The opening ceremony will take place in Guangzhou, while the closing ceremony will be held in Shenzhen, according to a press conference held by the Organizing Committee of the 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China on April 11, 2024 in Guangzhou.  Zhang Xin, Director of the Competitive Sports Department of the General Administration of Sport of China, stated that the 15th National Games will consist of competitive sports events and mass events. The competitive sports events will include 34 major events and 401 minor events, while the mass events will include 23 major events and 166 minor events. It is expected that more than 15 cities in Guangdong province, as well as Hong Kong and Macao, will host the competitions. The competitive sports events of the 15th National Games will be based on Olympic events, with the addition of non-Olympic events in diving, weightlifting, track cycling, rowing, and other sports. Basketball, football, and volleyball have been added to youth group events. Martial arts events have been incorporated as well. In the mass events category, the 15th National Games will not only feature popular sports like table tennis and badminton but will also include events with Lingnan characteristics such as dragon dancing and lion dancing. Guangdong will host the majority of the Games' events. Hong Kong will host competitive sports events including U22 men's basketball, track cycling, fencing, golf, men's handball, 7-a-side rugby, triathlon, and beach volleyball. Mass events such as bowling will also take place in Hong Kong. Macao, on the other hand, will host the competitive sports events of table tennis, women's volleyball for the adult group, three-person basketball, and U18 men's basketball, as well as the karate event in the mass events category. In addition, the Organizing Committee of the 15th National Games is also planning race routes for marathon and road cycling events that connect Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. This will be the first time that the National Games are jointly held by multiple locations, and it will also mark the first occasion where Hong Kong and Macao serve as hosts for the National Games.
