Its unit share of the server CPU market rose to 27.2% in Q1 from 23.6% in the same quarter last year.\nIn artificial intelligence, AMD and Nvidia both scored business from a\nsovereign AI data center project in Saudi Arabia\non May 13.\nThe next day, AMD announced a new $6 billion share buyback program, boosting its total repurchase authority to about $10 billion. AMD shifted to a fabless semiconductor business in March 2009 by spinning off its factories as\nGlobalFoundries\n(\nGFS\n).\nChip foundry\nTaiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing\n(\nTSM\n) now produces AMD's chips.\nCurrent Chief Executive Lisa Su took the reins in October 2014. She shepherded the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company into a new era with its Ryzen PC processors and Epyc server chips in 2017.\nUnder her supervision, AMD jumped ahead of Intel in making CPUs at smaller node sizes, giving its products an edge in speed and performance. AMD is now developing chips at 3-nanometer scale. Circuit widths on chips are measured in nanometers, which are one-billionth of a meter.\nAMD also is focused on providing an alternative to Nvidia in AI accelerators with its Instinct product line.\nData Center-Related Acquisitions\nSu also has overseen several big acquisitions. In February 2022,\nAMD purchased Xilinx\nin a deal worth $49 billion. The acquisition allowed AMD to expand its presence in the data center market with specialty chips from Xilinx.\nIn May 2022, AMD bought distributed computing startup\nPensando Systems\nfor $1.9 billion. The deal further enhanced AMD's data center capabilities.\nLast August,\nAMD acquired Silo AI\n, the largest private artificial intelligence lab in Europe, for $665 million. Silo AI has developed tailored AI models, platforms and solutions for leading enterprises spanning cloud, embedded and endpoint computing markets.\nOn March 31, AMD completed its purchase of\nZT Systems\nfor $4.9 billion in a move to better compete with AI systems leader Nvidia. And on\nMay 19\n, AMD announced a deal to sell ZT's manufacturing business to\nSanmina\n(\nSANM\n) for $3 billion in cash and stock. AMD is keeping ZT's systems design business.\nAdvanced Micro Devices News\nOn May 21, AMD introduced its\nlatest processors\nfor AI-powered PCs and workstations at the Computex trade show in Taiwan. It also announced a strengthened partnership with Taiwan-based PC maker Asus.\nAt\nCES 2025\n, AMD revealed an expanded lineup of Ryzen processors for AI PCs for consumers and commercial users. It also announced that\nDell Technologies\n(\nDELL\n) would be adding AMD Ryzen-powered PCs to its commercial PC portfolio for the first time.\nNext up for AMD is the company's\nAdvancing AI\nevent, scheduled for June 12.\nAMD Stock Fundamental Analysis\nOn April 8, AMD stock dropped to a nearly two-year low of 76.48 after President Donald Trump announced his\nLiberation Day tariffs\n.\nBut AMD stock climbed after the company posted\nfirst-quarter results\nthat edged above Wall Street's target for earnings on better-than-expected sales.\nLate on May 6, AMD said it earned an adjusted 96 cents a share on sales of $7.44 billion in the March quarter. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected earnings of 94 cents a share on sales of $7.12 billion. On a year-over-year basis, AMD earnings jumped 55% while sales increased 36%.\nFor the current quarter, AMD predicted sales of $7.4 billion. Wall Street had been modeling $7.22 billion for the second quarter. Meanwhile, AMD is trying to dent Nvidia's lead in AI accelerators.\n\nAMD's unit share of PC processor sales was 24.1% in the first quarter, up from 20.6% in the year-earlier period, according to [Mercury Research](https:\/\/wccftech.com\/amd-record-server-revenue-share-x86-desktop-cpu-market-share-grows\/). Its unit share of the server CPU market rose to 27.2% in Q1 from 23.6% in the same quarter last year.\n\nIn artificial intelligence, AMD and Nvidia both scored business from a [sovereign AI data center project in Saudi Arabia](https:\/\/www.investors.com\/news\/technology\/ai-stocks-saudi-deals-nvidia-amd-supermicro\/) on May 13.\n\nThe next day, AMD announced a new \\$6 billion share buyback program, boosting its total repurchase authority to about \\$10 billion. AMD stock jumped on the news.\n\n## CEO Lisa Su Making Changes\nFounded in May 1969, AMD went public in September 1972. AMD shifted to a fabless semiconductor business in March 2009 by spinning off its factories as **GlobalFoundries** ([GFS](https:\/\/research.investors.com\/quote.aspx?symbol=GFS)).\n\nChip foundry **Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing** ([TSM](https:\/\/research.investors.com\/quote.aspx?symbol=TSM)) now produces AMD's chips.\n\nCurrent Chief Executive Lisa Su took the reins in October 2014. She shepherded the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company into a new era with its Ryzen PC processors and Epyc server chips in 2017.\n\nUnder her supervision, AMD jumped ahead of Intel in making CPUs at smaller node sizes, giving its products an edge in speed and performance. AMD is now developing chips at 3-nanometer scale. Circuit widths on chips are measured in nanometers, which are one-billionth of a meter.\n\nAMD also is focused on providing an alternative to Nvidia in AI accelerators with its Instinct product line.\n\n## Data Center-Related Acquisitions\nSu also has overseen several big acquisitions. In February 2022, [AMD purchased Xilinx](https:\/\/www.investors.com\/news\/technology\/amd-stock-rises-as-chipmaker-completes-xilinx-acquisition\/) in a deal worth \\$49 billion. The acquisition allowed AMD to expand its presence in the data center market with specialty chips from Xilinx.\n\nIn May 2022, AMD bought distributed computing startup [Pensando Systems](https:\/\/ir.amd.com\/news-events\/press-releases\/detail\/1071\/amd-expands-data-center-solutions-capabilities-with) for \\$1.9 billion. The deal further enhanced AMD's data center capabilities.\n\nLast August, [AMD acquired Silo AI](https:\/\/www.amd.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2024-8-12-amd-completes-acquisition-of-silo-ai-to-accelerate.html), the largest private artificial intelligence lab in Europe, for \\$665 million. Silo AI has developed tailored AI models, platforms and solutions for leading enterprises spanning cloud, embedded and endpoint computing markets.\n\nOn March 31, AMD completed its purchase of [ZT Systems](https:\/\/www.amd.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2025-3-31-amd-completes-acquisition-of-zt-systems.html) for \\$4.9 billion in a move to better compete with AI systems leader Nvidia. And on [May 19](https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/news-release\/2025\/05\/19\/3083916\/0\/en\/AMD-Announces-Agreement-to-Divest-ZT-Systems-Data-Center-Infrastructure-Manufacturing-Business-to-Sanmina.html), AMD announced a deal to sell ZT's manufacturing business to **Sanmina** ([SANM](https:\/\/research.investors.com\/quote.aspx?symbol=SANM)) for \\$3 billion in cash and stock. AMD is keeping ZT's systems design business.\n\n## Advanced Micro Devices News\nOn May 21, AMD introduced its [latest processors](https:\/\/www.investors.com\/news\/technology\/amd-stock-intel-computex-2025-news\/) for AI-powered PCs and workstations at the Computex trade show in Taiwan. It also announced a strengthened partnership with Taiwan-based PC maker Asus.\n\nAt [CES 2025](https:\/\/www.investors.com\/news\/technology\/amd-stock-chipmaker-reveals-new-ai-pc-chips-ces-2025\/), AMD revealed an expanded lineup of Ryzen processors for AI PCs for consumers and commercial users. With the moves, investors might be wondering: Is AMD stock a buy right now? AMD competes with Intel in making central processing units, or CPUs, for personal computers and servers. Try Mike Webster's Weekend Watchlist Routine To Find Out Analysts say AMD is benefiting from Intel's business problems. Meanwhile, AMD is trying to dent Nvidia's lead in AI accelerators. AMD's unit share of PC processor sales was 24.1% in the first quarter, up from 20.6% in the year-earlier period, according to [Mercury Research](https://wccftech.com/amd-record-server-revenue-share-x86-desktop-cpu-market-share-grows/). Its unit share of the server CPU market rose to 27.2% in Q1 from 23.6% in the same quarter last year. In artificial intelligence, AMD and Nvidia both scored business from a [sovereign AI data center project in Saudi Arabia](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/ai-stocks-saudi-deals-nvidia-amd-supermicro/) on May 13. The next day, AMD announced a new \$6 billion share buyback program, boosting its total repurchase authority to about \$10 billion. AMD stock jumped on the news. ## CEO Lisa Su Making Changes Founded in May 1969, AMD went public in September 1972. AMD shifted to a fabless semiconductor business in March 2009 by spinning off its factories as GlobalFoundries ([GFS](https://research.investors.com/quote.aspx?symbol=GFS)). Chip foundry Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing ([TSM](https://research.investors.com/quote.aspx?symbol=TSM)) now produces AMD's chips. Current Chief Executive Lisa Su took the reins in October 2014. She shepherded the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company into a new era with its Ryzen PC processors and Epyc server chips in 2017. Under her supervision, AMD jumped ahead of Intel in making CPUs at smaller node sizes, giving its products an edge in speed and performance. AMD is now developing chips at 3-nanometer scale. Circuit widths on chips are measured in nanometers, which are one-billionth of a meter. AMD also is focused on providing an alternative to Nvidia in AI accelerators with its Instinct product line. ## Data Center-Related Acquisitions Su also has overseen several big acquisitions. In February 2022, [AMD purchased Xilinx](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/amd-stock-rises-as-chipmaker-completes-xilinx-acquisition/) in a deal worth \$49 billion. The acquisition allowed AMD to expand its presence in the data center market with specialty chips from Xilinx. In May 2022, AMD bought distributed computing startup [Pensando Systems](https://ir.amd.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/1071/amd-expands-data-center-solutions-capabilities-with) for \$1.9 billion. The deal further enhanced AMD's data center capabilities. Last August, [AMD acquired Silo AI](https://www.amd.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2024-8-12-amd-completes-acquisition-of-silo-ai-to-accelerate.html), the largest private artificial intelligence lab in Europe, for \$665 million. Silo AI has developed tailored AI models, platforms and solutions for leading enterprises spanning cloud, embedded and endpoint computing markets. On March 31, AMD completed its purchase of [ZT Systems](https://www.amd.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2025-3-31-amd-completes-acquisition-of-zt-systems.html) for \$4.9 billion in a move to better compete with AI systems leader Nvidia. And on [May 19](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2025/05/19/3083916/0/en/AMD-Announces-Agreement-to-Divest-ZT-Systems-Data-Center-Infrastructure-Manufacturing-Business-to-Sanmina.html), AMD announced a deal to sell ZT's manufacturing business to Sanmina ([SANM](https://research.investors.com/quote.aspx?symbol=SANM)) for \$3 billion in cash and stock. AMD is keeping ZT's systems design business. ## Advanced Micro Devices News On May 21, AMD introduced its [latest processors](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/amd-stock-intel-computex-2025-news/) for AI-powered PCs and workstations at the Computex trade show in Taiwan. It also announced a strengthened partnership with Taiwan-based PC maker Asus. At [CES 2025](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/amd-stock-chipmaker-reveals-new-ai-pc-chips-ces-2025/), AMD revealed an expanded lineup of Ryzen processors for AI PCs for consumers and commercial users. It also announced that Dell Technologies** ([DELL](https://research.investors.com/quote.aspx?symbol=DELL)) would be adding AMD Ryzen-powered PCs to its commercial PC portfolio for the first time. Next up for AMD is the company's [Advancing AI](https://www.amd.com/en/corporate/events/advancing-ai.html) event, scheduled for June 12. ## AMD Stock Fundamental Analysis On April 8, AMD stock dropped to a nearly two-year low of 76.48 after President Donald Trump announced his [Liberation Day tariffs](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/nvidia-stock-trump-tariffs-semiconductor-stocks/). But AMD stock climbed after the company posted [first-quarter results](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/amd-stock-q1-2025-earnings-advanced-micro-devices/) that edged above Wall Street's target for earnings on better-than-expected sales. Late on May 6, AMD said it earned an adjusted 96 cents a share on sales of \$7.44 billion in the March quarter. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected earnings of 94 cents a share on sales of \$7.12 billion. On a year-over-year basis, AMD earnings jumped 55% while sales increased 36%. For the current quarter, AMD predicted sales of \$7.4 billion. Wall Street had been modeling \$7.22 billion for the second quarter. In the year-earlier period, AMD generated revenue of \$5.84 billion. ## AMD Stock Technical Analysis Year to date through Tuesday's close, AMD stock is down 5.2%. Advanced Micro Devices shares ended the regular trading session Tuesday at 114.56. With the moves, investors might be wondering: Is AMD stock a buy right now? AMD competes with Intel in making central processing units, or CPUs, for personal computers and servers. It also rivals Nvidia in the market for graphics processing units, or GPUs, for PCs, gaming consoles and artificial intelligence data centers. ↑ X NOW PLAYING What Stocks Should You Be Buying? Try Mike Webster's Weekend Watchlist Routine To Find Out Analysts say AMD is benefiting from Intel's business problems. Meanwhile, AMD is trying to dent Nvidia's lead in AI accelerators. AMD's unit share of PC processor sales was 24.1% in the first quarter, up from 20.6% in the year-earlier period, according to [Mercury Research](https://wccftech.com/amd-record-server-revenue-share-x86-desktop-cpu-market-share-grows/). Its unit share of the server CPU market rose to 27.2% in Q1 from 23.6% in the same quarter last year. In artificial intelligence, AMD and Nvidia both scored business from a [sovereign AI data center project in Saudi Arabia](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/ai-stocks-saudi-deals-nvidia-amd-supermicro/) on May 13. The next day, AMD announced a new \$6 billion share buyback program, boosting its total repurchase authority to about \$10 billion. AMD stock jumped on the news. ## CEO Lisa Su Making Changes Founded in May 1969, AMD went public in September 1972. AMD shifted to a fabless semiconductor business in March 2009 by spinning off its factories as GlobalFoundries ([GFS](https://research.investors.com/quote.aspx?symbol=GFS)). Chip foundry Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing ([TSM](https://research.investors.com/quote.aspx?symbol=TSM)) now produces AMD's chips. Current Chief Executive Lisa Su took the reins in October 2014. She shepherded the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company into a new era with its Ryzen PC processors and Epyc server chips in 2017. Under her supervision, AMD jumped ahead of Intel in making CPUs at smaller node sizes, giving its products an edge in speed and performance. AMD is now developing chips at 3-nanometer scale. Circuit widths on chips are measured in nanometers, which are one-billionth of a meter. AMD also is focused on providing an alternative to Nvidia in AI accelerators with its Instinct product line. ## Data Center-Related Acquisitions Su also has overseen several big acquisitions. In February 2022, [AMD purchased Xilinx](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/amd-stock-rises-as-chipmaker-completes-xilinx-acquisition/) in a deal worth \$49 billion. The acquisition allowed AMD to expand its presence in the data center market with specialty chips from Xilinx. In May 2022, AMD bought distributed computing startup [Pensando Systems](https://ir.amd.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/1071/amd-expands-data-center-solutions-capabilities-with) for \$1.9 billion. The deal further enhanced AMD's data center capabilities. Last August, [AMD acquired Silo AI](https://www.amd.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2024-8-12-amd-completes-acquisition-of-silo-ai-to-accelerate.html), the largest private artificial intelligence lab in Europe, for \$665 million. Silo AI has developed tailored AI models, platforms and solutions for leading enterprises spanning cloud, embedded and endpoint computing markets. On March 31, AMD completed its purchase of [ZT Systems](https://www.amd.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2025-3-31-amd-completes-acquisition-of-zt-systems.html) for \$4.9 billion in a move to better compete with AI systems leader Nvidia. And on [May 19](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2025/05/19/3083916/0/en/AMD-Announces-Agreement-to-Divest-ZT-Systems-Data-Center-Infrastructure-Manufacturing-Business-to-Sanmina.html), AMD announced a deal to sell ZT's manufacturing business to Sanmina ([SANM](https://research.investors.com/quote.aspx?symbol=SANM)) for \$3 billion in cash and stock. AMD is keeping ZT's systems design business. ## Advanced Micro Devices News On May 21, AMD introduced its [latest processors](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/amd-stock-intel-computex-2025-news/) for AI-powered PCs and workstations at the Computex trade show in Taiwan. It also announced a strengthened partnership with Taiwan-based PC maker Asus. At [CES 2025](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/amd-stock-chipmaker-reveals-new-ai-pc-chips-ces-2025/), AMD revealed an expanded lineup of Ryzen processors for AI PCs for consumers and commercial users. It also announced that Dell Technologies ([DELL](https://research.investors.com/quote.aspx?symbol=DELL)) would be adding AMD Ryzen-powered PCs to its commercial PC portfolio for the first time. Next up for AMD is the company's [Advancing AI](https://www.amd.com/en/corporate/events/advancing-ai.html) event, scheduled for June 12. ## AMD Stock Fundamental Analysis On April 8, AMD stock dropped to a nearly two-year low of 76.48 after President Donald Trump announced his [Liberation Day tariffs](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/nvidia-stock-trump-tariffs-semiconductor-stocks/). But AMD stock climbed after the company posted [first-quarter results](https://www.investors.com/news/technology/amd-stock-q1-2025-earnings-advanced-micro-devices/) that edged above Wall Street's target for earnings on better-than-expected sales. Late on May 6, AMD said it earned an adjusted 96 cents a share on sales of \$7.44 billion in the March quarter. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected earnings of 94 cents a share on sales of \$7.12 billion. On a year-over-year basis, AMD earnings jumped 55% while sales increased 36%. For the current quarter, AMD predicted sales of \$7.4 billion. Wall Street had been modeling \$7.22 billion for the second quarter. In the year-earlier period, AMD generated revenue of \$5.84 billion. ## AMD Stock Technical Analysis Year to date through Tuesday's close, AMD stock is down 5.2%. Advanced Micro Devices shares ended the regular trading session Tuesday at 114.56.
