## Ingredients
- 12 oz. beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 1 (8-oz) carton sour cream
- 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tsp. instant beef bouillon
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium), cut into thin wedges
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 cup sliced fresh button or cremini mushrooms
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 2 cups hot cooked noodles
## Directions
1. ### Prep Meat
Trim fat from meat. Thinly slice meat across the grain into bite-size strips. In a small bowl stir together sour cream and flour. Stir in water, bouillon granules, and pepper; set aside.
**Test Kitchen Tip:** Putting the beef in the freezer for a quick 15 to 20 minutes will firm up the meat, allowing for easier slicing.
2. ### Stir-Fry Meat and Veggies
In a large skillet cook and stir the meat, mushrooms, onion, and garlic in hot butter over medium-high heat for 5 minutes or until desired doneness. Drain off fat.
3. ### Sauce It Up
Stir sour cream mixture into skillet. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir for 1 minute more. Serve over noodles.
**Saucy Addition:** Make your sauce extra special by adding 1/4 cup dry white wine in this step. Serve the rest of the bottle of wine with dinner\!

## What Is Beef Stroganoff?
Beef stroganoff originated in 19th-century Russia and was named after Russian diplomat Count Paul Stroganoff. The dish involves beef in a savory sour cream sauce that's thickened with flour. Usually it's served over noodles and contain additional ingredients such as [mushrooms](https://www.bhg.com/recipes/how-to/cooking-basics/how-to-clean-mushrooms/), onions, and garlic.
## Beef Stroganoff Ingredients
Here's what you'll need to make this easy beef stroganoff recipe.
- **Beef:** We use thinly cut boneless beef sirloin in this recipe, but you could also swap in a boneless ribeye, steak tips, or beef tenderloin.
- **Sour Cream:** Plain, full-fat [sour cream](https://www.bhg.com/recipes/how-to/cooking-basics/sour-cream-substitute/) is what gives the sauce its signature tang. Plain Greek yogurt would also work here.
- **Beef Bouillon:** Instant beef bouillon adds a deep savory flavor that tastes like its been cooking for hours.
- **Mushrooms:** Use [cremini or button mushrooms](https://www.bhg.com/recipes/how-to/cooking-basics/how-to-saute-mushrooms/) to give the sauce an extra meaty boost.
