Equinox EV
2027
Chevrolet
MSRP
HIGHS
Class-leading electric range, thrifty starting price, smooth and stable ride.
LOWS
Pokey front-wheel-drive model, gas-powered Equinox offers more cargo space, no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
VERDICT
The Chevrolet Equinox appeals with an affordable starting price and respectable electric driving range, but multiple rivals offer better amenities and more cargo space for only a little more dough.
By
Austin Parsons
Overview
If affordable, efficient A to B electric transport is what you're after, the Chevrolet Equinox EV should be on your test-drive list. The base 220-hp front-wheel-drive model offers a cost-effective starting price and the lineup's maximum electric driving range, although its acceleration is tepid. Stepping up to the significantly more potent all-wheel-drive powertrain grants 300 horsepower and a more energetic experience behind the wheel without giving up much range.
You won't find many frills in the Equinox EV's interior—this is Chevy's entry-level
electric compact SUV
offering, after all—but its seats are comfortable, and a large 17.7-inch touchscreen keeps its tech suite up to date. Competing models such as the
Ford Mustang Mach-E
and
Hyundai Ioniq 5
offer more performance and cargo space, but those models can't beat the Equinox EV's price.
Expert Tip:
If the Equinox EV's compact footprint isn't spacious enough for your needs, take a look at the mid-size
Blazer EV
.
What's New for 2027?
The Chevrolet Equinox EV is still relatively new, joining the field of available compact EV SUVs in 2024. It has received a few minor tweaks since then, but we don’t expect anything new for the 2027 model year.

Pricing and Which One to Buy
The base price of the front-drive LT is tempting, but we'd make sure to check the box for the more powerful all-wheel-drive powertrain. Then we'd add the Comfort and Active Safety 2 packages, as that gets you heated front seats, a 360-degree camera system, and a handful of driver-assistance features.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
EV Motors:
220-hp single motor, 300-hp dual motor
Drivetrains:
front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive
Front-wheel-drive Equinox EVs come with a single electric motor that makes 220 horsepower; opting for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive system ups the power to 300 ponies. The front-wheel-drive powertrain doesn't exhibit the same kind of immediate thrust that’s typical of electric vehicles, and we found it sluggish in our drive of the Equinox EV. We recommend the all-wheel-drive setup, which is significantly more potent and gives the Equinox EV a more energetic demeanor. Ride quality is comfortable, the steering is well-weighted, and we like that you can select from among multiple levels of regenerative braking, including a one-pedal driving mode.
0–60-MPH Times
C/D
60-mph Test
: 7.7 seconds (FWD), 5.8 seconds (AWD)
In Comparison:
Most of the Equinox EV's competitors blow it out of the water from an acceleration standpoint. In our testing, the
Ioniq 5 SEL AWD
hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and the
Mustang Mach-E GT Performance
hit the mile-a-minute mark in just 3.7 seconds.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
C/D
Range Test:
260 miles
All Equinox EV models have the same size battery pack, although the range estimates vary depending on powertrain configuration. Front-wheel-drive models offer up to 319 miles of range per EPA estimates, while the all-wheel-drive version drops that down to 307 miles.
In our real-world 75-mph highway range test, both versions of the Equinox EV delivered a result of 260 miles. All models come with DC fast-charging capability, which Chevrolet says can add 70 miles of range to the battery in as little as 10 minutes.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
C/D
75-mph Highway Fuel-Economy Test:
91 MPGe (AWD)
EPA City Ratings:
103-117 MPGe
EPA Highway Ratings:
88-100 MPGe
The EPA has rated the Equinox EV at 117 MPGe city and 100 MPGe highway for the front-wheel-drive model and up to 112 MPGe city and 95 MPGe for the all-wheel-drive version. In our 75-mph real-world highway fuel-economy test of the all-wheel-drive Equinox EV, we recorded a result of 91 MPGe. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent,
an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency
. For more information about the Equinox EV's fuel economy, visit
the EPA's website
.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
First Row:
Inside, buyers will find a digital dashboard similar to that of the
Silverado EV
, as well as a large 17.7-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard. Base models are fairly basic and lack even power-adjustable front seats, but moving up to the higher trims unlocks plenty of features, including heated seats, power seats, a sunroof, and dual-zone climate control.
Second Row:
The Equinox EV's back seat is reasonably spacious, and adult occupants of average size have plenty of headroom and legroom.
Cargo Capacity:
At 57 cubic feet with the rear seat stowed, the Equinox EV's cargo capacity isn't quite as capacious as the gasoline-powered model.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Infotainment:
17.7-inch touchscreen
Connectivity:
Bluetooth, integrated Google Maps and Spotify
Audio System:
six-speaker audio system, seven-speaker Bose audio system
Every Equinox EV comes with an 11.0-inch digital gauge display with a 17.7-inch secondary touchscreen for infotainment. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone-mirroring capabilities are not offered, but the infotainment system does include built-in apps such as Google Maps and Spotify, and uplevel models get in-dash navigation and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
All models ship with basic driver-assistance features as standard, including automated emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlamps, and lane-keeping assist. For buyers seeking the most up-to-date tech, the Equinox EV is offered with GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system.
Standard Safety Features:
automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
Optional Safety Features:
adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode
For information about the Equinox EV's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (
NHTSA
) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (
IIHS
) websites.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Chevrolet provides standard coverage limits for the Equinox EV's electric powertrain components. It also includes the first maintenance visit, but overall coverage doesn't come close to that of the
Hyundai Ioniq 5
.
Limited Warranty:
three years or 36,000 miles
Powertrain Warranty:
five years or 60,000 miles
Electric Components:
eight years or 100,000 miles
Complimentary Maintenance:

## **Overview**
If affordable, efficient A to B electric transport is what you're after, the Chevrolet Equinox EV should be on your test-drive list. The base 220-hp front-wheel-drive model offers a cost-effective starting price and the lineup's maximum electric driving range, although its acceleration is tepid. Stepping up to the significantly more potent all-wheel-drive powertrain grants 300 horsepower and a more energetic experience behind the wheel without giving up much range.
You won't find many frills in the Equinox EV's interior—this is Chevy's entry-level [**electric compact SUV**](https://www.caranddriver.com/rankings/best-suvs/electric/compact) offering, after all—but its seats are comfortable, and a large 17.7-inch touchscreen keeps its tech suite up to date. Competing models such as the [**Ford Mustang Mach-E**](https://www.caranddriver.com/ford/mustang-mach-e) and [**Hyundai Ioniq 5**](https://www.caranddriver.com/hyundai/ioniq-5) offer more performance and cargo space, but those models can't beat the Equinox EV's price.
**Expert Tip:** If the Equinox EV's compact footprint isn't spacious enough for your needs, take a look at the mid-size [**Blazer EV**](https://www.caranddriver.com/chevrolet/blazer-ev).
## **What's New for 2027?**
The Chevrolet Equinox EV is still relatively new, joining the field of available compact EV SUVs in 2024. It has received a few minor tweaks since then, but we don’t expect anything new for the 2027 model year.

## What's Your Car Worth?
Car and Driver calculates your car's value in **three free and easy steps** - using the same Black Book® data dealers use to appraise vehicles.
[Get your trade-in value](https://www.caranddriver.com/car-value-estimator/?origin=mmpInline)
## **Pricing and Which One to Buy**
The base price of the front-drive LT is tempting, but we'd make sure to check the box for the more powerful all-wheel-drive powertrain. Then we'd add the Comfort and Active Safety 2 packages, as that gets you heated front seats, a 360-degree camera system, and a handful of driver-assistance features.
## **EV Motor, Power, and Performance**
- **EV Motors:** 220-hp single motor, 300-hp dual motor
- **Drivetrains:** front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive
## **0–60-MPH Times**
- ***C/D* 60-mph Test**: 7.7 seconds (FWD), 5.8 seconds (AWD)
**In Comparison:** Most of the Equinox EV's competitors blow it out of the water from an acceleration standpoint. In our testing, the [**Ioniq 5 SEL AWD**](https://www.caranddriver.com/hyundai/ioniq-5) hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and the [**Mustang Mach-E GT Performance**](https://www.caranddriver.com/ford/mustang-mach-e) hit the mile-a-minute mark in just 3.7 seconds.

## **Range, Charging, and Battery Life**
- ***C/D* Range Test:** 260 miles
All Equinox EV models have the same size battery pack, although the range estimates vary depending on powertrain configuration. Front-wheel-drive models offer up to 319 miles of range per EPA estimates, while the all-wheel-drive version drops that down to 307 miles.
In our real-world 75-mph highway range test, both versions of the Equinox EV delivered a result of 260 miles. All models come with DC fast-charging capability, which Chevrolet says can add 70 miles of range to the battery in as little as 10 minutes.
## **Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe**
- ***C/D* 75-mph Highway Fuel-Economy Test:** 91 MPGe (AWD)
- **EPA City Ratings:** 103-117 MPGe
- **EPA Highway Ratings:** 88-100 MPGe
The EPA has rated the Equinox EV at 117 MPGe city and 100 MPGe highway for the front-wheel-drive model and up to 112 MPGe city and 95 MPGe for the all-wheel-drive version. In our 75-mph real-world highway fuel-economy test of the all-wheel-drive Equinox EV, we recorded a result of 91 MPGe. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, [**an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency**](https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a31863350/what-is-mpge/). For more information about the Equinox EV's fuel economy, visit [**the EPA's website**](https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.shtml).
## **Interior, Comfort, and Cargo**
**First Row:** Inside, buyers will find a digital dashboard similar to that of the [**Silverado EV**](https://www.caranddriver.com/chevrolet/silverado-ev), as well as a large 17.7-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard. Base models are fairly basic and lack even power-adjustable front seats, but moving up to the higher trims unlocks plenty of features, including heated seats, power seats, a sunroof, and dual-zone climate control.
**Second Row:** The Equinox EV's back seat is reasonably spacious, and adult occupants of average size have plenty of headroom and legroom.
**Cargo Capacity:** At 57 cubic feet with the rear seat stowed, the Equinox EV's cargo capacity isn't quite as capacious as the gasoline-powered model.

## **Infotainment and Connectivity**
- **Infotainment:** 17.7-inch touchscreen
- **Connectivity:** Bluetooth, integrated Google Maps and Spotify
- **Audio System:** six-speaker audio system, seven-speaker Bose audio system
Every Equinox EV comes with an 11.0-inch digital gauge display with a 17.7-inch secondary touchscreen for infotainment. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone-mirroring capabilities are not offered, but the infotainment system does include built-in apps such as Google Maps and Spotify, and uplevel models get in-dash navigation and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot.
## **Safety and Driver-Assistance Features**
All models ship with basic driver-assistance features as standard, including automated emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlamps, and lane-keeping assist. For buyers seeking the most up-to-date tech, the Equinox EV is offered with GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system.
- **Standard Safety Features:** automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- **Optional Safety Features:** adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode
For information about the Equinox EV's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ([NHTSA](https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings)) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ([IIHS](https://www.iihs.org/)) websites.
## **Warranty and Maintenance Coverage**
Chevrolet provides standard coverage limits for the Equinox EV's electric powertrain components. It also includes the first maintenance visit, but overall coverage doesn't come close to that of the [**Hyundai Ioniq 5**](https://www.caranddriver.com/hyundai/ioniq-5).
- **Limited Warranty:** three years or 36,000 miles
- **Powertrain Warranty:** five years or 60,000 miles
- **Electric Components:** eight years or 100,000 miles
- **Complimentary Maintenance:** first visit
## ***C/D* Test Results and Specs**
Each year, we put hundreds of vehicles through our [rigorous instrumented testing regimen](https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a32018270/how-we-test-cars/). If the data in the chart below is for a different model year, that's because this vehicle hasn't changed from when we last tested it, and the test results remain accurate.
