Overall, China and Russia/ROC collected the most medals in gymnastics, 8 each, followed by the United States with six, and Japan with five.
By medal count China was the most successful country in the menâs competition, while the U.S. topped the field on the womenâs side, both collecting six medals, two of each color.
China earned the most gold medals, 3, (rings, parallel bars and balance beam). Russia, Japan and the U.S. all left this Olympics with two gold medals each.
On the menâs side, the most golden country was China with two gold medals (
Liu Yang,
rings and
Zou Jingyuan
, parallel bars), while on the womenâs side it was the U.S. also with two (

Suni Lee (USA) was the most successful female gymnast at the Tokyo Olympics earning a full set of medals
In a history making Olympic Games, we witnessed a fair share of surprises, but we also saw a continuation of dominance by the top countries on both the menâs and womenâs side. Here we break down the medal count for the top countries and a few of the main historic moments from the Tokyo Olympics.
Overall, China and Russia/ROC collected the most medals in gymnastics, 8 each, followed by the United States with six, and Japan with five.
By medal count China was the most successful country in the menâs competition, while the U.S. topped the field on the womenâs side, both collecting six medals, two of each color.
China earned the most gold medals, 3, (rings, parallel bars and balance beam). Russia, Japan and the U.S. all left this Olympics with two gold medals each.
On the menâs side, the most golden country was China with two gold medals (**Liu Yang,** rings and **Zou Jingyuan**, parallel bars), while on the womenâs side it was the U.S. also with two (**Sunisa Lee**, all-around and **Jade Carey**, floor).
