Side Effects Print Save # Melatonin Side Effects Applies to melatonin: oral capsule, oral disintegrating strip, oral liquid, oral solution, oral tablet, oral tablet chewable, oral tablet chewable extended release, oral tablet disintegrating, oral tablet extended release, oral transmucosal lozenge, sublingual tablet. ## Important warnings This medicine can cause some serious health issues Follow all directions on the product label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use. Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Although not all side effects are known, melatonin is thought to be possibly safe when taken for a short period of time (for up to 2 years in certain people). Common side effects may include: - dizziness; - drowsiness; - headache; or - nausea. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur.
