Lab #5: Hooke's law
Purpose:
The primary objective of this experiment was to investigate Hooke's Law, which describes the
behavior of springs and other elastic materials. Hooke's Law states that the restoring force of a
spring is directly proportional to the displacement of the spring. In this experiment, we aimed to
verify whether the results conform to Hooke's Law by measuring the displacements of various
springs, each with different spring constants, and subjecting them to varying weights to assess
their elasticity.
Results:
According to Hooke's law, the restoring force of a spring or other elastic material is directly
proportional to the distance the spring is stretched or compressed. This could be measured
using the restoring force equation: Fsp=āk ā x. During this experiment, we measured the
displacements of three springs, each with varying spring constants. We added different
increments of weights to see the effect on the elasticity. Determining whether our experiment
results, such as the graphs and collected measurements, were in obedience to Hooke's law.
