What the trek to Everest Base Camp involves
It’s easy to understand why an Everest Base Camp hike is a bucket list item for many.
One of the most adventurous, challenging, but rewarding treks in the world, this trail offers phenomenal mountain landscapes and incredible insights into the lives of Sherpas and others in the Khumbu Region.
And who better to show you all this than Sherpas themselves? Elite Exped is entirely Nepalese-run, with our record-breaking directors Nimsdai, Mingma David Sherpa, and Mingma Tenzi priding themselves on their ability to bridge the gap between Western and Himalayan climbing cultures, offering the best of both worlds.
Elite Exped’s Everest Base Camp climb follows an expedition plan that our leaders have set out. After exploring the shrines, temples, bazaars and restaurants of Kathmandu, we take a flight to Lukla, a gateway to Everest.
Then, we walk up to the Dudh Kosi Valley, surrounded by the magnificent peaks of Kusum Kanguru and Thamserku. We make the steep ascent to Namche Bazaar, the capital of the Khumbu Sherpas, where we spend a day acclimatising and sightseeing.
From there, we follow the trails to Tengboche, located high on a ridge, which provides one of the most spectacular 360-degree mountain panoramas anywhere on the planet. You can see Everest, the Lhotse-Nuptse Wall, Ama Dablam and Kantega. We pass through Buddhist monasteries and past ancient shrines, with the massive bulk of Mount Everest itself looming ever closer. From Kala Patthar at 5,643m, you’ll get an incredible vista of the world’s most famous mountain, before we head to base camp.
Our return journey takes us through Dingboche, Phortse and Khumjung, before we part ways in Kathmandu, 16 days and a whole lifetime’s worth of experiences later.

The following frequently asked questions may help answer any queries you have about Elite Exped, what our Everest Base Camp hikes involve, and what is required.
If your question isn’t answered here then please check our dedicated [FAQ support page](https://www.eliteexped.com/faq) — otherwise don’t hesitate to [get in touch](https://www.eliteexped.com/general-enquiry).
What skillset and fitness level are required?
All Elite Exped expeditions — including our Everest Base Camp climbs — are within extreme high-altitude environments, with differing requirements for ability.
Due to the nature of these operational landscapes, you must provide concise, honest descriptions of relevant experience and current fitness levels. Upon receipt, we will review your experience and respond accordingly. If we consider there to be any shortfalls at this point, then we can collectively discuss the opportunities and/or provide a training support plan to achieve your goals.
What accommodation is included?
All accommodation is included from the initial meeting point through to the end of the expedition. We always choose the highest quality hotels, even when travelling through more remote areas with less established infrastructures.
Our base camp accommodation is also of the highest quality and comfort and can be completely tailored to the demands of different global lifestyles. We can discuss options and your needs during the booking phase.
What equipment is provided?
All communal equipment is included, such as high-quality ropes, stoves and tents.
You are responsible for personal gear and clothing, however, such as harnesses, crampons, helmets and ice axes. Access the gearl list now by downloading it [here](https://elite-exped.cdn.prismic.io/elite-exped/ZsXHhkaF0TcGJKeD_TrekkingGearGuide-1-.pdf)**.**
Will the expedition cost include travel?
We will cover all transport costs detailed within an expedition programme, excluding international flights to and from the destination countries. It is your responsibility to ensure these align with the start and finish of the expedition.
Trekking at high altitude requires hard physical effort — you will need exceptional cardiovascular fitness and to be thoroughly prepared. When you sign up, we’ll ask you to share key performance data and look closely at your past experience. We’ll then work with you to develop an appropriate training program, which will guarantee you the best chance of success.
If you notice obvious shortfalls at this point, we can collectively discuss the opportunities and/or provide a training support plan to ensure that you achieve your objective.
The adventurous activities undertaken by Elite Exped requires the purchase of specialist equipment.
We will provide a full kit list for this expedition during booking, which you can access now [here](https://elite-exped.cdn.prismic.io/elite-exped/546f0f97-9f65-48ab-9230-830b1dd507ca_Trekking+Gear+check+list.pdf).
You may pay your deposit and balance using any lawful means. If sending money by electronic bank transfer, you will be responsible for covering the cost of the fees associated so that we receive the full amount owed.
In case the client decides to cancel their trip at any time between the booking and the time of the trip, some deduction will be made to the advance amount. This is due to the company’s obligation to pay a certain amount for personnel and resources while booking them.
The following cancellation charges will apply if you decide to cancel the booking:
- Cancellations made 90 days or before are entitled to a full deposit return if it has been paid in advance. After this, you will lose 30% of the deposit paid.
- Cancellations made 60 days before the departure date will incur a loss of 50% of the deposit paid.

### What the trek to Everest Base Camp involves
