| Boilerpipe Text | Three defending champions are in action on Day 1 of the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships 2026.
An Se Young aims to become the first woman to retain her women’s singles title since Tai Tzu Ying in 2018.
She begins against Neslihan Arin of Turkey, with their match taking place fourth on 12BET Court on Tuesday.
Third seed Chen Yu Fei gets underway against Malvika Bansod of India in the third match on court 4, with the 2019 champion the last Chinese shuttler to triumph in the women’s singles.
No Thai player has ever won an All England title, and Pornpawee Chochuwong is hoping to change that with the eighth seed taking on Unnati Hooda in the eighth match on the Minoru Yoneyama court.
British hope Kirsty Gilmour has had to withdraw with injury, and that means Kim Ga Eun will play Huang Yu-Hsun on Court 4, with their match taking place after 1:40pm.
The men’s singles champion Shi Yu Qi takes on Lakshya Sen in arguably the match of the day.
India’s Sen was a semi-finalist in 2024 and currently sits at number 12 in the world, but has only beaten Shi once in their five meetings.
They meet third on Minoru Yoneyama court, with Shi hoping to get his season back on track, having not played since reaching the Petronas Malaysia Open final in January.
Two European seeds also get their campaigns underway with third seed Anders Antonsen taking on Koki Watanabe in the final match on the Minoru Yoneyama Court.
Meanwhile, European champion Alex Lanier is hoping to go a couple better than his 2025 tournament, where he reached the semi-finals. The Frenchman faces Canada’s Victor Lai in match 5 on the 12Bet Court.
In the men’s doubles, Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae begin their defence against home hopes Ben Lane and Sean Vendy.
They play in the sixth match on the Minoru Yoneyama Court at approximately 2:10pm GMT.
Last year’s beaten finalists Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana take on Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei in a rematch of the 2025 quarter-final. Their match opens up 12 BET Court at 10:10am.
Top seeds Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China kick off the women’s doubles when they take on Hu Ling Fang and Jheng Yu Chieh of Chinese Taipei.
Liu and Tan are yet to lose in 2026, having won both the Malaysia Open and India Open in January, and are the first match on Court 4 at 10:10am.
Two former champions are in action, albeit with different partners than with whom they won their All England titles.
The 2019 winner, Jia Yi Fan, and her partner, Zhang Shu Xian, take on Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum in the fourth match on the Minoru Yoneyama Court.
Meanwhile, 2020 champion Sayaka Hirota and her new partner Ayako Sakuramoto play Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela in the eighth match on Court 4.
Top seeds Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping kick off against the only mixed-nation team in the mixed doubles draw, Hee Yong Kai Terry of Singapore and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja of Indonesia.
Feng and Huang were temporarily in different partnerships last year, but have reunited as they aim to win their first YONEX All England. Their quest begins with the opening match on the Minoru Yoneyama Court at 10am.
India Open runners-up Alexandra Bøje and Mathias Christiansen take on Yang Po-Hsuan and Hu Ling Fang in the ninth match on Minoru Yoneyama Court.
This is the one they all want to win. This is the YONEX All England. Secure your seats today:
