May 17, 2021 Time to write another part in my ongoing Epic Rap Battle Retrospective series.Ā  I’m almost done!Ā  Maybe I’ll finish this before any new battles are announced.Ā  Let’s see… what’re this week’s videos? …oh, the Trump/Clinton one is this week.Ā  I don’t feel like getting overly political on the blog this week.Ā  I’ll let someone else do it .Ā  Maybe I’ll take my turn next week. May 24, 2021 Okay, it’s Monday!Ā  I should do the next Epic Rap Battles article.Ā  Wait, that means having to discuss Trump vs. Clinton.Ā  Yeah… not this week.Ā  But next week for sure.Ā  I guess I’ll ask Geoff to take my spot again . May 31, 2021 Hmm, I mean, I could talk about Trump vs. Clinton, or I could watch Angela’s special Memorial Day stream of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster … yeah, I’ll watch it. June 7, 2021 Well, I did say in the comments on Wednesday that I wanted to write an editorial about Square-Enix’s remakes, so I should get that out of the way while it’s on my mind . June 14, 2021 Well, now that I got that editorial out of the way, I should get back to the Epic Rap Battle Retrospectives.Ā  Why haven’t I done part ten yet? Oh, right.Ā  Trump and Clinton.Ā  Geoff, help ! June 21, 2021 Summer Flame Day became Summer Flame Week this year.Ā  Yeah, that’s my excuse … June 28, 2021 Ugh… so hot… can’t think… pant, pant, pant… ~~~Ā  ~~~Ā  ~~~ Eventually… August 18, 2021 It’s been a while, I really should get back to the Epic Rap Battle Retrospectives.Ā  Why in the world did I not? Oh, right.Ā  Hillary and the pumpkin.Ā  Well, I can’t avoid this one forever. But first… Alexander the Great vs. Ivan the Terrible I wrote an article about how videos like this help teach history , and that totally was not my first attempt to avoid talking about the Trump vs. Clinton battle, I swear!Ā  My original plan was to continue this retrospective series by talking about this battle in its chronologically correct placement, but the next part is going to be full of what feels like non-standard battles, so I’m going to skip over this one for now and come back to it, if that’s alright?Ā  I want to deal with the madness first. No?Ā  Too bad. Donald Trump vs. Hillary Clinton Best line: Probably depends on your own biases, but I think you know whose lines I’d be putting here. Holy shit!: ā€œCause this whole system’s rigged, and we all know the riggers: for the last 8 years, this country’s been run by-ā€ Well, time to face the ogre.Ā  I mean, one of them.Ā  There is the weapon called The Ogre in Final Fantasy IX when I finally get around to talking about that game in the Final Fantasy Retrospectives, but for now, this is the main ogre I have to worry about. It’s weird, looking back at the single term of Donald Trump, who lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden by a lot, and realize that while he did do a lot of harm to the United States and the rest of the world, we still managed to get out the other side and can hopefully recover.Ā  I’ll get into more of the effects of Trump’s presidency in a future part. Watching this video again reminds me of how worried everyone was when Trump won the election, especially with how intense his verse was in the battle.Ā  It actually did feel like the world was going to end once Trump burned everything to the ground, and although he didn’t succeed at destroying the world, it felt like he tried with all his might (when he wasn’t golfing at Mar-a-Lago, that is).Ā  Especially during the last year when COVID-19 spread throughout the world and he refused to do the bare minimum to try to contain it. I remember being in shock when Hillary Clinton lost, because with how ridiculous Trump was being during the lead up to the election, it felt like no one in their right mind would vote for a buffoon like that.Ā  But it turned out that 63 million American citizens were content to watch their country burn for four years, and some of them justified it by saying they weren’t voting for Trump, they were voting against Clinton.Ā  Inexplicably, a lot of them thought Trump did the best job of any US President and chose to vote for him a second time.Ā  More on that in a future post… Ash Ketchum vs. Charles Darwin Best line: ā€œDarwin wants to battle?Ā  Doesn’t seem like a fight, but this should be fun.Ā  I’ve yet to catch the Ghost type.ā€ Runner up: ā€œLook.Ā  Mighty Morphin’ Michael Vick.Ā  Your animated slave fights make me sick.Ā  When I battle a foe from so simple a beginning, I’m not Charles Sheen, but I am Dar-winning.ā€ Holy shit!: ā€œMan, if that’s true, then nature is cruel.Ā  ā€˜Cause the only thing you’re winning is your cousin’s gene pool.Ā  You lost three children, while they were still small.Ā  TB and scarlet fever, gotta catch ’em all!ā€ Like The Legend of Zelda , the PokĆ©mon series is something that I really would like to get more into.Ā  Unlike The Legend of Zelda , I’ve actually partially played several PokĆ©mon games, including a used copy of PokĆ©mon: Special Pikachu Edition (also known as ā€œ PokĆ©mon Yellow ā€œ), a new copy of PokĆ©mon Soul Silver and a pirated version of PokĆ©mon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team .Ā  It was while watching the archive of this morning’s PokĆ©mon Presents that I came to the decision that, once I finish the Epic Rap Battle Retrospectives, and maybe get a bit further in the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest ones too, that I want to start a journey through every generation of PokĆ©mon .Ā  I won’t play every single game in the series, since technically each game has two separate versions, but they’re the same game anyway, so I’m planning on trying one version of each generation’s game and one version of each Mystery Dungeon game, as many of the spin-off titles as I can, and so on. I was quite charmed by the looks of some of the games presented this morning that I really wish that I had seriously gotten into PokĆ©mon sooner.Ā  Whereas I’m not really all that thrilled with the direction The Legend of Zelda seems to be going, which kills my desire to play all the games in that series – maybe I’ll just play it to a certain point – I’m liking what I’ve been seeing of the newest PokĆ©mon games, especially PokĆ©mon Legends: Arceus .Ā  The series certainly has been… heh, evolving. Wonder Woman vs. Stevie Wonder Best line: ā€œYou’re Miss Independent, or at least you try, but your first story is you running off with a guy.ā€ Runner up: ā€œWell, I’m a woman who wonders what you’re thinking.Ā  Some of your records make me wish you started drinking.Ā  Even if I stick to the best selections, your YouTube videos raise some vision questions.ā€ Here’s something I find pretty interesting.Ā  The DC superheroes are a lot more iconic and well known, but the Marvel superheroes make for better movies.Ā  Maybe it’s because the DC superheroes don’t explore their own flaws or problems as much as the Marvel superheroes do.Ā  Superman’s function is not to worry about elderly relatives or develop a drinking problem to cope with life.Ā  Superman’s function is to fight crime and stand up for truth, justice and the American way, and apparently he doesn’t dwell too much on the destruction of his entire race.Ā  Batman is pretty much the only character who is allowed to be human, considering he has no powers.Ā  Granted, many DC superheroes do have tragic backstories, but it feels like only Batman is allowed to really explore his.Ā  The most introspective you usually see Superman is when someone writes a song about him.Ā  Otherwise, he stands tall and fights the bad guys because that’s just what he does. Also, Marvel’s superheroes are allowed to grow and change, but DC’s superheroes must remain exactly the same from one comic to the next.Ā  It makes it difficult to adapt any of their stories to the big screen because Superman won’t grow as a person. Look at the first Spider-Man film, directed by Sam Raimi.Ā  Peter Parker learns that his powers give him more responsibilities than normal people.Ā  If he has the power to stop an injustice, then he should stop that injustice.Ā  The second film is about giving him a healthy work life balance.Ā  In both films, Peter Parker is different at the end than he is at the start. Batman is capable of growing as a person, or at the very least, ending a film as a different person than he started.Ā  One of the greatest superhero films, in my opinion, is The Dark Knight .Ā  The trouble is, everyone else thinks this too, so we’re stuck with a dark and dour DC movie universe until someone figures out what actually caused the film to be great, other than the atmosphere. Since DC superheroes rarely grow and change, it’s no wonder they do extremely well on television, where status quo is maintained more often than not.Ā  I remember enjoying watching Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman as well as both the Batman and Superman animated series from the 1990s. Marvel superheroes are also pretty decent on television as well.Ā  I watched a Spider-Man series on FOX Kids that I thoroughly enjoyed, and it had a strong sense of continuity about it, sort of like Gargoyles .Ā  The difference between Marvel and DC is that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is really kicking DC’s butt.Ā  Admittedly, this makes it hard for me to want to watch any of the newer DC movies.Ā  I think the last one I watched just happens to be The Dark Knight .Ā  And a little bit of Aquaman .Ā  I have heard that Wonder Woman is a good film, but I’ve yet to watch it. Tony Hawk vs. Wayne Gretzky Best line: ā€œTime out.Ā  Let’s talk about athletic achievements.Ā  You and I have so many world records between us.Ā  184, that’s plenty of ’em… and I’ve set 183 of ’em!ā€ Runner up: ā€œFor true sports fans, this was finished as soon as they heard the matchup.ā€ It’s hilarious to me that much of the sports trading cards from the 1990s are barely any more valuable than they were thirty years ago when they were all originally released.Ā  At the time, there was a sudden explosion in ā€œcollectableā€ items, since certain old comics and trading cards were being sold for a lot of money.Ā  What no one bothered to figure out and realize is that the only reason things like Action Comics #1 are valuable and rare is because most people didn’t take care of their copies when they were new, and very few pristine copies still exist. But that didn’t stop everyone from swearing up and down that collectable trading cards would be an investment that would one day pay off.Ā  ā€œYou’ll pay for your college education with these!ā€Ā  Yeah… no.Ā  The market was so flooded with trading cards, especially from Upper Deck, that I can still buy unopened boxes of their very first sets today.Ā  You’d think that certain cards would be rarer than they are, but I have quite a few Wayne Gretzky cards from those first four sets that I could easily afford to literally burn ten of each and not lose any value.Ā  With everyone saving them and not destroying them through carelessness, there are so many copies of each card that it’ll be a long time before any of them are worth anything significant. Meanwhile, video games from the same era are a lot more valuable because just like early comics and trading cards, no one took care of their first few video games.Ā  I guess we can’t predict what will and won’t become collectable.Ā  Games from the SNES era are especially valuable right now, and PS1 games are currently increasing in value very significantly.Ā  Any games I don’t have from the PS1 era may be forever delegated to either the ā€œwon’t ever get to playā€ pile or the ā€œI guess I’m pirating itā€ pile, since the original publisher won’t be getting any money from those eBay sales. Theodore Roosevelt vs. Winston Churchill Best line: ā€œA bullet can’t stop the Bull Moose!Ā  TR will give WC the full deuce!ā€Ā  ā€œWhatever shit you throw at me, I’ll just return to sender!ā€ Runner up: ā€œI’m the Rhyme Minister, fresh in a hat and dinner jacket.Ā  You look like a mix of EpicLLOYD and a Pringles packet.ā€ Holy shit!: ā€œMy parents died when they were young and it was morbid.Ā  But at least they didn’t ditch me while they were alive, like yours did!ā€ Finally, a true United States vs. United Kingdom rap battle!Ā  In the history of the Epic Rap Battles, there are fewer who are more suited to battle one another than Theodore Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. This is also the battle I turn to in order to teach me little bits of trivia about Teddy.Ā  I’ve answered many Jeopardy! questions correct thanks to this battle that other members of the family were certain weren’t going to be about him.Ā  Maybe if the Epic Rap Battles continue, I’ll learn enough about the Presidents of the United States that I’ll not have to study up on them so much whenever I finally try out and get onto the show. It’s just too bad that there aren’t a lot of Canadian leaders known well enough in the United States to appear in an Epic Rap Battle, but I guess Canadians excel in other ways.Ā  We supply the world with some of the best actors, singers and inventors (and a few of the worst… sorry for Justin Bieber and Tom Green). Nice Peter vs. EpicLLOYD 2 Holy shit!: Literally every line! I’m sorry, man!: ā€œNo, I’m fucking not!Ā  Fuck you!ā€ You wanna write a song?: ā€œYeah, dude!ā€ As a way to announce that they were planning on taking a break, this is certainly a very epic way of doing so.Ā  At first glance, it could also be a very mean-spirited way to go about it, but the way I see it, if they were this worried about their dirty laundry airing in such a manner, they wouldn’t have written the lyrics, recorded it, performed the video and released it. This is especially apparent at the end, where they agree to go write a song together and head off, leaving the studio behind for the time being.Ā  Whether they would return was yet to be seen, and there were times when I thought the Epic Rap Battles might be over for good. Obviously, they did continue, and in recent years, they’ve inspired many other channels to make their own rap battles.Ā  In a way, these other channels have helped tide us over while new ā€œofficialā€ Epic Rap Battles get made. After this battle came a hiatus that lasted almost two years.Ā  One interesting thing was that this battle was released on January 9, 2017.Ā  I’ll explain the significance of this, next time, and I won’t avoid it for so long this time.Ā  I’m so close to the end of this series of Retrospectives… for now, anyway.Ā  I’m planning on covering season 7 when we finally get a few more videos. For now, though, this is the end of season 5, and I have one more season to go… Feel Free to Share

But that didn’t stop everyone from swearing up and down that collectable trading cards would be an investment that would one day pay off. ā€œYou’ll pay for your college education with these!ā€ Yeah… no. The market was so flooded with trading cards, especially from Upper Deck, that I can still buy unopened boxes of their very first sets today. You’d think that certain cards would be rarer than they are, but I have quite a few Wayne Gretzky cards from those first four sets that I could easily afford to literally burn ten of each and not lose any value. With everyone saving them and not destroying them through carelessness, there are so many copies of each card that it’ll be a long time before any of them are worth anything significant. Meanwhile, video games from the same era are a lot more valuable because just like early comics and trading cards, no one took care of their first few video games. I guess we can’t predict what will and won’t become collectable. Games from the SNES era are especially valuable right now, and PS1 games are currently increasing in value very significantly. Any games I don’t have from the PS1 era may be forever delegated to either the ā€œwon’t ever get to playā€ pile or the ā€œI guess I’m pirating itā€ pile, since the original publisher won’t be getting any money from those eBay sales. [**Theodore Roosevelt vs. Winston Churchill![ERB-095](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ERB-095.jpg)**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owTPZQQAVyQ) Best line: ā€œA bullet can’t stop the Bull Moose! TR will give WC the full deuce!ā€ ā€œWhatever shit you throw at me, I’ll just return to sender!ā€ Runner up: ā€œI’m the Rhyme Minister, fresh in a hat and dinner jacket. You look like a mix of EpicLLOYD and a Pringles packet.ā€ Holy shit!: ā€œMy parents died when they were young and it was morbid. But at least they didn’t ditch me while they were alive, like yours did!ā€ Finally, a true United States vs. United Kingdom rap battle! In the history of the Epic Rap Battles, there are fewer who are more suited to battle one another than Theodore Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. This is also the battle I turn to in order to teach me little bits of trivia about Teddy. I’ve answered many ***Jeopardy\!*** questions correct thanks to this battle that other members of the family were certain weren’t going to be about him. Maybe if the Epic Rap Battles continue, I’ll learn enough about the Presidents of the United States that I’ll not have to study up on them so much whenever I finally try out and get onto the show. It’s just too bad that there aren’t a lot of Canadian leaders known well enough in the United States to appear in an Epic Rap Battle, but I guess Canadians excel in other ways. We supply the world with some of the best actors, singers and inventors (and a few of the worst… sorry for Justin Bieber and Tom Green). [**Nice Peter vs. EpicLLOYD 2![ERB-096](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ERB-096.jpg)**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mbGUld2w-s) Holy shit!: Literally every line\! I’m sorry, man!: ā€œNo, I’m fucking not! Fuck you!ā€ You wanna write a song?: ā€œYeah, dude!ā€ As a way to announce that they were planning on taking a break, this is certainly a very epic way of doing so. At first glance, it could also be a very mean-spirited way to go about it, but the way I see it, if they were this worried about their dirty laundry airing in such a manner, they wouldn’t have written the lyrics, recorded it, performed the video and released it. This is especially apparent at the end, where they agree to go write a song together and head off, leaving the studio behind for the time being. Whether they would return was yet to be seen, and there were times when I thought the Epic Rap Battles might be over for good. Obviously, they did continue, and in recent years, they’ve inspired many other channels to make their own rap battles. In a way, these other channels have helped tide us over while new ā€œofficialā€ Epic Rap Battles get made. After this battle came a hiatus that lasted almost two years. One interesting thing was that this battle was released on January 9, 2017. I’ll explain the significance of this, next time, and I won’t avoid it for so long this time. I’m so close to the end of this series of Retrospectives… for now, anyway. I’m planning on covering season 7 when we finally get a few more videos. For now, though, this is the end of season 5, and I have one more season to go… Feel Free to Share ### Related posts: [![ERB Season](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ERB-Season-1-120x120.jpg)An Epic Rap Battle Retrospective, Part 1](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/01/an-epic-rap-battle-retrospective-part-1/ "An Epic Rap Battle Retrospective, Part 1") [![ERB Season](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ERB-Season-1-120x120.jpg)An Epic Rap Battle Retrospective, Part 2](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/02/an-epic-rap-battle-retrospective-part-2/ "An Epic Rap Battle Retrospective, Part 2") [![ERB](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/ERB-011-120x120.jpg)An Epic Rap Battle Retrospective, Part 3](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/02/an-epic-rap-battle-retrospective-part-3/ "An Epic Rap Battle Retrospective, Part 3") [![ERB](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/ERB-011-120x120.jpg)An Epic Rap Battle Retrospective, Part 4](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/02/an-epic-rap-battle-retrospective-part-4/ "An Epic Rap Battle Retrospective, Part 4") Tags:[Epic Rap Battles of History](https://www.dcgameblog.com/tag/epic-rap-battles-of-history/) #### About The Author ![Avatar photo](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/?d=retro&s=100) ##### Joseph **Panthera Editus** \| In the great frozen land in the north known as Canada, a little to the east of that other frozen land in the north known as Alaska, resides the gaming enthusiast whom most people know as Joseph. ![epicrapbattlesbanner](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/epicrapbattlesbanner.jpg) May 17, 2021 Time to write another part in my ongoing Epic Rap Battle Retrospective series. I’m almost done! Maybe I’ll finish this before any new battles are announced. Let’s see… what’re this week’s videos? …oh, the Trump/Clinton one is this week. I don’t feel like getting overly political on the blog this week. I’ll let [someone else do it](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/05/its-tough-being-pro-palestine-under-corporate-entities/). Maybe I’ll take my turn next week. May 24, 2021 Okay, it’s Monday! I should do the next Epic Rap Battles article. Wait, that means having to discuss Trump vs. Clinton. Yeah… not this week. But next week for sure. I guess I’ll ask Geoff to [take my spot again](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/05/cognition-dissemination-if-only-frame-city-killer-released-15-years-ago/). May 31, 2021 Hmm, I mean, I could talk about Trump vs. Clinton, or I could watch Angela’s special Memorial Day stream of [***Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster***](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/05/dc-live-shin-megami-tensei-iii-nocturne-hd-remaster-livestream-at-8pm-et/)… yeah, I’ll watch it. June 7, 2021 Well, I did say in the [comments on Wednesday](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/06/dragon-quest-future-spective-the-dragon-quest-35th-anniversary-livestream/) that I wanted to write an editorial about Square-Enix’s remakes, so I should get that out of the way [while it’s on my mind](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/06/random-roar-the-truth-about-square-enixs-remakes/). June 14, 2021 Well, now that I got that editorial out of the way, I should get back to the Epic Rap Battle Retrospectives. Why haven’t I done part ten yet? Oh, right. Trump and Clinton. [Geoff, help](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/06/cognition-dissemination-square-enix-couldnt-have-blown-this-harder/)\! June 21, 2021 [Summer Flame Day](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/06/summer-flame-day-2021-sony-you-cowards-release-final-fantasy-vii-remake-intergrade-on-ps4/) became [Summer Flame Week](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/06/summer-flame-day-2021-prove-bayonetta-3-exists/) this year. Yeah, [that’s my excuse](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/06/dragon-quest-retrospective-dragon-quest-xs-history-of-disappointment-summer-flame-day-2021/)… June 28, 2021 Ugh… [so hot… can’t think…](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Western_North_America_heat_wave) pant, pant, pant… **\~~~ \~~~ \~~~** *Eventually…* August 18, 2021 It’s been a while, I really should get back to the Epic Rap Battle Retrospectives. Why in the world did I not? Oh, right. Hillary and the pumpkin. Well, I can’t avoid this one forever. But first… [**Alexander the Great vs. Ivan the Terrible**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVbH1BVXywY) I wrote an article about how videos like this [help teach history](https://www.dcgameblog.com/2021/05/teaching-history-with-the-epic-rap-battles/), and that totally was not my first attempt to avoid talking about the Trump vs. Clinton battle, I swear! My original plan was to continue this retrospective series by talking about this battle in its chronologically correct placement, but the next part is going to be full of what feels like non-standard battles, so I’m going to skip over this one for now and come back to it, if that’s alright? I want to deal with the madness first. No? Too bad. [**Donald Trump vs. Hillary Clinton![ERB-091](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ERB-091.jpg)**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kbryz0mxuMY) Best line: Probably depends on your own biases, but I think you know whose lines I’d be putting here. Holy shit!: ā€œCause this whole system’s rigged, and we all know the riggers: for the last 8 years, this country’s been run by-ā€ Well, time to face the ogre. I mean, one of them. There is the weapon called The Ogre in ***Final Fantasy IX*** when I finally get around to talking about that game in the ***Final Fantasy*** Retrospectives, but for now, this is the main ogre I have to worry about. It’s weird, looking back at the single term of Donald Trump, who lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden by a lot, and realize that while he did do a lot of harm to the United States and the rest of the world, we still managed to get out the other side and can hopefully recover. I’ll get into more of the effects of Trump’s presidency in a future part. Watching this video again reminds me of how worried everyone was when Trump won the election, especially with how intense his verse was in the battle. It actually did feel like the world was going to end once Trump burned everything to the ground, and although he didn’t succeed at destroying the world, it felt like he tried with all his might (when he wasn’t golfing at Mar-a-Lago, that is). Especially during the last year when COVID-19 spread throughout the world and he refused to do the bare minimum to try to contain it. I remember being in shock when Hillary Clinton lost, because with how ridiculous Trump was being during the lead up to the election, it felt like no one in their right mind would vote for a buffoon like that. But it turned out that 63 million American citizens were content to watch their country burn for four years, and some of them justified it by saying they weren’t voting for Trump, they were voting against Clinton. Inexplicably, a lot of them thought Trump did the best job of any US President and chose to vote for him a second time. More on that in a future post… [**Ash Ketchum vs. Charles Darwin![ERB-092](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ERB-092.jpg)**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC7H99-7wxk) Best line: ā€œDarwin wants to battle? Doesn’t seem like a fight, but this should be fun. I’ve yet to catch the Ghost type.ā€ Runner up: ā€œLook. Mighty Morphin’ Michael Vick. Your animated slave fights make me sick. When I battle a foe from so simple a beginning, I’m not Charles Sheen, but I am Dar-winning.ā€ Holy shit!: ā€œMan, if that’s true, then nature is cruel. ā€˜Cause the only thing you’re winning is your cousin’s gene pool. You lost three children, while they were still small. TB and scarlet fever, gotta catch ’em all!ā€ Like ***The Legend of Zelda***, the ***PokĆ©mon*** series is something that I really would like to get more into. Unlike *The Legend of Zelda*, I’ve actually partially played several *PokĆ©mon* games, including a used copy of ***PokĆ©mon: Special Pikachu Edition*** (also known as ā€œ***PokĆ©mon Yellow***ā€œ), a new copy of ***PokĆ©mon Soul Silver*** and a pirated version of ***PokĆ©mon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team***. It was while watching the archive of this morning’s PokĆ©mon Presents that I came to the decision that, once I finish the Epic Rap Battle Retrospectives, and maybe get a bit further in the ***Final Fantasy*** and ***Dragon Quest*** ones too, that I want to start a journey through every generation of *PokĆ©mon*. I won’t play every single game in the series, since technically each game has two separate versions, but they’re the same game anyway, so I’m planning on trying one version of each generation’s game and one version of each *Mystery Dungeon* game, as many of the spin-off titles as I can, and so on. I was quite charmed by the looks of some of the games presented this morning that I really wish that I had seriously gotten into *PokĆ©mon* sooner. Whereas I’m not really all that thrilled with the direction *The Legend of Zelda* seems to be going, which kills my desire to play all the games in that series – maybe I’ll just play it to a certain point – I’m liking what I’ve been seeing of the newest *PokĆ©mon* games, especially ***PokĆ©mon Legends: Arceus***. The series certainly has been… heh, evolving. [**Wonder Woman vs. Stevie Wonder![ERB-093](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ERB-093.jpg)**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7jL0NJ98Nc) Best line: ā€œYou’re Miss Independent, or at least you try, but your first story is you running off with a guy.ā€ Runner up: ā€œWell, I’m a woman who wonders what you’re thinking. Some of your records make me wish you started drinking. Even if I stick to the best selections, your YouTube videos raise some vision questions.ā€ Here’s something I find pretty interesting. The DC superheroes are a lot more iconic and well known, but the Marvel superheroes make for better movies. Maybe it’s because the DC superheroes don’t explore their own flaws or problems as much as the Marvel superheroes do. Superman’s function is not to worry about elderly relatives or develop a drinking problem to cope with life. Superman’s function is to fight crime and stand up for truth, justice and the American way, and apparently he doesn’t dwell too much on the destruction of his entire race. Batman is pretty much the only character who is allowed to be human, considering he has no powers. Granted, many DC superheroes do have tragic backstories, but it feels like only Batman is allowed to really explore his. The most introspective you usually see Superman is when someone writes a song about him. Otherwise, he stands tall and fights the bad guys because that’s just what he does. Also, Marvel’s superheroes are allowed to grow and change, but DC’s superheroes must remain exactly the same from one comic to the next. It makes it difficult to adapt any of their stories to the big screen because Superman won’t grow as a person. Look at the first Spider-Man film, directed by Sam Raimi. Peter Parker learns that his powers give him more responsibilities than normal people. If he has the power to stop an injustice, then he should stop that injustice. The second film is about giving him a healthy work life balance. In both films, Peter Parker is different at the end than he is at the start. Batman is capable of growing as a person, or at the very least, ending a film as a different person than he started. One of the greatest superhero films, in my opinion, is ***The Dark Knight***. The trouble is, everyone else thinks this too, so we’re stuck with a dark and dour DC movie universe until someone figures out what actually caused the film to be great, other than the atmosphere. Since DC superheroes rarely grow and change, it’s no wonder they do extremely well on television, where status quo is maintained more often than not. I remember enjoying watching ***Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman*** as well as both the Batman and Superman animated series from the 1990s. Marvel superheroes are also pretty decent on television as well. I watched a Spider-Man series on FOX Kids that I thoroughly enjoyed, and it had a strong sense of continuity about it, sort of like ***Gargoyles***. The difference between Marvel and DC is that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is really kicking DC’s butt. Admittedly, this makes it hard for me to want to watch any of the newer DC movies. I think the last one I watched just happens to be *The Dark Knight*. And a little bit of ***Aquaman***. I have heard that ***Wonder Woman*** is a good film, but I’ve yet to watch it. [**Tony Hawk vs. Wayne Gretzky![ERB-094](https://www.dcgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ERB-094.jpg)**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goMYHB2Grvg) Best line: ā€œTime out. Let’s talk about athletic achievements. You and I have so many world records between us. 184, that’s plenty of ’em… and I’ve set 183 of ’em!ā€ Runner up: ā€œFor true sports fans, this was finished as soon as they heard the matchup.ā€ It’s hilarious to me that much of the sports trading cards from the 1990s are barely any more valuable than they were thirty years ago when they were all originally released. At the time, there was a sudden explosion in ā€œcollectableā€ items, since certain old comics and trading cards were being sold for a lot of money. What no one bothered to figure out and realize is that the only reason things like Action Comics \#1 are valuable and rare is because most people didn’t take care of their copies when they were new, and very few pristine copies still exist. For now, though, this is the end of season 5, and I have one more season to go… Feel Free to Share
