Your efforts made a real difference
Calgarians and our regional customers in Airdrie, Chestermere, Strathmore and Tsuut'ina Nation stepped up quickly to save water, adjusted daily routines and stuck with it. Households, businesses, schools and organizations all played a role.
These collective actions helped protect essential water service when it mattered most. We once again showed resilience and care for one another and our community.Â

Lifting of Stage 4 Outdoor City Potable Water Use Restrictions
What's coming up – pipe inspection
This year, we have a planned pipe inspection where we will place a mechanical device called a PipeDiver in part of the feeder main to assess its condition. Our crews will have to briefly stop water flow to remove the PipeDiver, and then conduct water quality testing before restarting the pumps.
Because of the short duration of this work, we do not expect water restrictions to be needed. However, this could change if unexpected issues arise.
Some habits are hard to break – and you don’t have to
Calgary is a growing city on two small rivers. Many of the simple water-saving habits you’ve built over the last month, like full loads of laundry or finding other small ways to save water, are worth keeping up.
With high demand and limited supply, everyday water conservation is critical and helps support our long-term water supply.
Stay prepared for water restrictions
Even though the reinforcement work is complete, there is still a risk of failure until the new parallel pipe is in place. There will also be another planned feeder main shutdown this fall as we bring the new replacement pipe online. Â
During the planned shutdown this fall, or if another break happens at any time, we will once again need everyone’s help to save water.
Timelines for the planned shutdown have not yet been confirmed. As planning continues and schedules are finalized, we will share information with Calgarians as early as possible so people have time to prepare.
