Tensions between title rivals Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri reached a new high as their McLaren team clinched the constructors' championship at the Singapore Grand Prix.
Norris slid into Piastri in passing him at the first corner at the start of the race, leading the Australian to claim it was "not fair" the team did not ask them to reverse positions.
George Russell took his second victory of the season from Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who spent the closing laps holding off an attack from Norris.
Piastri closed in on the pair in the closing stages after being delayed by a slow pit stop but had to settle for fourth.
Piastri's championship lead over Norris was cut to 22 points with six races to go. Verstappen has also closed in and is 63 adrift of the lead.

Will there be further drama when the season touches down in Austin in two weeks' time?
Thanks for joining us this weekend, folks. George Russell can go and party the night away following his fifth career victory.
We'll be back for the United States Grand Prix from 17-19 October - and it's also a sprint weekend, so the one and only practice session on Friday starts at 18:30 BST.

Five-second time penalty for Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton was struggling with a brake issue at the end of the race and faced late pressure from the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso for his seventh place.
The Ferrari driver was under investigations by the stewards, and he's now been handed a five-second-time penalty for "leaving the track without a justifiable reason, multiple times", which was not contested by Hamilton nor his team representative.
The penalty drops Hamilton below Alonso in the classification, so he finishes eighth and the Spaniard takes his seventh spot.
'I would say this was probably my most dominant weekend'

Mercedes driver George Russell spoke to Sky Sports after a dominant win in Singapore:
"I was struggling on Friday, I was struggling Saturday morning, and even in Q1 didn't feel great, but come Q3, I felt really on it. And the race today, the start was mega. Stint one was probably one of the best stints I have done in my career, to pull that 10-second gap to Max, and that was ultimately what gave us the win.
"There is usually a lot of overheating on this circuit, but they re-Tarmaced some of the corners, and for whatever reason, the tyres weren't overheating as much. I think that was the reason.
The Mercedes driver also spoke about finishing higher than Ferrari:
"We have consistently been doing a better job than Ferrari. Kimi obviously had a tough run of form, but he has found his way, and he's been exceptionally quick this weekend. And it didn't really work out for him in qualifying, but he was almost leading the way on Friday.
Russell also spoke about whether this was his favourite win:
"Vegas was a pretty cool, to be honest. But I would say this was probably my most dominant weekend, all in all, and because it was so unexpected."
Keeping cool
published at 16:14 BST 5 October 2025
Liam Lawson and Carlos Sainz have ditched as many items of clothing as possible to do their media duties, while George Russell and Lando Norris had to sit on the floor and cool off before their podium interviews. Singapore was declared a 'heat hazard' race by the FIA because of the gruelling conditions at Marina Bay this year, so drivers have certainly earned that ice bath tonight.

'We already lost way too many points in the beginning of the season'
published at 16:10 BST 5 October 2025

Four-time world champion Max Verstappen spoke to Sky Sports about the issues he faced today in the car:
"I think the problem we had in general today was that nothing went smooth. I had a lot of issues with the shifts, the downshifting and upshifting, it was difficult to go into corners, and the balance of the car wasn't as I expected it to be, and there I had to manage, and basically it was very difficult to be consistent.
"I have it quite often, but this one was very bad. I have no idea what happened there.
Verstappen also spoke about whether he feels he is still in the championship race:
"For that, you need to win, you need to dominate. We are not doing that, at least we are not going that this weekend. We are not catching up enough. For that, you had to win today. We already lost way too many points in the beginning of the season, but we just try to see it race by race, we do the best we can."
'It's great that teamwork is rewarded like this' - Stella
published at 16:04 BST 5 October 2025
McLaren
team principal Andrea Stella on winning the constructors' championship:
"It's an incredible
emotion and I want to share it with the team and thank them for the incredible
work, even with six races to go, it's unbelievable.
"That
is thanks to the great work that has happened at McLaren. It's teamwork and
it's great that teamwork is rewarded like this."
On the 2026
regulation changes:
"We are definitely working very hard to continue this
streak of wins into the future with these big changes of technical regulations."
'Clearly just hard racing'
published at 16:01 BST 5 October 2025
McLaren boss Zak Brown spoke to Sky Sports about the racing incident between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in turn two:
"Like all race weekends, you review everything. First corner, looks like Max and Lando either touched or had to check up. But it was an exciting Turn Two incident, so racing, tough racing, you got three or four cars stacked up, so that's going to happen every once in a while. So, we will look at it in more depth on Monday, but clearly just hard racing."
'We will build and come out stronger' - Stella
published at 15:57 BST 5 October 2025
On the incident between McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, team principal Andrea Stella spoke to Sky Sports:
"The two drivers were already in condition to race and pursue their aspirations so we will stay and continue with this approach.
"Every race we learn a little bit and fine tune, but it's a matter of details. We will continue with what is the pursuit of the drivers' championship."
On how to manage things moving forwards with Piastri:
"First of all we have to put everything in perspective, it's the comments from a driver in a Formula 1 car, there is the heat of the moment.
"The information that is available is just from his point of view and it was Lando moving onto him.
"So as usual we will have good conversations and we will build from there and come out stronger.
"This has been the whole process building together a strong team which the drivers are a great foundation of that."

Lando Norris slid into oscar Piastri in passing him at the first corner at the start of the race, leading the Australian to claim it was "not fair" the team did not ask them to reverse positions.
Norris was caught out by Max Verstappen slowing more than he expected in the middle of Turn Three.
Norris touched the Red Bull, damaging the McLaren's front wing endplate, and that bounced him side-on into Piastri, whose momentum was checked, allowing Norris to move ahead into third place.

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are keeping things professional in their post-race interviews but will this incident in Singapore sour the title celebrations tonight? The United States Grand Prix is next up from 17-19 October, so there is a chance for the two drivers to regroup and reflect on that early contact, which has become the weekend's big talking point.

McLaren 'have to put everything in perspective' - Stella
published at 15:46 BST 5 October 2025
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella spoke to Sky Sports about Oscar Piastri losing his cool after the incident with Lando Norris:
"First of all, we have to put everything in perspective - these are comments from a driver in an F1 car - heat of the moment, the information, it's just his point of view of Lando moving on to him.
"So as usual, we will have good conversations, we'll build from there and come up stronger. This has been the whole process for building together a strong team which the drivers are a great foundational part."
'I don't think there was any intention of contact ' - Piastri

McLaren's Oscar Piastri, who finished in fourth, speaking to Sky Sports:
"Obviously it was a difficult race and first lap but I've not seen the replay... so I will go and have a look.
"It is a great night for the whole team, but just not the race I was looking for. Tonight is a combination of a lot of hard work, not just this year but lots of years, so it's a really proud moment for me to be a part of that."
On if McLaren raced clean:
"Yes I think we do, I don't think there was any intention of contact but there was and I need to look at the replay and look at exactly what happened."
On there being new rules at the team:
"I don't know, I've not seen the incident. I need to look at that first before I say any comments."
On the championship and mentally resetting:
"I think just take the learnings from this weekend and see what can be improved.
"The weekend as a whole was very good and practice and qualifying went well. The race was maybe a little bit slow to get going but I feel like the pace for the rest of the race was good."

'Pace was very strong today' - Norris

McLaren’s
Lando Norris, who finishes third after starting in fifth:
"It was a tough race, Max [Verstappen] didn't make any mistakes.
"Whether I was feeling good or not I gave it my all today. I got close and a few chances where we were side-by-side and some little bits were happening.
"Like I said it was too difficult to overtake which is a shame because the pace was very strong today.
"I would have loved to have tried to catch George [Russell] and given him more pressure. I'm happy with today, I got forward two positions and we won as a team the constructors' championship once again, so I'm most happy about that."
On the lap one overtake:
"It was slippery and also wet in a lot of places but it's racing and I put it on the inside, I had a small correction but nothing more than that.
"It was good racing and I wish I could have driven a little bit more, I wish that there were a few more overtaking opportunities today, but I feel like I did everything I could and I'm happy with that."
'I think for us second was then the maximum result'
published at 15:22 BST 5 October 2025

Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who finishes second in Singapore:
"The track only got dry, and starting on the dirty side of the grid, we opted to try something different because normally if you pass turn one, you just stay there without anything crazy.
"So, we tried and it didn't really work out, and then obviously the first stint was just about surviving on the tyres and to make it long enough to then pit for the hard tyres. I think that worked out, but unfortunately, the whole race was quite difficult, more difficult than I hoped for, for a lot of different reasons, let's say that. So, a few things we need to understand and why these things went wrong today.
"But even then, around here, even if you have more pace, you can't pass without anything crazy happening. I think for us second was then the maximum result."
'It feels amazing' - Russell

Mercedes’ George
Russell, who wins the Singapore Grand Prix from pole position:
"It feels amazing especially after what happened a
couple of years ago, that was a bit of a missed opportunity but we more than made up for it today.
"I'm so grateful for the team, they did an amazing job this whole weekend. We don't really know where this performance came from but I'm really happy."
On the whole weekend:
"Friday was a really tough day for me for many different reasons and I wasn't feel comfortable, but by the time Q3 came I felt really comfortable in the car and that is when it matters.
"I was a bit nervous at the beginning when I saw Max [Verstappen] on the soft [tyre], but that first stint was great from us and extended the gap."
On the car's performance:
"I mean I said it yesterday, if I were going to make a list of all the races I think we would be good at this year, Singapore would probably be right at the bottom.
"I think we need to sit down on Monday and Tuesday to sort of understand why the performance was so good. I hope we can carry this through to the rest of the season but I think realistically Lando [Norris] looked incredibly fast.
"He was within a second from Max the whole race and around this circuit that is not easy, so we will take the performance from today, celebrate it and won't think too much about Austin yet."
'It's pretty awesome to go back-to-back'
published at 15:12 BST 5 October 2025

McLaren boss Zak Brown, speaking to Sky Sports after the team clinched the constructor's championship:
"Unbelievable team here, unbelievable team back at the factory, all the men and women have done such an awesome job. The leadership Andrea has provided to this whole team, our owners, shareholders, it's pretty awesome to go back-to-back, and it's been a while since we have done it.
Brown also spoke about the brilliance of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris this season:
"They have driven brilliantly all season; you can't win the constructors' without two awesome racing drivers. As you can see, we are letting them race; that was a bit more of a nail-biter there. They race hard, they race clean, and they race to win. A lot of racing to go and hopefully some more victories for both of them."
Champagne moment
published at 15:08 BST 5 October 2025
George Russell, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris have reached the cooldown room and are chugging water like they've just done a 62-lap race in unbearable heat. The highlights are playing on the big screen, and three "oooh" and "ahhh" as the main talking points are shown.
"How close to Oscar?" Russell asks Norris. Just as the McLaren driver is about to answer, the camera cuts away. Thanks.
It's time for podium celebrations. Russell beams as his team, plus his partner Carmen, watch on below. Let's soak each other in champagne, shall we?

5. ### Keeping cool published at 16:14 BST 5 October 2025 16:14 BST 5 October 2025

**Four-time world champion Max Verstappen spoke to Sky Sports about the issues he faced today in the car:**
**Verstappen also spoke about whether he feels he is still in the championship race:**
"For that, you need to win, you need to dominate. We are not doing that, at least we are not going that this weekend. We are not catching up enough. For that, you had to win today. We already lost way too many points in the beginning of the season, but we just try to see it race by race, we do the best we can."

**McLaren boss Zak Brown spoke to Sky Sports about the racing incident between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in turn two:**

**On the incident between McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, team principal Andrea Stella spoke to Sky Sports:** "The two drivers were already in condition to race and pursue their aspirations so we will stay and continue with this approach.
"Every race we learn a little bit and fine tune, but it's a matter of details. We will continue with what is the pursuit of the drivers' championship."
**On how to manage things moving forwards with Piastri:** "First of all we have to put everything in perspective, it's the comments from a driver in a Formula 1 car, there is the heat of the moment.
"The information that is available is just from his point of view and it was Lando moving onto him.
"So as usual we will have good conversations and we will build from there and come out stronger.
"This has been the whole process building together a strong team which the drivers are a great foundation of that."

10. ### What happened between Piastri and Norris? published at 15:53 BST 5 October 2025 15:53 BST 5 October 2025
**[Andrew Benson](http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/correspondents/andrewbenson)**

**McLaren's Oscar Piastri, who finished in fourth, speaking to Sky Sports:** "Obviously it was a difficult race and first lap but I've not seen the replay... so I will go and have a look.
"It is a great night for the whole team, but just not the race I was looking for. Tonight is a combination of a lot of hard work, not just this year but lots of years, so it's a really proud moment for me to be a part of that."
**On if McLaren raced clean:** "Yes I think we do, I don't think there was any intention of contact but there was and I need to look at the replay and look at exactly what happened."
**On there being new rules at the team:** "I don't know, I've not seen the incident. I need to look at that first before I say any comments."
**On the championship and mentally resetting:** "I think just take the learnings from this weekend and see what can be improved.
"The weekend as a whole was very good and practice and qualifying went well. The race was maybe a little bit slow to get going but I feel like the pace for the rest of the race was good."

**McLaren’s Lando Norris, who finishes third after starting in fifth:** "It was a tough race, Max \[Verstappen\] didn't make any mistakes.
"Whether I was feeling good or not I gave it my all today. I got close and a few chances where we were side-by-side and some little bits were happening.
"Like I said it was too difficult to overtake which is a shame because the pace was very strong today.
"I would have loved to have tried to catch George \[Russell\] and given him more pressure. I'm happy with today, I got forward two positions and we won as a team the constructors' championship once again, so I'm most happy about that."
**On the lap one overtake:** "It was slippery and also wet in a lot of places but it's racing and I put it on the inside, I had a small correction but nothing more than that.
"It was good racing and I wish I could have driven a little bit more, I wish that there were a few more overtaking opportunities today, but I feel like I did everything I could and I'm happy with that."

**Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who finishes second in Singapore:** "The track only got dry, and starting on the dirty side of the grid, we opted to try something different because normally if you pass turn one, you just stay there without anything crazy.

**Mercedes’ George Russell, who wins the Singapore Grand Prix from pole position:** "It feels amazing especially after what happened a couple of years ago, that was a bit of a missed opportunity but we more than made up for it today.
"I'm so grateful for the team, they did an amazing job this whole weekend. We don't really know where this performance came from but I'm really happy."
**On the whole weekend:** "Friday was a really tough day for me for many different reasons and I wasn't feel comfortable, but by the time Q3 came I felt really comfortable in the car and that is when it matters.
"I was a bit nervous at the beginning when I saw Max \[Verstappen\] on the soft \[tyre\], but that first stint was great from us and extended the gap."
**On the car's performance:** "I mean I said it yesterday, if I were going to make a list of all the races I think we would be good at this year, Singapore would probably be right at the bottom.
"I think we need to sit down on Monday and Tuesday to sort of understand why the performance was so good. I hope we can carry this through to the rest of the season but I think realistically Lando \[Norris\] looked incredibly fast.
"He was within a second from Max the whole race and around this circuit that is not easy, so we will take the performance from today, celebrate it and won't think too much about Austin yet."

**McLaren boss Zak Brown, speaking to Sky Sports after the team clinched the constructor's championship:** "Unbelievable team here, unbelievable team back at the factory, all the men and women have done such an awesome job. The leadership Andrea has provided to this whole team, our owners, shareholders, it's pretty awesome to go back-to-back, and it's been a while since we have done it.
**Brown also spoke about the brilliance of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris this season:** "They have driven brilliantly all season; you can't win the constructors' without two awesome racing drivers. As you can see, we are letting them race; that was a bit more of a nail-biter there. They race hard, they race clean, and they race to win. A lot of racing to go and hopefully some more victories for both of them."

**Tensions between title rivals Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri reached a new high as their McLaren team clinched the constructors' championship at the Singapore Grand Prix.**

The title celebrations have started for McLaren after they secured back-to-back constructors' titles in Singapore, but the main focus will be on how they manage the intra-team battle between championship leader Oscar Piastri and second-placed Lando Norris.
Sunday's 52-lap race at the Circuit of The Americasis at **20:00 BST.**

3. ### Five-second time penalty for Hamiltonpublished at 16:23 BST 5 October 2025
4. ### 'I would say this was probably my most dominant weekend'published at 16:18 BST 5 October 2025
**Mercedes driver George Russell spoke to Sky Sports after a dominant win in Singapore:**
**The Mercedes driver also spoke about finishing higher than Ferrari:**
"We have consistently been doing a better job than Ferrari. Kimi obviously had a tough run of form, but he has found his way, and he's been exceptionally quick this weekend. And it didn't really work out for him in qualifying, but he was almost leading the way on Friday.
**Russell also spoke about whether this was his favourite win:**
"Vegas was a pretty cool, to be honest. But I would say this was probably my most dominant weekend, all in all, and because it was so unexpected."
5. ### Keeping coolpublished at 16:14 BST 5 October 2025

6. ### 'We already lost way too many points in the beginning of the season'published at 16:10 BST 5 October 2025
**Four-time world champion Max Verstappen spoke to Sky Sports about the issues he faced today in the car:**
7. ### 'It's great that teamwork is rewarded like this' - Stellapublished at 16:04 BST 5 October 2025
**McLaren team principal Andrea Stella on winning the constructors' championship:** "It's an incredible emotion and I want to share it with the team and thank them for the incredible work, even with six races to go, it's unbelievable.
"That is thanks to the great work that has happened at McLaren. It's teamwork and it's great that teamwork is rewarded like this."
**On the 2026 regulation changes:** "We are definitely working very hard to continue this streak of wins into the future with these big changes of technical regulations."
8. ### 'Clearly just hard racing'published at 16:01 BST 5 October 2025
**McLaren boss Zak Brown spoke to Sky Sports about the racing incident between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in turn two:**
9. ### 'We will build and come out stronger' - Stellapublished at 15:57 BST 5 October 2025
10. ### What happened between Piastri and Norris?published at 15:53 BST 5 October 2025

11. ### Postpublished at 15:50 BST 5 October 2025

12. ### McLaren 'have to put everything in perspective' - Stellapublished at 15:46 BST 5 October 2025
**McLaren team principal Andrea Stella spoke to Sky Sports about Oscar Piastri losing his cool after the incident with Lando Norris:** "First of all, we have to put everything in perspective - these are comments from a driver in an F1 car - heat of the moment, the information, it's just his point of view of Lando moving on to him.
"So as usual, we will have good conversations, we'll build from there and come up stronger. This has been the whole process for building together a strong team which the drivers are a great foundational part."
13. ### 'I don't think there was any intention of contact ' - Piastripublished at 15:42 BST 5 October 2025

19. ### 'It's pretty awesome to go back-to-back'published at 15:12 BST 5 October 2025
