Beautiful coastline, historical heritage and varied geographical landscapes all appeal to travellers who keep coming back to Portugal for more. Its compact size makes it easy to explore most of the country easily and get to see a lot even in a limited period. It is also more affordable than its European neighbours which will get any backpackers eyes twinkling!
The Algarve is where most roads lead in Portugal; the sea, sun and sand that define this part of Portugal seem irresistible to most travellers. This area has fabulous beach resorts, picturesque villages and is the proud home of some of the best golf courses in the world! But it is not all holiday resorts for families, there are plenty of backpacker accommodation options for independent travellers.
Visit historical sites such as the Fortaleza de Sagres and Cape of Sao Vicente, one of the westerly points in the European continent. Lisbon is the capital of Portugal, stretching proudly along the banks of the Tagus River, and covering seven hills. Visit Baixa, in the heart of Lisbon where you will find some of Lisbonās oldest traditional shops, jazz up a little bit in the Rua do Ouro Street (Gold Street) and shop for clothes in Rua da Prata. Take a trip to the picturesque town of Obidos and explore its quaint cafes, whitewashed villages and magnificent medieval castle.
