Toshiba has expanded its
protection portfolio
with a series of 40V devices aimed at safeguarding power lines in industrial and consumer systems. The additions target applications ranging from factory automation equipment to household robots, where board space and reliability remain key design constraints.

The 40V eFuse ICs, branded as the

According to Toshiba
, the devices provide short-circuit protection similar to traditional glass tube or chip fuses, while also integrating current limiting and overvoltage protection.
This integration is intended to help protect downstream ICs from excessive current or voltage during fault conditions. The devices also incorporate thermal shutdown, which switches off the eFuse if abnormal heat or an unexpected short circuit is detected.
The series is rated at 40V and supports an input voltage range from 3.3V to 30V, covering common 5V, 9V, 12V and 24V rails. Typical target applications include robots and PLCs on the industrial side, as well as consumer products such as robotic vacuum cleaners and copiers.
Compact TSOP6F package and configurable protection modes
All five variants in the TCKE6 family are housed in a TSOP6F package measuring approximately 2.9mm by 2.8mm, with a typical height of 0.8mm. For designers working with dense multilayer boards, this footprint could support thinner and more compact layouts.
Toshiba highlights a low on-resistance to help limit power dissipation during normal operation, and a fast short-circuit response time to potentially improve system robustness.
