For our way up we drove the entire length of the gorgeous Blue Ridge Parkway. The car handled the curvy road with aplomb, and was a joy for both driver and passenger. The 45 mph speed limit on the BRP was ideal for the car, and so for our first 1,200 miles we averaged just over 55 mpg (for a few long stretches we …\nwere averaging in the 60s). On our way back we took the freeway and cruised at 78 mph for 1,000 miles (and were loaded with some of our son's possessions to help with his move; the car holds a lot), which brought our overall fuel economy average for the trip (2,036 miles) down to 51.8 mpg. One of the funnier moments of the whole adventure was a lunch stop in rural Tennessee, where we met the only other Elantra Hybrid we've seen since our purchase a few months ago (same for him). For our way up we drove the entire length of the gorgeous Blue Ridge Parkway. The car handled the curvy road with aplomb, and was a joy for both driver and passenger. The 45 mph speed limit on the BRP was ideal for the car, and so for our first 1,200 miles we averaged just over 55 mpg (for a few long stretches we … were averaging in the 60s). On our way back we took the freeway and cruised at 78 mph for 1,000 miles (and were loaded with some of our son's possessions to help with his move; the car holds a lot), which brought our overall fuel economy average for the trip (2,036 miles) down to 51.8 mpg. One of the funnier moments of the whole adventure was a lunch stop in rural Tennessee, where we met the only other Elantra Hybrid we've seen since our purchase a few months ago (same for him).
