It seems like Panasonic may be working on a new compact camera: the TZ300. Reddit user Radeon26
posted a photo
that appears to show the upcoming camera, alongside a specs card that says it has a 20MP Type-1 sensor, a 24-360mm equiv. F3.3-6.4 lens and a macro mode for taking pictures of subjects as close as 3cm (1.2") away.
The image came from a now-private video from a Polish creator, which we were able to watch before it was pulled. It appeared to show an official Panasonic event where the rest of the company's Lumix lineup, as well as other electronics, were being shown off.
While we weren't able to get more information from the video than what's visible in the screenshot, we can probably do some informed speculation, given that the camera's name and design imply that it's a follow-up to the
Lumix DC-ZS200/TZ200
from 2018. That camera has the same sensor and lens specs, though is equipped with a microUSB port. It could be that, as with the
Lumix DC-ZS99 from last year
, the company is releasing a mild update of the camera to add USB-C.
One thing we wouldn't like to see repeated from the DC-ZS99 refresh is the loss of an EVF, though the video being taken down makes it hard to scrub through frame by frame for any hint of one on the TZ300. But, given the sticker next to the camera that says "Embargo Date 24 March 2026," it seems like we won't have to wait that long before there's an official announcement.

***UPDATE MARCH 24:** Panasonic has now officially released the TZ300. For more information, you can [read our coverage here](https://www.dpreview.com/news/0117907605/panasonic-s-lumix-zs300-tz300-compact-is-disappointingly-familiar).*
Recent Videos
It seems like Panasonic may be working on a new compact camera: the TZ300. Reddit user Radeon26 [posted a photo](https://www.reddit.com/r/Lumix/comments/1rvjm1f/new_lumix_tz300_leaked/) that appears to show the upcoming camera, alongside a specs card that says it has a 20MP Type-1 sensor, a 24-360mm equiv.
While we weren't able to get more information from the video than what's visible in the screenshot, we can probably do some informed speculation, given that the camera's name and design imply that it's a follow-up to the [Lumix DC-ZS200/TZ200](https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs200-tz200) from 2018. That camera has the same sensor and lens specs, though is equipped with a microUSB port. It could be that, as with the [Lumix DC-ZS99 from last year](https://www.dpreview.com/news/8943078360/panasonic-g97-zs99-tz99-refresh-usb-c), the company is releasing a mild update of the camera to add USB-C.
One thing we wouldn't like to see repeated from the DC-ZS99 refresh is the loss of an EVF, though the video being taken down makes it hard to scrub through frame by frame for any hint of one on the TZ300. But, given the sticker next to the camera that says "Embargo Date 24 March 2026," it seems like we won't have to wait that long before there's an official announcement.

what a tremendous let down.... if i didn't know better id think these cowardly companies like panasonic \[ well all of them \] are just treading water until they drown
from innovation withdrawal
sad and stu pid , and does nothing to change my opinion that these corporations are
run by clueless non photographer comittees and CEOs who are emotionally and intellectually divorced from the process and art of photography
a pathetic situation

The writing has been on the wall for a while now with Japanese consumer electronics. Sony sold a controlling stake in Bravia TVs to TCL. Panasonic has offloaded all manufacturing, sales, and distribution of their TVs to Skyworth.
I suspect Canon, Sony, and maybe Fuji will be the last ones standing. Canon, because Professional and Consumer Imaging are a huge chunk of their business. Sony, because they need proof of concepts for their Semiconductor business and they have some fairly lucrative AP and broadcasting contracts. Fuji, because Instax continues to print money and the rest is a nice bonus.
I expect DJI, Viltrox, and Xiaomi to continue to encroach into the traditionally Japanese consumer electronics space.

I wished they'd reduce the tele range somewhat in favour of brighter aperture and/or less bulk. I can still zoom with the crop tool.

I care about the pocketelable equivalent aperture they can give. Generally that means type-1 is pretty ideal

Or ... easily wide enough but not long enough? It's all a compromise but, for the size, the focal length range is pretty good. Wish the lens quality and viewfinder were also pretty good. I'd have bought one if that was the case.

It's nice to see that Lumix is not totally focused on full frame.

I want an android back. Auto syncing to my NAS, or onedrive, way easier to get your photos off your device, or email right from the camera. Then watch youtube tv on the back, check weather before your shoot. Samsung made a few a LONG time ago now.
I was taking pics of butterflies yesterday and for pics I'm never going to really share or print, my iphone with environmentally aware tech, does a pretty decent job (I could get close to them). I want this same ability on a camera, just auto and do it.
Sure, I used to lug my 1D3 with my 300 F2.8 L IS USM back in college and had all the lenses and what nots, shot 100s of weddings later, HS sports photo website, etc etc but all that burnt me out. I want more than a phone, but it's gotta be really neat.

Are you saying you want a much shorter, brighter zoom? I can see that, but I'm the guy who wants lots of zoom. I am always using an old pocket zoom to take pictures outdoors, and particularly with wildlife a short zoom would just never do. I'd be happy with twice as much zoom.

The old ZS60 and ZS80 pocket cameras are great for touring. Wide angle for landscapes, super zoom for wildlife. I shoot raw to get the best photos.
The EVF is a must for me though.

I still have (and frequently use) my 2014 ZS40 with a 24-720 Leica lens, a viewfinder and GPS, and also captures raw images, all for under \$500. I bought a spare just in case. In my book, the ZS99 and ZS200 didn't come close in value for money. There are many situations where I can't or don't want to bring my Sony mirrorless and zoom lens. I'm not optimistic about the ZS300, but I will plan to take a look when it is released.

Completely correct and on target. Is there any reason to consider these compact cameras while the iPhones continue to improve and innovate? IMO the next significant improvements will be better computer editing programs for iPhone Raw Images. Along such lines, the Bayer app that captures iPhone images in the closest version of "RAW" seems to be worthy of exploration.
If not already completed, IMO It would be both interesting and relevant for dpreview to evaluate various add on lenses for the iPhone camera. Comparison with the RAW files from such lenses when compared to RAW files of the same subjects from cameras similar to the Panasonic Lumix would be very interesting.

I posted something I'm likely going to get 'beat up' for....I want the same environmentally aware tech in my phone and shoot, and even mirrorless (with ability to turn it off of course). Phones are damn good these days in auto and for quick sharing. I don't always have time to edit my pics.
I want an android back (OS) camera which would have all the auto pop you get from phones, but with way way easier to share ability.

Same. I just wish they had the same environmentally aware tech that phones have. As an option. Sometimes you just don't hve time to edit pics and if that's the case, an iphone shooter could get better looking shots faster.

Nothing on the top plate to suggest a pop up EVF and it doesn't look tall enough to have one built in . For me,no EVF,no sale. For under 60s, no EVF may be fine, not for us older individuals. In bright light the rear screen is mostly guess work.

There are two cameras in the picture, the front one looks to have some sort of central cutout which the back one does not have. Possibly two versions one with and one without this feature. I'd rather have a flash than a evf. I never missed a shot because of the lack of an evf, cant say the same for the flash.

I don't think Panasonic has ever had a pop-up EVF and given the size of the camera, I doubt they do now. Likely a pop-up flash similar to older models. Lumix EVF have been add-ons or built-in with bump-outs.

@dwill23, perhaps that was the entire point of mentioning a Nikon camera, that Nikon built and promoted, yet never sold a single one.

where are the promised dl nikon 1 inchers ??
that boondoggle will haunt nikon till the end of time .... its the first time i realized camera companies , when in damaged control mode , will say anything and everything to hide the truth to their customers , and prevent bad press
for nikon the endless half truth and lies were the cause of the bad press beyond the simple cancellation of a few cameras

Soeing a lot of comments about an EVF. I never ever use one, only the screen display. People with a camera on their face are not aware of their surroundings, which can be dangerous. My wish list includes having a 3k nit bright screen. Maybe give folks the option to choose a bright screen or an EVF and you'll have a winner. Maybe make both of these things modular attachments?

I think that I compose better with back display instead of EVF. However, like you said we need brighter display to use in outdoors. Also the displays should be pretty large to allow people with farsightedness (like me) to see.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
But those wishing for an EVF just need to go to the used market. I have a Panasonic ZS100 that has both a back display and an EVF.

Tiny camera with tiny EVF, not what I want. Just use the rear screen like the billion+ people do on their phones. I rather have a flash which would actually help you get some pictures.

I get that some people (generally younger and trained on cellphone cameras) have become familiar with composing on a rear screen. What I don't understand is why they can't understand the massive advantages of using a viewfinder and the tendency of some of them to knock people who do. It's MUCH harder to hold a camera steady when it's not braced against your head as well as your arms; it's much harder to frame accurately when you are looking at something relatively small (a distant screen), compared to a viewfinder in which everything you see is what you will photograph; and gauging exposure and colour with something not screened from external light (assuming you can even see through the reflections) is vastly harder using a rear screen.
Each to his/her own but please don't pretend using a screen is much better and a viewfinder is redundant! It absolutely isn't.

deep7, LOL, I've been shooting since the 80s. Yes, of course, you can hold more steady pressing your elbows to your sides and camera to your face. You can also get a better shot with a huge fixed focal length lens mounted to a large sensor camera. Better yet, why not carry a huge tripod and shoot every shot from the tripod and bracket all exposures.
The purpose of this camera is to be a small easily portable camera, making it difficult to include every feature. Tradeoffs are needed to make the camera small. Look at the cell phone, it gives up not only the EVF but the lens too and still the vast majority of people find the pictures worth the tradeoffs.
I doubt if a small camera like this even had an EVF, it would have an eye-cup that you could press into to steady the camera. An EVF on this little camera wouldn't even be as wide as your eyeball. That was my point, how good would the tiny EVF be, certainly not as good as those on ILC cameras.

Text message instead of quality phone discussion= less effort
Fast food instead of cooking= less effort
Facts instead of understanding= less effort
Jpg instead of raw= less effort
Many things these days are about not wanting to spend effort to get quality, so people turn to ai and ask stupid things like is a red colored car nicer than blue I can't put the effort to decide.

Have you ever used an SLR? or mirrorless? No one uses the display.
For me, being 47, I don't have to use glasses to shoot with the EVF, but I guess you didn't think about that. I wouldn't have 5+ years ago.

Poppamies, so you carry a 20lb tripod everywhere? if not, you are not putting in enough effort or lack a basic understanding.
@dwill23, my SLR only had a top LCD, and you loaded film in it, there was no "display". I have seen many people out with new expensive gear composing 100% with the screen and not the viewfinder. I use my viewfinder on my ILC, but find the rear screen 100% perfect when shooting on my tiny compact. So, after you get the shot, you walk around looking through the viewfinder, because your glasses are in your pocket? I'd like to see that\!
With sales volumes down, companies need broad appeal of their gear and I seriously doubt 99% of people would care about an EVF. Ever hand your camera to someone that didn't know to look in the viewfinder let alone press the back focus button? Companies trying to sell gear know what sells. Mass market appeal and high sales does not occur because they include every feature photo gear-heads want.

KonaMike: "I seriously doubt 99% of people would care about an EVF". Hahahahaha!! I think we can be comfortably sure that FAR more than 1% of people looking to buy a fairly serious camera with a significantly long lens would very much care about an EVF. We can be equally sure that you do not represent 99% of photographers either.
I do get baffled on this site sometimes when a poster decides he/she has the only point of view that matters, even when clear evidence suggests otherwise. Then I laugh when those people don't give up but get very excited pursuing their narrow and unimportant arguments.
Let's put it another way. If the camera has a viewfinder, it won't lose any sales as a result. If it doesn't, it will lose plenty, despite your protests that a viewfinder is not important...

@Poppamies, I'm glad to hear that you think you would carry a 20lb tripod everywhere. The reality is that no one can travel with massive gear all the time, eventually you start to leave gear at home and learn to bring only the most critical gear.

I prefer having an EVF, but am comfortable shooting from the screen too. So not universally “pointless”. Though it provides this camera with an additional hurdle on the “better enough, often enough” (vs phone) test that I apply to compact cameras. So while I applaud the effort, I’m unlikely to purchase.

Even in the era that pre-dated bright screens, I was generally able to shade the screen with my hand, a ball cap, or by attaching an Hoodman.
Again, I’m not unappreciative of eye-level viewfinders. I’ll go as far as to say I generally prefer having one. However, experience tells me that they are not absolutely necessary, and that I can forgive the omission on a compact camera.

i never said anything of the sort
if you read more carefully im simply referring to thee ownership cycle of the cellphone
but since you ask , a real camera with or without an evf is owned many years and isnt junked if its memory is corrupted of too small or otherwise neding replacement a 20 dollar sd card is the solution
if the battery loses its ability to charge it too is replaceable in a real camera
whereas a cellphone often confusingly thought of as a camera becomes a piece of junk when either fail as most phones lock doew thuse componants making repair or refreshment about impossible
cameras last.... really last ... and even when retired are often kept as a display objects or passed on to others
cellphones almost always unrepairable battery locked e - waste in a few short years
and if you think real shooter dont care about an evf i suggest you get out more

Almost all cellular batteries are replaceable. While not at the hand of the average enduser, there are mall kiosks and storefronts dedicated to this service. Premium phones don’t automatically hit the landfill either. They are passed down, or traded in (for refurbishment, resale or recycling) when their first owner moves on.
And again, the “real shooter”, “no true Scotsman” gatekeeping. My first Lumix MFT camera had no viewfinder. My phone doesn’t today. Both are arrows in my quiver used by a “real” photographer to make “real” photographs. Some of which hang on real walls.
I get out plenty. Sometimes with a viewfinder. Other times without.

“a 24-360mm equiv. F3.3-6.4 lens”
In other words, a 8.8-132mm f/3.3-6.4 lens, equivalent in M43 terms to 12-180mm f/4.5-8.7, or in FF terms to 24-360mm f/9-17.

The world would be less confusing if we used physical aperture or 35mm equiv fstop.
Similarly we should not used focal length and often don't instead use angle of view or 35mm equiv focal length.
Not sure how we landed half way where people want fstop and equivalent focal length. Give me equivalent fstop and equivalent focal length or if you are a purist give me physical aperture diameter and angle of view

@mosc -- you are right, it would have been less confusing, but "confusing" is exactly the point - it's a feature, not a bug, for sales. Reviewers and influencers rarely call it out because access, review samples, and relationships with brands matter more than a few upset readers.

But it does have a focal ratio range of 3.3 to 6.4. It’s expressed that way because that’s how we set the exposure and it does have the angle of view equivalent to a 24-360 lens. I think the second part would be better expressed in degrees

It also does have a 8.8-132mm lens and that’s how you would turn the barrel if it had a mechanical zoom. Maybe it displays equivalent focal lengths in the user interface, but then it could just as easily display equivalent f-ratios and ISO settings as well. The actual f-ratio is an internal implementation detail with pretty much the same relevance as the actual focal length: you don’t set the aperture to f/5 because you want the photo to have been taken “at f/5” with the EXIF data to match; you set it because it achieves the visual effect you want. (In fact, I suspect that with that camera, I would just always shoot wide open.)

When you say equivalent to FF f/9-17, be sure you say that is only the DOF equivalence and not the exposure. This confuses many people into thinking that they will be forced into bad exposure choices of f9 when they actually have a much more usable f6.4 on the long end.

I hear that all the time and it makes no sense. You are assuming ISO film, not a sensor. The "film" ISO is not relevant. You say dof equivalent like it's not a physical characteristic of the lens but it is. It's the physical aperture the light goes through at that angle of view

Get real and learn what you are talking about. if you have a full frame camera and a crop camera side by side and set the exact same exposure, ISO 100, aperture f5.6 and shutter 1/100 on both images will be have the exact same exposure. The field of view can be different and the DOF will be different, but the exposure will be 100% exactly the same. f5.6 on 35mm is still f5.6, when the sensor is smaller f5.6 is still f5.6 on that smaller sensor. Go try it out, there is no disputing this fact.

“if you \[…\] set the exact same exposure, \[…\] both images will be have the exact same exposure.”
That is trivially true, but what is the point of the exposure being the same? What makes 132mm f/6.4 on a 1-inch sensor more “usable” than 360mm f/17 on a FF sensor? The lower EXIF values for “f-ratio” and “ISO” in the JPEG files? They’re equivalent not just in DOF but also noise at a given shutter speed as well as diffraction.
Surely, you don’t mean that some people who use an external light meter will overexpose their images by 3 stops because they don’t understand equivalence?

Iso is also wrong. It should be 35mm equiv iso so a "type 1" sensor's most likely base iso is 270. Using equivalent aperture, again with a 2.7x multiplier your exposure is fine and you know it. Want to shoot iso100 like you used to in the film days? Don't use a tiny sensor

LMFAO at equivalence crazies. Every camera regardless of focal length and sensor size will have EXACTLY the same exposure when the ISO, aperture, and shutter speed are set the same. Yes, there can be slight variations as manufacturers seem to have slightly different interpretations of ISO.
Field of view and DOF will be the only differences and depend on lens focal length and the sensor size.
The small camera here zoomed to the max at 132mm will produce an image where the subject fills the frame the same as a FF camera zoomed to 360mm. This small camera will achieve a shutter speed the exact same as the FF camera when ISO is set the same on both. The major difference will be that the DOF will be greater for the small camera and the field of view won't be the same.
The crazy equivalence math people trying to imply that this lens zoomed to the max will be f17 and require a crazy slow shutter speed or super high ISO are fear mongering at best and ill informed at best.

@Kona Mike -- congrats, you are exactly the target demographic marketing departments dream of: someone who thinks an \$800 bridge camera is magically defying the laws of optics.
Equivalence isn't 'fear-mongering', it’s just a simple obvious math. If you want to actually compare two different systems, you have to look at the final output- the image. To get the exact same image (same Field of View, same Depth of Field, and same Signal-to-Noise ratio/grain), the math is actually painfully simple:
Multiply the Focal Length by the crop factor (to match FOV).
Multiply the Aperture by the crop factor (to match DOF and total light gathered/photon noise).
Multiply the ISO by the square of the crop factor (to match the noise levels).

I have not ever thought that a small camera like this was ever trying to get the exact same image. LMFAO, same signal to noise, give me a break. OP says that this tiny camera zoomed to the max is like a FF at f17. It is not a FF f17 considering exposure. It will correctly expose its small sensor at the f6.4. But golly gee, you are so smart, the small sensor doesn't capture as much light and has more noise, wow what an amazing genius thought, I would have never imagined that. THANKs for that brilliant insight.

“The crazy equivalence math people trying to imply that this lens zoomed to the max will be f17 and require a crazy slow shutter speed or super high ISO are fear mongering at best and ill informed at best.”
Complete straw man. All that anyone is saying is that this camera at, say, 132mm f/6.4 1/400s ISO 200 should give results with the same field of view, depth of field, diffraction and a similar amount of noise to 180mm f/8.7 1/400s ISO 400 on M43 or 360mm f/17 1/400s ISO 1600 on FF. You can use any shutter speed you like.
“I have not ever thought that a small camera like this was ever trying to get the exact same image.”
The idea is not “trying to get the exact same image” (prescriptive), it’s to have a frame of reference for the kind of images you would get (descriptive). Being fine with an f/17 equivalent is allowed.
“OP says that this tiny camera zoomed to the max is like a FF at f17. It is not a FF f17 considering exposure”
It’s also not a 360mm considering focal length. So?

Kona mike is the reason I said we should talk in angle of view and physical aperture rather than exposure settings he finds descriptive. I mean in 2026, I use exposure compensation more than I use ISO. You mostly just lock these cameras at base ISO unless it's super bright or you're shooting some timelapse thing so "ISO" is not that relevant in describing a lens.

Wonderful camera, still using my original from 2014. I wish it had a manual zoom lens and wish it were a little smaller. Since nothing else on the market "fits" I'll probably get a second-hand mkii version if my current one fails irreparably, or maybe something new will appear soon which fits the bill.

I had the Nikon Coolpix S9900 and liked the tilt swivel screen which is great for low or high angle shots. But after years of using Compact travel Zoom cameras, I have to say the pop-up viewfinder in my Sony HX90 is far more useful.
So losing the viewfinder - especially if it doesn't have a tilt-swivel screen, is really not a great offering for this market. It is indeed very likely that it's a minor update to add the USB-C to enable continued sales in the EU. It may garner the compact travel zoom market SOLELY by being the only available such camera available new today.
When my Nikon died- I was lucky to find a second hand Sony HX90 that works great. These are fragile little things with such long-zooms in a tiny body.

The Ricoh GR IV lens is a redesign, and the GR IIIX was also a new design with the new focal length in 2021. The RX100 series has been stale for a while though, and the Fujifilm X100VI uses the same lens as the V from 2020.

The GR IV has an updated lens; the differences are subtle (it's obviously still a 28mm F2.8), but they're there. Also, the GR IIIx came out in 2021, and that was a fully new lens for the series.
Outside of the GR... I'm pretty sure the 2025 PowerShot V1's 18-50mm equiv. lens was new for that camera.
Edit: (@BrassGlass what are the odds we both reply basically the same thing at the same time to a two hour old comment?)

Looks like my LX15 but without the f/1.8 lens for wider reach. The geniuses at Panasonic after 8 years of trial and error decided to really go over the top this time and disrupt the camera evolution by replacing the micro-usb port with - if the rumours discussed wildly on social media are true - an usb-c port. The world holds its breath.

Given Panasonic publicly discontinued their compacts some time ago, and last year only reissued their lower end models, my thought is they are rebuilding both their design and manufacturing capabilities. It is good that they have access to the 1 inch sensors. EVF absence could be either choice for the blogging market or availability of the units.

Possibly, but as others indicate here, trying to hold a camera steady with a 350mm zoom FOV equivalent is very difficult without a tripod of an EVF.
Personally, I have short range vision issues now and the EVF is even more important (and the one on the ZS200 is reasonable). I get your point though.

Oh I agree the full zoom only works with support or with VERY short exposure.
With the predecessor the TZ70 I back in 2015 took a hand-held image of a plane over 11Km up with 720mm equivalent, lying on my lawn though, so that gave some support, shot with 1/250 s on a bright day in May.
See my review here
<https://eskerahn.dk/?p=23>
If you click on the crop, you can see surprisingly many details. Not only paint and folded landing gear, but the bent wing-tips and other details...
Obviously not super sharp, but far better than I expected, and 11km air certainly added to the bluring, so not only the camera is to blame for that.

I noticed that and commented about it. But it doesn’t look like a screen. There’s no edge on the bottom part of that protrusion. It blends into the body. Maybe it’s AI generated or an image that’s been tampered with. Can’t know.
In any case a screen shouldn’t protrude that much out from the body.

Nothing new apparently. To my perception, if the compact camera is to get a rebirth, it needs to bring something new to the market.
Supposing the compact camera is to compete with the mobile phone, many, if not most mobile phones today include an ultra wide angle lens. Give that to a compact camera! Instead of starting at 24mm, let the lens start at 20 and it doesn’t need to go to a very long focal length so it maintains a certain quality in the final image. And keep the lens fast enough.
But looking at the above image, on the right side of the front camera, what’s this bump behind the eyelet? This is where an EVF bump is supposed to be but to the top of the camera. Not where it is here. Looks AI generated.

This is not a systems camera body. M4/3 is crying out loud for an update of the GM5 type body - not another all-in-one point'n'shoot. No matter how sophisticated it might be.

I feel like anybody who knows anything about photography is not asking for \>200mm from a compact camera but the target customer, right or wrong, buys based on "zoom". I don't know how true it is or if the camera manufacturers are just using it as an excuse for cheaper lens designs but it does seem like 15x is more important than aperture or wide angle.
I'd be happy with 20-120mm only "6x" but as fast as possible from a "type-1" sensor.

You can get that in the RX100, if you're prepared to pay for it, f4.5 at the 200mm end still makes it pretty solid for concerts (why I've rented it a few times and now ended up with one). The older versions and the VA had even shorter/faster lenses, as did the LX100, but RIP.

I agree. Starting at 20 makes the lens go from ultra wide to mild telephoto. This would be a compelling lens, as well as potentially having higher quality and less complicated optics and being faster. Had enough of those 24 to above 300 offers, getting to 2000 and more with smaller sensors.

What I might like...
1\. 20-200mm
2\. Stacked sensor
3\. EVF
4\. Nice build quality
5\. Don't call it 1-Inch sensor; we know it's not (as in the inch being a unit of measurement)
It looks cute and desirable.

Another rehash of an older design.
Do camera companies no longer employ designers that can make compacts or otherwise? I'm starting to wonder. I haven't seen a brand new compact design by any major maker except Leica in quite some time.

I'm starting to think it wasn't mobile phones who killed off the market for this type of cameras but the manufacturers' lack of interest (either that or incompetence). Everyone gets surprised each time someone like Kodak sells a shipload of compact cameras but then they go back to convincing us it can't happen because of the mobile phones.

@zamorano
Kodak is selling a lot of low budget cameras, and it's unclear how good the more premium market have fared. Other people talk a lot about Fuji or Sony being able to sell "a lot" of more expensive cameras, but putting aside Panasonic does not have the same level of brand recognition, it's unclear how much volume that entails. If Panasonic wants to emulate Kodak, then this type of rehashed camera is the prime product to release as it keeps the price relatively low (I believe Canon did similar with a recent compact release).

24-360mm equiv ? I can't speak from experience, but in the forums I once saw somebody say the old rule of thumb is : "the wider the range, the worse the lens".
That fits in with my belief that everything, or almost everything, usually comes for a price.

Not really what I’d be looking for. Anything over 200mm is overkill for such a camera, and I could even do with 120mm. I’d consider that worthwhile in exchange for a faster lens.

I would rather see successor of TZ100 than such of TZ200. TZ 100 is mutch better camera, though both struggle same softhes at the wide end makking images hardly usable. Hoping for better wide angle sharpnes, beter image color science and processing and better (at least tiltable) screen. This could make the camera winner for me.

If this is real, then Panasonic Lumix is behaving like OM System -- minimal changes in new models, and reusing form factors even when it doesn't make sense (i.e. the Micro Four-Thirds G9 ii being essentially the same body as the full-frame S5 ii, even though one would want, and would expect, that MFT would be smaller). As though they want to pinch every penny, and make minimal investment.
C'mon Panasonic, in the years since the previous model, you couldn't significantly improve the specs?
And where is what many of us want, something small but with an interchangeable lens, like maybe an improved GX-9?

The GX9 came out even longer ago than I thought, in early 2018, and the GX850 came out in early 2017 (the last real upgrade/iteration of what used to be the GM/GF platform)... So it's been 8-9 years\!
I actually thought the GX9 came out too soon after the very well received GX85, and I thought the pandemic had delayed any successors for a while, but it's now pretty clear Panasonic just abandoned all it's small(er) ILCs and many of it's P\&S precisely when that maket had rebounded a bit or found some profitable niches.
Sony is (successfully) selling the RX100 VII for a whopping \$1,700, Canon can't keep the G7 X III in stock, Sony doubled down on smaller flat top bodies with the A7C II & A7CR (still seems to sell plenty of old a6400 & the newer a6700). Fuji & Ricoh have been selling every X100 & GR they can make... And Panasonic is like "nah, pass". 🤷

A faster reading sensor and any other trickle down tech would've made it pretty easy to get any kind of GX update out the door if they really cared to do so over the last 8+ years. I'm still shooting a GX850 alongside my FF kit sometimes because some of the M4/3 lenses are just that good or unique, but I can see why most buyers would've lost interest in what Pana is doing (or not doing) outside of L mount.

Seems like it could be the same lens and sensor, but there might be more enhancements in this unit. Lets wait to see what the official release says next week.
I'm just glad that Panasonic is still investing in this form factor. Even if it is almost the same as the TZ200, at least it will put downward pressure on prices for the TZ200.

The ZS200 seems to be out of stock everywhere in the US, so I'm not sure this will really put any downward price pressure on that model... The few buyers that care about 1" compacts seem to be outstripping supply, Sony raised prices on an RX100 during the tariffs mess and they never came back down, Canon can barely keep theirs in stock.
I dunno why Panasonic wouldn't give more advanced notice about this when they don't even have ZS200 stock sitting out there TBH... I just bought a grey market RX100 VII cause I couldn't stomach paying \$500 more for one and after renting it twice it still seemed like the best bet for concerts by far (well my partner got it for me).

(continued) I think a TZ/ZS200/300 would still be appealing for people in that market, specially if it can undercut the loftily priced RX100 (\$1,700 for the Mk VII in the US, still \$1,200 elsewhere AFAIK). I think the ZS200 debuted at \$800 and had dropped well under that before disappearing (in the US anyway, is there still stock elsewhere?).

@Impulses
I guess I can see the point of a point-and-shoot type camera for concerts, given the often-seen imposition by venues of no "professional" cameras requirement, often (unfairly) interpreted by those venues as no cameras accepting interchangeable lenses.
But then, even if accepting the no-interchangeable-lenses limitation, nothing should stop the manufacturers from making at least one good fixed-lens model with a good (and bigger) sensor, and a better lens. Yeah, costs more, but buyers, by other purchases, have already demonstrated a willingness to pay.
And most everyday-carry uses do not involve the concert fixed lens limitation, and I think that there is a substantial market for a small MFT camera but with interchangeable lenses.
