The sharp move in Europe outpaced Oracle’s after-hours rally in New York on Tuesday and lifted other tech counters, including German software giant SAP. The rally also catapulted Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison closer to overtaking Elon Musk as the world’s richest person. His wealth rose by US$70 billion to US$364 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, leaving him just behind Musk’s US$384 billion. If the gains hold, it would mark the biggest single-day increase ever recorded in the index. Oracle’s stock had already gained 45% this year before Tuesday’s results. It then jumped more than 26% in extended trading, the steepest one-day surge since 1999, after reporting stronger-than-expected quarterly results and forecasting further growth in cloud infrastructure.
