Now on view at The Broad,
Jeffrey Gibson: the space in which to place me
is a special exhibition of the artist’s multidimensional work, adapted from its original presentation in the U.S. Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024, where Jeffrey Gibson was the first Indigenous artist to represent the United States with a solo exhibition.
Gibson’s practice celebrates individuals and communities who have maintained their dignity and traditions in impossible circumstances, centering the resilience present in the legacies of Indigenous makers. He juxtaposes a variety of texts, from foundational legal documents to quotes from civil rights activists to pop song lyrics, combining American, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ histories with references to popular subcultures, literature, and global artistic traditions.

On Wednesday, June 4, RCC presents
To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar
. Starring Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo,
To Wong Foo
tells the story of three New York drag queens on their way to Hollywood who get stranded in a small Midwestern town when their car breaks down. While waiting for parts, the flamboyant trio shows the local homophobic rednecks that appearing different doesn’t mean they don’t have humanity in common.
Later in June, RCC presents a screening of
The Birdcage
(1996) on Sunday, June 29. A gay cabaret owner (played by Robin Williams) and his drag queen companion (Nathan Lane) agree to put up a false straight front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancée's right-wing moralistic parents (Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest). Now on view at The Broad, [***Jeffrey Gibson: the space in which to place me***](https://www.thebroad.org/art/special-exhibitions/jeffrey-gibson-space-which-place-me "Jeffrey Gibson: the space in which to place me") is a special exhibition of the artist’s multidimensional work, adapted from its original presentation in the U.S.

[**Rooftop Cinema Club**](https://rooftopcinemaclub.com/los-angeles/ "Rooftop Cinema Club") offers a premier outdoor movie experience at **LEVEL** in Downtown LA.
On Wednesday, June 4, RCC presents [***To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar***](https://bucketlisters.com/experience/wine-wednesday-movie-night-los-angeles "To Wong Foo"). Starring Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo, *To Wong Foo* tells the story of three New York drag queens on their way to Hollywood who get stranded in a small Midwestern town when their car breaks down. While waiting for parts, the flamboyant trio shows the local homophobic rednecks that appearing different doesn’t mean they don’t have humanity in common.
Later in June, RCC presents a screening of [***The Birdcage***](https://rooftopcinemaclub.com/los-angeles/dtla/film/14665-the-birdcage/ "The Birdcage") (1996) on Sunday, June 29. A gay cabaret owner (played by Robin Williams) and his drag queen companion (Nathan Lane) agree to put up a false straight front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancée's right-wing moralistic parents (Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest). Before the movie, enjoy a live drag show - don't forget your dollar bills, darlings\!

A hidden gem in Los Feliz, the landmark **Philosophical Research Society** presents a screening, panel and dance party that celebrates one of LA’s most legendary queer happenings – [**Mustache Mondays**](https://www.prs.org/events.html "PRS Events")\!
Taking place on Friday, June 13, the Pride Month celebration commemorates what would’ve been the much-missed club night’s 18th anniversary. Then, the PRS auditorium will transform into a dance floor for an afterparty replete with drinks, sets from original Mustache Mondays DJs Rush Davis, DJ Kita, and Shay Elys, and a special performance by artist Rafa Esparza.

The evening will kick off with a screening of Marianne Amelinckx’s 2021 documentary, which chronicles its story and legacy, followed by a panel discussion with Amelinckx, the film’s producer Jullieta Messmer, celebrated drag performer Miss Barbie-Q and Mustache Mondays co-founders Josh Peace and Danny Gonzalez (it'll be his birthday, too!).
Then, the PRS auditorium will transform into a dance floor for an afterparty replete with drinks, sets from original Mustache Mondays DJs Rush Davis, DJ Kita, and Shay Elys, and a special performance by artist Rafa Esparza. Tickets are on sale at [**Eventbrite**](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mustache-mondays-2021-screening-panel-dance-party-celebration-tickets-1361276337169 "Mustache Mondays Celebration").
