Recipe FAQs My crust turned out soggy after cooking. What gives? It could be two things. First, make sure you parbake your crust in the oven on high heat until the bottom is solid and golden brown. This should take about 5 - 8 minutes. Next, ensure you're using pizza sauce and not pasta sauce! Pasta sauce has not been reduced enough to remove a lot of the extra liquid like pizza sauce is. A really fluid sauce can cause your pizza to be limp and soggy. How do you make homemade pizza in a cast iron skillet? It's super easy - I use this technique in my Cast Iron White Chicken Pizza . Essentially, you're going to partially cook the dough right in the skillet on the stovetop. Once it has a beautifully golden brown bottom, add your toppings and bake in the oven on high heat. I recommend a large cast iron for a perfectly-sized "personal pizza". Can I freeze homemade pan pizzas before baking? Yes, these freeze beautifully! And you can have frozen pizza on-demand whenever your family has a craving. 1. Parbake the crust for 8 minutes, then let cool completely. 2. Place the partially-baked crusts on a cardboard pizza round topped with parchment paper. 3. Add your sauce, cheeses, and any toppings you like. 4. Wrap the entire thing in plastic wrap (I do two layers to ensure it's completely covered), then add to the freezer. These keep in the freezer for up to 4 months. When you're ready to bake, use the parchment paper to easily transfer to a baking sheet and bake for 15 - 20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the sauce is bubbly.  If you tried this  Homemade Pan Pizza   Recipe , or any other recipe on my website, please leave a  star rating  and let me know how it went in the  comments below. Need more inspiration? I list some additional ideas for sauces, cheeses, and toppings below. ## How to Make Homemade Pizza in a Sheet Pan Assembling a pizza is a pretty straightforward process; you really want to just add items you like. So, I'm gonna give you guys my top tips & tricks to have the **best** homemade pan pizza - every time\! #### **The Dough** 1. Every good pizza starts with an amazing dough. Yeah, you can use store-bought stuff to save a little time... but I have a recipe on Coined Cuisine for [homemade pizza dough](https://www.coinedcuisine.com/no-rise-homemade-pizza-dough/) that's made in 10 minutes. It's absolutely stellar\! 2. Our dough recipe from above is going to be stretchy enough to shape into any sort of shape you need. I usually make my homemade pizzas on a 9x13 cookie sheet. 3. Also, if you're going with a homemade yeast dough like we're using today, be sure to poke holes all throughout the dough before parbaking (see below). That way, it won't puff up too much in the oven. ![A pizza pan containing homemade pizza dough, ready to be filled with toppings.](https://www.coinedcuisine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Pizza-dough5-1.jpg) ![A pizza pan containing homemade pizza dough, ready to be filled with toppings.](https://www.coinedcuisine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Pizza-dough5-1.jpg) #### **The Sauce** 1. I'm not super picky about my sauces... but some people are, and that's okay! You want to go with a store-bought or homemade sauce that is your favorite. Garlic & basil are my go-to tomato based flavors. 2. You can get creative with your sauces too... try a **white sauce**, **BBQ sauce**, or a **garlic + herb base**\! #### **The Cheese** 1. You need to shred your own cheese. I know, I know! It's one more dish to wash and a little more arm work. But it's truly ***so*** worth it. You get a much better melt, a better flavor, and you're able to make your own cheese blends\! 2. Speaking of blends... Don't be basic with your cheese. Add at least two different types of cheeses on your pizza. This recipe uses mozzarella and Monterey Jack, but you can also use **mozzarella + gouda**, **pepper jack + provolone**, or **goat cheese + parmesan**\! #### **The Toppings** 1. This is when you can go crazy. Pizza combinations are literally endless! Our family's favorite is **turkey pepperoni + sun-dried tomatoes + pesto**. You can also try **Italian sausage + sweet peppers**, or **seasoned chicken + caramelized onions**. ## Recipe FAQs **My crust turned out soggy after cooking. What gives?** It could be two things. ## Recipe FAQs **My crust turned out soggy after cooking. What gives?** It could be two things. **How do you make homemade pizza in a cast iron skillet?** It's super easy - I use this technique in my [Cast Iron White Chicken Pizza](https://www.coinedcuisine.com/cast-iron-white-chicken-pizza/). Essentially, you're going to partially cook the dough right in the skillet on the stovetop. Once it has a beautifully golden brown bottom, add your toppings and bake in the oven on high heat. I recommend a large cast iron for a perfectly-sized "personal pizza". **Can I freeze homemade pan pizzas before baking?** Yes, these freeze beautifully! And you can have frozen pizza on-demand whenever your family has a craving. 1\.
