| Boilerpipe Text | For me, there's always been good reason to research some of the cheapest, nicest
hotels in Paris
. Iâve travelled all around the world with my husband, but he refuses to visit the French capital, despite its obvious allure. His complaint about the City of Light is less about how expensive it is and more about what you get for your money. For the price of a spacious suite with a view in anotherÂ
European city
, here, this often equates to a shoebox with a pokey bathroom and window overlooking a back alley. There are, of course, some incredible hotels in Paris â among some of the best and most beautiful in the world. To reserve a fairytale room in one of these addresses requires deep pockets â a night atÂ
Cheval Blanc Paris
can reach into the thousands. Between the extraordinarily lavish and the woefully average, however, there are a handful of affordable gems.
These are our favourite reasonably priced, smart hotels in Paris with room rates under ÂŁ200 a night. Comfortable, stylish and well positioned, a stay in one of our recommendations will ensure you're left with spending money to enjoy the
best restaurants in Paris
and perhaps come home with a souvenir, too.
The Hoxton Paris, 2nd arrondissement
Set inside an 18th-century townhouse in the 2nd arrondissement, The Hoxton is the Shoreditch-born brandâs Parisian outpost, and itâs as stylish and hipster-chic as youâd expect. The 172 rooms are spread across four floors, with herringbone floors, brass details and vintage telephones that nod to mid-century cool. Categories run from the petite Shoebox to the spacious Biggy, but all share the same pared-back, quietly confident design.
Downstairs, the mood is lively: Rivie, the all-day brasserie, opens onto a plant-filled courtyard that hums from breakfast to late-night cocktails, while Jacquesâ Bar upstairs is a sultry hideaway for nightcaps. The buzzy ground floor is filled with Parisians on laptops by day and a fashionable crowd by night, cementing The Hoxtonâs role as more than a hotel - itâs an ultra-cool neighbourhood hangout.

Boudoir des Muses, 3rd arrondissement
Thereâs a definitive vibe to Boudoir de Muses â one thatâs romantic in an overt way, and unashamed of its provocative nature. Originally built in the 18th century, initially, it was home to a theatre whereby its actresses were renowned for having â shall we say â âloose moralsâ. But in a surprising turn of events it later became a convent. Now, association with its past is intended to be a respectful reflection of its history. We stayed in a suite which was beautifully spacious compared to Parisian boutique stays Iâve had in the past.
As with most of the smaller Parisian hotels, all the food and drink action happens in the same place â the propertyâs entrance is designed to be a comfortable lounge, bar and breakfast area. Pink and green velvet chairs frame gold-trimmed tables and, looking down from the higher floors of the building, you can see theyâve been arranged in the shape of a cross. At night, cocktails and tapas are served to accompany live DJ sets that last well into the evening. Underground, bookable private baths are available to hotel and external guests, as are a calendar of events: cabaret shows, tarot reading, self confidence workshops and guided meditations.

Hotel Rochechouart, 9th Arrondissement
Strolling through the Pigalle neighbourhood and into this eight-storey Art Deco relic, thereâs a distinct sense of a time when the Twenties roared. A late-night hotspot on boulevard Marguerite de Rochechouart, the hotelâs Jazz Age incarnation drew in travelling artists, intellectuals and a smattering of stars. Itâs now part of Orso, a new collection of hotels run by industry veterans Louis and Anouk Solanet (also behind Hotel Wallace below), and the sultry theatrics of the era make a welcome comeback. The couple teamed up with Charlotte de Tonnac and Hugo Sauzay of Festen Architecture to revive the buildingâs legacy with modern touches. Some of the finest original details were restored, from the Thirties blue mosaic floor in the restaurant to the marble staircase and glass lift.
Upstairs, 106 rooms were given an autumnal, woody touch with shades of bronze, ochre and terracotta. Decorative details, from the burl-wood headboards to the curved armchairs and alabaster suspension lamps, thoughtfully whisk guests to another time. The SacreÌ-Coeur looms large from northern-facing bedroom windows (and in some cases, balconies) but is visible to all from the rooftop bar. On the ground floor, an old-world brasserie with plush banquettes serves up comforting Parisian classics, from chicken-liver paÌteÌ to roasted pork belly with crisp
frites
and the signature creÌpe cake â a family recipe guests invariably try to coax out of the staff. One floor underground, the old Mikado club of the 1920s has returned as a dimly-lit speakeasy, where a trendy set sip cocktails on plush velvet sofas while a DJ spins electric beats in the corner. Next door, blue-hued Citrons et HuĂźtres is where locals perch at red metal tables on the pavement, throwing back fresh oysters from Brittany and chilled Champagne.

HÎtel de La Boétie, 8th arrondissement
Minutes from the Champs-ĂlysĂ©es, HĂŽtel de La BoĂ©tie's right bank address is far from chi-chi. It's plotted on an unassuming street which ultimately leads you onto a plethora of luxury stores. The 8th arrondissement is, after all, best known for its
shopping
. But there's more to this charismatic property than its location. Interiors are curated by
London
-based Swedish designer Beata Heuman who experiments with colour, texture and shape to make each corner of the property a visual delight. Handwoven tapestry headboards hang above pink sheets, which contrast glossy, forest-green bathroom tiles. It's a well-curated mix that leaves a lasting impression. Rooms are relatively small, the bar stocks a concise selection of drinks for those stopping in on route to dinner plans, and breakfast is a casual continental affair - all traits well-suited to a busy city agenda.

Le Pigalle
[Le Pigalle, 9th arrondissement](https://www.cntraveller.com/hotels/le-pigalle)
This little Parisienne in the heart of once-sketchy, now super-cool Pigalle (on the on the border of the 9th and the 18th arrondissements) is well thought through. Itâs from the group behind Instagram-famous Les Roches Rouges on the [CĂŽte d'Azur](https://www.cntraveller.com/gallery/small-hotels-in-the-south-of-france) , so we knew it would be. The rooms, which are small, are kitted out with Art Deco furniture and shelves stacked with well-curated photographs. There are turntables and a selection of vinyl as well as pre-mixed Negronis and Manhattans in bottles in the mini bar. Thereâs no denying the neighbourhood is lively at night â the hotel is on a strip just south of the Metro thatâs full of strip clubs and sex shops, but also fun bars such as Dirty Dick and Lipstick. Downstairs in the lobby, as well as a marble-topped co-working space, thereâs a red velvet curtain which pulls back to reveal a velvet banquet, neon sign and pole. Find young couples recovering from hangovers over a breakfast of avocado toast with cream cheese and croissants thatâs served until 4pm. For those seeking a cool sleepover within walking distance of a fun night out, this is the place to stay if youâre partying in Paris. *Tabitha Joyce*

## La Planque, 10th arrondissement
Paris might now offer its pick of affordable bijou boltholes, but when La Planque opened its doors a few years ago, it felt quite revolutionary at the time: a three-star address imagined by two big-name designers which proved that you donât always need to spend to stay in style. DorothĂ©e Delaye and DaphnĂ© Desjeux have since gone their separate ways design-wise, but together, they did a stellar job of transforming a former apartment block into 36 retro-chic rooms. The duoâs signature, a sombre palette of khaki, forest green, grey and rust, imbues each space with a sophisticated but nostalgic feel, enhanced by bespoke Art Deco-inspired furnishings such as curved velvet-clad headboards, oversized wall lights and old-fashioned writing desks complete with rotary dial telephones.
Downstairs in the library lounge, once a sweet shop, flamboyant fringing and plush velvets in jewel tones contrast the unfinished walls, raw wood table, and flea market finds. Thereâs also a tiny but cute terrace with sugary pink walls and blue Zellige-style tiles. And whilst thatâs it in terms of facilities, thereâs plenty to explore outside; start with Yann Couvreur patisserie just down the road and tap the hotel staff for their recommendations in nearby *bobo* (*bourgeois-bohĂšme*) magnets of Belleville and Canal Saint Martin. *Nicola Leigh Stewart*

## HĂŽtel des Academies et des Arts, 6th arrondissement
Back in Parisâ Belle Ăpoque heyday, rue de la Grande ChaumiĂšre fizzed with artistic talent. The whoâs who of the art world walked through the doors of the streetâs eponymous art academy (Marc Chagall and Fernand LĂ©ger, to namedrop just two), and the likes of Mucha and Gaugin hung out across the road at Chez Charlotte, still there now. Even Picasso lived nearby. Boutique hotel brand Chapitre Six has tapped into this energy and kept it alive with the opening of HĂŽtel des Academies et des Arts, a pocket-sized address housed in the building where Modigliani worked and where Franco-Japanese artist Fujita lived after arriving from Japan. Design studio LizĂ©e-Hugot was handed the keys to just 20 rooms and kept the design intentionally pared back in order to let your creativity wander. The result feels effortlessly cool; think white lime plaster walls, heavy oak wood furnishings, a smattering of artworks and colour, and in ten of the rooms, ceilings stepped in as canvases for artist Franck Lebraly to create his Surrealist- and Cubist-inspired pastel frescoes.
Handmade chunky iron nails along each wall are a more abstract nod to the art world, referencing the spaces reserved for as yet unhung masterpieces. You might feel like creating your own in the downstairs atelier with easels, sketchbooks and pencils. For those struggling to unlock their inner artist, the hotel has partnered with the famed art school across the street, AcadĂ©mie de la Grande ChaumiĂšre, to offer guests lessons. If that doesnât work, try sleeping in Modiglianiâs former studio to find creative inspiration: book room 52 to give it a go. The hotel also hosts rotating exhibitions from more current artists - guests are welcome to attend the vernissage (opening night) if it falls during their stay â and art in all its forms is also for sale around the hotel, so donât be shy about asking if something catches your eye. You mightâve just spotted the next Picasso. *Nicola Leigh Stewart*

## HĂŽtel les Deux Gares, 10th arrondissement
Itâs hard to imagine that a single corner of the French capital has been left unexplored by hoteliers over the past decade. But, as proven by Adrien Gloaguenâs spot â steps from the Eurostar terminal in unsung Little India â there are still overlooked pockets to be happened upon. When he first visited the site, then a glum two-star number, and saw the skyline views over the train tracks linking two of the cityâs main stations, he knew that he could make something special of it. And that the right person for the job would be British wunderkind Luke Edward Hall. The interior designerâs first project is full of joy, with nods to the past everywhere but also contemporary excitement. The Haussmann-style corner building is awash with bold colour combinations, which is what drew the creative crowd who booked out the place even before it opened.
âItâs my own, very personal and playful take on Parisian style,â says Edward Hall. French antiques sit next to mid-century lamps; checkerboard contrasts with leopard print, and there are [Seventies](https://www.cntraveller.com/gallery/seventies-interiors) geometric carpets alongside Art Deco details. Edward Hall also transformed the tired bar across the street into the [CafeÌ Les Deux Gares](https://www.cntraveller.com/gallery/beautiful-restaurants-paris#bGZP2bQoB3a). The bistro already has a following of locals and food writers who feast on a lunch menu of plates such as succulent pork loin with beetroot, washed down with natural wines. It takes a bold move to persuade savvy travellers to loiter near the [stations](https://www.cntraveller.com/gallery/best-uk-breaks-train) but the duo behind this hotel have cracked it. The fifth-floor suites with their balconies from which to admire the wide-open skies, a rare thing in Europeâs second-most densely populated city. *Rooksana Hossenally*

## Maison Mere, 9th arrondissement
Thereâs a very â*Honey*, Iâm Home!â vibe at this cosy new addition to the hip 9th arrondissement in between metro Cadet and market street rue des Martyrs. The subtle nods come in the form of a honeycomb-shaped logo, which is first seen in the intricate floral mosaic upon entering, and then again in the bathrooms via the cloud-colored hexagonal shower tiles that shout âso fresh! so clean! so shiny!â (The *RĂȘve de Miel* Nuxe bath products help, too.) But then thereâs also the more obvious Hey Honey restaurant where an appropriately sweet brut bubbly is served alongside tasty small, shared plates such as roasted curried cauliflower and oyster mushroom ravioli with crunchy hazelnuts from chef Santiago Guerrero. (Breakfast in the same space is buffet style, but thereâs an all-day, a la carte dining menu, too, featuring the likes of a quinoa salad with roasted pumpkin and a Cuban sandwich with yucca fries.)
Beyond all the references to a beesâ nectarâand itâs far more clever than it is kitschyâthe property does feel like oneâs arrived in a place of familiarity and comfort. In fact, guests may even see dogs roaming about as the hotel welcomes four-legged friendsâgoing so far as to put water bowls and treats in the room for those traveling with one. In addition, each of the 51 varying room sizes and two suites highlight a mix of artwork and otherworldly objects such as line drawings of fashionistas and black onyx vases. Everything, as cheekily explained on a printed index card, is for sale. Over in the common areas that flank the small lobby, guests can rest on a bubblegum pink, curved â70s sofa after a day of shopping or touring, or co-work with business associates in front of the smart TV around a long wooden conference table thatâs surrounded by wingback chairs. In all, itâs a sweet place to call *Maison* for the night. *Sara Lieberman*

## Hotel Bienvenue, 9th arrondissement
Just 10 minutesâ walk from the Gare du Nord, this is a very affordable Art Deco-style option in South Pigalle. The hotel is part of the portfolio of Adrien Gloaguen (the independent hotelier behind nearby Hotel Panache and Hotel Paradis) sits on the grounds of the old Hotel Fenelon. But itâs no surprise that as the area has raised its game â itâs a favourite among the hipster set â so has this hotel. ChloĂ© NĂšgre is behind the smart interiors, and her carefully manicured touches (candy pink and white stripes and floral armchairs, a plant-filled courtyard with a patterned floor) have been popping up all over social media. The bedrooms, in pastel shades with huge matching velvet headboards and geometric-patterned carpets, are pretty mini, but nonetheless make for a great Parisian pied-Ă -terre, as the hotel is walking distance from the Tuileries Garden and the Marais. *Tabitha Joyce*

## Babel Belleville, 20th arrondissement
Stepping away from the bustling boulevard de Belleville in the 20th arrondissement and into this 31-bedroom hotel feels almost like walking into a souk in Marrakech, with glass lanterns, *tomette* tiles and tapestry-covered armchairs. Owner Joris Bruneelâs dream was to honour the neighbourhoodâs rich multiculturalism. He employed prolific boutique-hotel designer DaphneÌ Desjeux to take inspiration from the locale, as well as the Silk Road and the eponymous biblical fable in her rich aesthetic. He also wanted to involve the community â such as local street artist 13 Bis who did the clever Adam and Eve bathroom murals, while Franco-Afghan chef Clarie Feral Akram serves pesto babka topped with tahini in the excellent restaurant. Not only that, but the hotel works with the nearby town hall to help those in need of emergency housing for a few nights and, in a collaboration with the Refugee Food Festival, provides nine-month internships to chefs from war-torn countries. Saturday lunches, however, are all about the *mamans du quartier*, who come in to cook their own cuisine, be it Algerian couscous or Damascus *muhammara*.
In the minimalist rooms, thoughtful details make up for missing mainstays such as robes and TVs. There are jars filled with tea or ground coffee from local roastery La BruÌlerie de Jourdain. But the most clever touch is the framed photographs on the walls. âWe asked all our friends to send us the best pictures from their travels,â says Bruneel. Thereâs one of his friendâs kids in Kabul, and another featuring the managerâs girlfriend in Boliviaâs salt marshes. Babel is a rare thing â a new hotel with a tangible soul. *Sara Lieberman*

| Readable Markdown | For me, there's always been good reason to research some of the cheapest, nicest [hotels in Paris](https://www.cntraveller.com/gallery/paris-hotels). Iâve travelled all around the world with my husband, but he refuses to visit the French capital, despite its obvious allure. His complaint about the City of Light is less about how expensive it is and more about what you get for your money. For the price of a spacious suite with a view in another [European city](https://www.cntraveller.com/gallery/cheapest-city-breaks-in-europe), here, this often equates to a shoebox with a pokey bathroom and window overlooking a back alley. There are, of course, some incredible hotels in Paris â among some of the best and most beautiful in the world. To reserve a fairytale room in one of these addresses requires deep pockets â a night at [Cheval Blanc Paris](https://cna.st/affiliate-link/RxYrVJ2FDJxYwbfKFmF5RZkp1vJbVBUU3UAH9B4qmnazJQRkpztGdJK1QTXkVtuyLzjFsAvaAmWBKjE71pvH8MCQoou2v9gKvmyJMuWbGEF9vkMxmwQEFaKynodpCUWN4kNsJVeT51fCrUrx2ifVFm7aDxT5zh8EiQecvViwUusjgsK5XjVeKRsHahionQbbWtJZvgQDjzKPPScs6ZNoTyDFhjC4LZBSZ5rd8XPrfMPHTZfSxDv8BxiaMwPDEb9TbWhrECdceHpKWRCgCBWgDawvKiLfSgg1v7iFdURtJfhVDDQZkxYajv2KBxNiCz) can reach into the thousands. Between the extraordinarily lavish and the woefully average, however, there are a handful of affordable gems.

- [The Hoxton Paris, 2nd arrondissement](https://www.cntraveller.com/hotels/paris/the-hoxton-paris-hotel-review)
*Anita Bhagwandas*

- [Boudoir des Muses, 3rd arrondissement](https://www.cntraveller.com/hotels/paris/boudoir-des-muses)
*Sarah Bannerman*

- [Hotel Rochechouart, 9th Arrondissement](https://www.cntraveller.com/hotels/paris/hotel-rochechouart-paris-review)
On the ground floor, an old-world brasserie with plush banquettes serves up comforting Parisian classics, from chicken-liver paÌteÌ to roasted pork belly with crisp *frites* and the signature creÌpe cake â a family recipe guests invariably try to coax out of the staff. *Jessica Rach*

- [HÎtel de La Boétie, 8th arrondissement](https://www.cntraveller.com/hotels/hotel-de-la-boetie-paris)
Minutes from the Champs-ĂlysĂ©es, HĂŽtel de La BoĂ©tie's right bank address is far from chi-chi. It's plotted on an unassuming street which ultimately leads you onto a plethora of luxury stores. The 8th arrondissement is, after all, best known for its [shopping](https://www.cntraveller.com/gallery/best-shopping-in-paris). But there's more to this charismatic property than its location. Interiors are curated by [London](https://www.cntraveller.com/topic/london)\-based Swedish designer Beata Heuman who experiments with colour, texture and shape to make each corner of the property a visual delight.
**Price:** Rooms from around ÂŁ180 per night
