaccinations are required. ### **Medical Insurance** Be sure to have comprehensive medical insurance before travel to Singapore, as treatment and medication can be extremely expensive. ### **Face Masks** From 13 February 2023, face masks are no longer mandatory in most public areas however they must be worn in healthcare settings. ### **Medication** Some prescribed and over the counter medicines available in Ireland are considered controlled substances in Singapore. Visitors must apply for prior authorisation and a permit at least ten working days before travel from the Singapore Health Sciences Authority in order to bring any such medication into Singapore. For medicines that do not contain a controlled substance, visitors may bring up to three months’ supply into Singapore without prior approval, but must bring supporting documents such as a letter from a doctor or a copy of the prescription as proof that the medicines are for personal use. If you have questions please email **hsa\_info@hsa.gov.sg**. ### **Dengue Fever** Dengue fever is common in Singapore, with 4,000 to 5,000 reported cases every year. Take adequate precautions against being bitten by mosquitoes. ### **Yellow Fever** Yellow fever vaccination is required for travellers who are arriving from, or have transited through, [**countries with risk of yellow fever transmission**](https://www.who.int/health-topics/yellow-fever#tab=tab_1). ### **Air Pollution** Singapore sometimes experiences high levels of air pollution (‘haze’), from land clearance fires in Indonesia. We advise all Irish visitors and residents to monitor the updates and advisories from the [**Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA)**](http://www.haze.gov.sg/) ### **Customs Regulations** Importing certain controlled drugs and pirated copyright material is prohibited and there are restrictions on entering with items like replica guns, radio communications equipment, and weapons and ammunition (including empty cartridge cases and air guns). For more information visit the [**Singapore Customs website**](https://www.customs.gov.sg/). ## Local laws and customs Remember, the local laws apply to you as a visitor and it is your responsibility to follow them. Be sensitive to local customs, traditions and practices as your behaviour may be seen as improper, hostile or may even be illegal. ### **Illegal Drugs** Do not get involved with drugs of any kind. There are severe penalties for all drug offences in Singapore. Consumption or possession of even very small amounts can lead to imprisonment. Singapore retains the death penalty for drug trafficking. ### **Personal Identification** A police permit is required for any outdoor public assembly or procession. Avoid street gatherings and public demonstrations as they might be illegal. Filming an illegal public gathering is also forbidden, as is the wearing or displaying of any ‘cause related’ material without permission. Always carry personal identification, as you may be asked to show it during your stay by, for example, the police. We advise visitors to carry photocopies of the relevant pages of your passport and arrival card, and keep the originals in a safe place. ### **E-Cigarettes/Vapes** Irish citizens living in, travelling to or transiting Singapore are reminded that **all vaping is illegal in Singapore**. As of 1 September 2025, stricter enforcement arrangements and penalties are in place for anyone possessing, purchasing or using an e-vaporiser. Convicted offenders could face fines, imprisonment and/or corporal punishment, depending on the severity of the crime. If the subject of an investigation, your passport will be confiscated by the authorities and will only be returned once the investigation has concluded. Normally, you will not be permitted to travel during this time. Be aware that investigations can take anywhere from a few days to several months. ### **Outrage of Modesty** A wide range of offences, including ‘outrage of modesty’ (inappropriate behaviour by men towards women) and vandalism carry corporal punishment (the rattan cane). ‘Outrage of modesty’ (molestation) can result in a fine, imprisonment jail or corporal punishment. Avoid any action that could be interpreted as molestation. Scams involving false claims of molestation are thought to exist. Usually once the complaint is made by the victim and the accused is arrested the police will not allow the accused person to travel and their passport will be confiscated while investigations are carried out. This can take several months. ### **Other Criminal Offences** Approval from the Ministry of Manpower is required for a foreign national to give a talk on ‘racial, communal, religious, caused-related or political topics’. The public display of national flags or national emblems is illegal except where a specific exemption has been granted. Penalties for overstaying visas include fines, imprisonment, corporal punishment (the rattan cane) and deportation depending on the length of overstay. Both public and private Jehovah’s Witness meetings are illegal in Singapore. It is also against the law to possess any Jehovah’s Witness publication, including a Jehovah’s Witness bible. Similar measures exist against the Unification Church. On-the-spot fines are common, and can be given for a wide range of behaviours which are tolerated in Ireland. Visitors will be fined for smoking in any public place or indoor restaurant, for chewing gum on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system or littering. It is also illegal to bring chewing gum into the country. Thorough checks may be carried out on departing travellers’ vehicles and fingerprints may be scanned at border exit points. The use of false ID is illegal. There is zero tolerance for bribery. Any attempt to bribe or to otherwise prevent an official from carrying out their duties can result in arrest. ## Natural disasters and climate ### **Practical Advice** If travelling to Singapore, make sure you know what to expect then plan and pack so that you are prepared. Get local advice on how to manage in the case of a serious incident or dangerous conditions. Co-operate with local authorities and emergency services in the case of serious incidents. ## Entry requirements ### **Visa/Passport** You do not normally need a visa to enter Singapore for stays of up to 30 days for tourism, business discussions or social visits. If travelling to or through Singapore, passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended date of departure.
